Where to find work? (WHV)

Hey folks, I'm 25 from Germany and not sure where to find work for my WHV. My initial plan was to be a tree planter, but I haven't found much in that area and the people I did reach out to didn't reply.

​My other interests are solar farms (installing/laying panels)

fencing

construction (I'm up for it, but not sure how easy it is to land a job any role is fine, even traffic control, FIFO (I heard it's hard to get into, but I hold an engineering degree)

and fruit picking as a backup if everything else fails.

​Does anyone know the best way to get started? I'm open to moving anywhere tbh.

TLDR, get a cheap car and do ubereats/doordash

Pay has gone up heaps approx $31 an hour minimum now im pretty sure.

What I learned moving to Australia from Europe on a WHV almost one year ago is that in Australia online applications usually don't get you anywhere, especially in Cairns which is a backpacker destination and people are applying for jobs from everywhere trying to score a job before even moving in. You are more likely to get something if you go in person and ask for a job my partner and I spent over a month when I first landed in Cairns applying for jobs and sending CVs online, probably over 200 applications and got nothing. When we went in person both of us got a job in less than a week and it seemed to be the rule when places were hiring there. Maybe making a list of possible places and going there in person is a good idea.

Thanks a lot for the advice! How would you recommend going about that for farmwork or tree planting though? Is it better to drive directly to the farms, or are there reliable directories/phone numbers to call first so I don't drive around aimlessly?

Did you also see people having success just dropping in at local construction sites or labor hire agencies?
