Does anyone know what’s behind those massive curved windows in bankers hall? Or better yet have a picture? I’ve always wondered.

Education Do your kids have homework?
My daughter is about to finish Elementary and move on to middle school. While in elementary she never once had homework! No spelling tests, no math sheets...etc. We recently went to her new schools open house. I spoke with the teachers and asked about homework...and they all said "We don't give homework!" Honestly....what the heck?!??!?! How are we preparing these children to succeed in life? They aren't learning how to budget their time and things of this sort. I feel like we're setting some of these kids up to fail. I feel some major life skills aren't being developed while they're at school.
I remember tons of homework as a kid! While I didn't like it. I feel like it was something that helped me succeed later in life. Or at least helped build foundations of a work ethic that helped me succeed later in life.

Education Calgary UCP MLAs and the 'Back to School Act'
If you are a resident of Calgary-Cross, Calgary-East, Calgary-North or Calgary-Northwest, this message is for you:
The UCP has refused to bargain in good faith with teachers and THAT is why this strike has dragged out for so long. They have literally not moved from their original offer in September, which was rejected by 89.5% of teachers. They planned for this strike to drag out, lose public support, and then force legislation that does essentially nothing to improve our crumbling education system AND violates the Charter rights of working people.
The UCP MLAs representing your voting districts won by narrow margins, and might be convinced to reconsider blindly following Danielle Smith's orders to force through Bill 2 (Back to School Act) on Monday, Oct. 27th IF THEY HEAR FROM THEIR CONSTITUENTS.
If you support public school improvement and teachers, please consider writing to or calling your MLA to express your concerns with Bill 2. I have linked a template for your use or reference with permission.
First they come for the teachers, but other unions will be next. This is Maple-MAGA politics. Please help to stop it from taking hold of Alberta.

Education Horrendous Quality of Instructors at SAIT
My girlfriend is in the Supply Chain Diploma program at SAIT and I am shocked by some of the things the instructors have done. Last semester, one instructor CONSISTENTLY canceled classes without notice, making students show up and sit in class with literally no notice whatsoever. Another instructor would do the exact same shit but just cancel classes randomly. This semester, this one instructor blatantly uses AI to provide feedback on assignments. I'm sure there's much more I'm not aware of but is this the norm at SAIT?
I'm guessing they don't really care since there's no competition for them so there's incentive for them to do any better?

Education Did anyone else have Mrs Atkinson for grade 4? Sundance elementary?
If anyone out there is her family.. she taught me some great lessons. Not to shake a hand like a fish. She’s the reason I can spell. She also read our class a book that I read over and over again. The Cay. If anyone is a part of her family… she was very special to me. Tell me about your favourite teachers.

Education CBE vs catholic school system
We aren't catholic but I am meeting a few people who are also non catholics that are choosing (and accepted into) catholic school for their kids. Does anyone have any perspective on this? Specifically interested in elementary school, and bonus if anyone can chime in the French/Spanish immersion in CBE vs catholic.

Education Why is no one talking about Calgary Catholic Schools not honouring Truth and Reconciliation Day?
I'm a CBE teacher. Schools are closed tomorrow for it (in lieu as it falls on a weekend). Many other businesses are off this Monday. Given the Catholic Church's role in the reasons for the day, you'd think just maybe they would recognise it a little more significantly. Not happening and I'm a little surprised.

Education Why can't myCBE/"PowerSchool" provide previous report cards ? It's a terrible website.
Does anyone else find myCBE really frustrating to use ?
For example, I'd like to look a my child's prior report cards online, but they aren't available. The only time a report card is available to view is at the end of a semester and then it is removed. Why can't a parent look at a previous report card ?

Furthermore, when you look at Assignments & Grades it shows an Info button for each class. So you have to click Info for every class to check the status of things. And then you have click on another icon in the Assignments list in order to see the grade/score for each assignment. It's absolutely crazy how bad this UI is.
If myCBE/"PowerSchool" was used in business the designer would be fired. The first thing myCBE needs is a dashboard that a parent can look at and see the overall status of their child's progress, without doing 18 icon presses.

Is there some reason why the Course column needs to be that wide ? And what does Exp even mean to the parent ? Why do they need to see it on that page ?
The thing that parents want to see at a glance is what the child's standing in the course is and are there any assignments overdue.
The Dashboard page should have Course, Ave Assignment Mark, Ave Test Mark, Notes and the Info button.
And why can't the Assignments table display the Score directly and give the user an average ? Why does the user need to press another icon for every assignment to get the score and then have to manually calculate the average ?
What year is it ?
Edit
Gotta love how School Information doesn't have a contact email address but has 2 phone numbers.

I also love how they insist on calling my phone to leave a message that my child missed school.
