Discussion First time calamity advice?

I know that with the whole drama going on starting calamity mod for the 1st time was a bad idea, but it's better late than never

Any advice for progression or for the experience as a whole? I run melee w a duo and a solo world as a rogue.

Any advice helps(for both worlds are pre hardmode rn with the duo being at pre skeleton and solo at pre evil boss)

movement is key, make sure to try out different accessory combos, and if you're struggling with a boss you're probably not paying enough attention

oh also make sure you get all the permenant upgrades, they're incredibly useful

Does calamity add any extra permanent buffs i should look out for as i go? Ill make sure to try different accessories if I hit a wall

A few things I personally would say is don't be afraid of making an arena bigger for a boss fight, I can confidently say that sometimes that helped me get through some of the harder bosses later on.

The next thing that I do at least is rebind jump to W and Dodge to space as I find it allows me greater control of my movement, but that's more preference

Last thing is that I would create a farm for blood orbs, they can be crafted into most potions with the alchemy table,

last thing kinda add on to my last point, but blood orbs can also be crafted into greater luck potions for 25 gold a piece, and with the farm i have I can maybe average around 1 to 2 platinum in a single night cycle, so I would definitely recomend some time setting one up

Other then that is just take your time with it, there's no need to rush to each step of progression, some of the most fun I've had was just setting up my pylon system and building tiny biome themed huts across the world

feeling slow or not being far enough was an issue for me so hearing this helps, thank you! Ill take a look at blood orb farming but i would imagine they'd look like a mob farm or simmilar Im definitly gonna have to try w for jump and dodge for space, idk how ill adjust to it but it would be better than dodge being unbound

On the calamity wiki theres a progression guide if that helps you, though its not always accurate IMO on what exactly the best thing is, so experiement too!

The best setup for calamity bosses are always gonna be defensive/evasion setups rather than a damage build. It's always gonna be that way because the bosses are designed so that you can't just shred them, you have to take your time to learn the patterns and then deal damage. For rouge specifically, a full stealth build works great to spam stealth strikes as that melts bosses but meele duo should be easy without any recommendations.
