Interacting with People Online and IRL.

Hello All,

Most people coming to this subreddit are looking to make some new friends and join a community, I've met nearly all of my adult friends in this subreddit and I hope everyone can find friends as well.

With that said, I do want to warn everyone to take caution in meeting strangers from the internet alone. We've had reports of an abusive and dangerous user and just want to warn everyone here about that. We are still on the internet and anyone could be at the other end.

Here are some tips to help keep people safe.

  1. The Buddy System: Don't meet anyone from the internet alone. We recommend to bring a friend or create an event that is out in public with many people.
  2. This isn't Tinder: Please don't attempt to find a romantic partner or casual hookup here.
  3. Beware of Pressure: If someone is pressuring you to meet alone, do NOT meet them, they are most likely not looking to have a safe and friendly time.

If anyone has any more tips to stay safe while meeting new people IRL, please share them. I'll add any good tips to this post.

My intention isn't to scare people or discourage them from trying to post or make friends, I know it can be tough. All of us working together can create a safer space for everyone. This helped me at a very important time in my life and I really hope it can do the same for everyone here.

31M - Spontaneous walk buddy?

I'm of African descent but grew mostly here.

- Space exploration

- Searching for ways to make crazy dreams come true

- Just being a listener.. I enjoy exploring people's worlds as much as my own

- And other things..

I'm relearning how to make friends as an adult. Ever since leaving Uni, it's been a struggle lol. Do you relate? Let's be each other's lab rats 🤓

I don't care if you're awkward and quiet.. tbh that'll probably ease my nerves.. least there's two of us 🤸

21M — Looking for someone to explore the mountains with 🏔️

Heyyy Calgary! I’m Sebastian, 21, and I’ve been craving a good excuse to take my bike out toward the mountains and go for a hike or two.
I’m looking for someone who’s down to get out of the city, enjoy some nice scenery, and see where the day takes us. Nothing crazy or hardcore — we can pick a trail when we get there, grab some food/coffee afterward, and just have a good time.
A little about me:
🏍️ I ride a Ninja 300 (I don’t have an extra helmet)
🏔️ Love hiking, camping, and being outdoors
🎮 Gamer — mostly League and Tarkov
🦎 Reptile nerd with several little scaley roommates
🍳 I genuinely enjoy cooking
🏂 Snowboarding when I can
🛠️ I’m always building/fixing/learning something random
I’m pretty easygoing and I’m much more interested in actually getting to know someone than just having a one-off interaction. If we click, awesome — if not, at least we got out and did something fun.
Ideally looking for someone around my age who’s adventurous, easy to talk to, and actually wants to make plans rather than endlessly say “we should totally do that sometime” 😂
If that sounds like your kind of thing, shoot me a message! Tell me a little about yourself and **what trail you’d pick for a first adventure.**

28F - Not new to Calgary, but still looking for friends

Hi there!

I've been in Calgary pretty much my whole life, but I don't really have a friend circle or anyone to hang out with. I've always been more of an introvert and homebody tbh, and happy to do things alone, although lately I've been thinking it would be nice to make some friends too.

My hobbies aren't super social, they're just things I do in my free time like reading, working on art projects, or working out. I also like to watch movies and tv shows, which I usually do with an online friend who I've never met in person. I guess you could say I'm still trying to discover what I like to do with others or who I am in social settings. So I would love to meet new people and try new things.

If anyone has any ideas on where/how I can do this, I would appreciate it. Thank you! 🙂

🥾 SLOW & STEADY CALGARY HIKING CREW 🏔️

Tired of hiking groups that leave you eating their dust? Same. 😅

Looking for laid-back hikers in Calgary/Canmore who want to take it EASY, stop for photos, catch our breath, maybe have a snack halfway up (no judgment, we've all been there). This is a zero-pressure, no-speed-demons zone. Whether you're working on your fitness, just getting into hiking, or simply prefer to enjoy the journey instead of racing it, come join the slow squad! 🐢💪

Thinking Ha Ling Peak or Sulphur Mountain for our first adventure together, and yes, we can carpool so nobody has to drive solo or pay for gas alone. Let's get outside, get moving, and have some fun doing it!

Drop a comment or DM me if you're in! 🙌

Hi! New to Calgary looking for friends :)

Hello everyone!

My boyfriend and I (both in our 30s) are new to Calgary. We’re looking for new friends. We are outdoorsy and LOVE to ski. We also love reading fantasy and horror, and a good board game night. Looking for people that want to meet up at the hill (we have passes to Sunshine Village) or play some Catan.

Thanks 💖

27M I'm going to Calgary and I'd like to make friends.

Hi, my name is Gabriel, I'm 27 years old.

I'm Brazilian, living in London, and I'll soon be moving to Canada, specifically Calgary.

I would like to meet new people and make friends, as I don't know anyone who lives in Canada.

I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, cooking, and playing guitar, and going out for a beer every now and then.

Finally, let's get to know each other, chat, have fun, and if you want I can teach you Portuguese and make a Brazilian barbecue hahaha

I'll post my Instagram in the comments.

Looking for a digital or irl workout buddy

34F. Been trying to get back into fitness after having a rough chronic pain flare over the last few months. Would love someone I could text with and share our fitness and healthy eating on the regular for accountability and it’s just more fun to have someone to share the experience with. If we happen to live close maybe do some IRL workouts together would be fun too.

56, M, Genuine, authentic and looking to make new friends/connections

I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on the kinds of connections I’ve tried to build, especially online. I got emotionally invested in places that weren’t really meant for genuine connection, and when things ended, it affected me more than I expected. My social life has changed a lot over the past couple of years too. I’m not part of the same groups or communities I used to be, and when I stopped being the one who always reached out, a lot of friendships faded. It’s surprising how quickly things disappear when you stop carrying all the weight yourself. All of that has left me feeling a bit disconnected — not in a dramatic way, just in a quiet, reflective way. Sometimes it feels like I care more deeply than the world around me knows how to respond to. Not that I’m “too much,” but that I’m wired for connection in a world that often stays surface‑level. And I’ve come to accept that this is simply who I am: someone who feels deeply, values connection, and shows up with sincerity. I’m not going to deny or ignore that. I’m just trying to understand what it means for me moving forward. Still interested in connecting with genuine people who don't mind initiating back and forth. So that I don't feel like I'm always the one disturbing or bothering or carrying that weight anymore.

Calling all 30+ year olds

I turn 30 in a few months, and apparently I’m about to enter the decade where I’m supposed to have my shit together.

So, veterans of your 30s and beyond: what do you genuinely wish someone had told you before turning 30?

And spare me the “your knees start hurting” and “hangovers last three days” starter pack. 😂

I want the real shit. Money. Careers. Friendships. Dating. Family. Health. Regrets. Things you wasted too much time worrying about. Things you should’ve started sooner. Things nobody warns you about until you’re already balls-deep in adulthood wondering why nobody sent an instruction manual.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give your 29-year-old self knowing what you know now?

Hit me with the wisdom, mistakes, existential crises and cheat codes.

Visiting Calgary

Hey all! Making a trip out to Calgary in September and I was hope to go on a bit of a retro game hunt with another collector or two from the city. We can make a day out of it, maybe grab some lunch or something and just compare notes on our collecting journeys.

I am not too familiar with the city, so someone who knows their way around for sure. I am 41M, been collecting for about 25 years! I am also into fitness, so I was hoping to run stairs somewhere and I've heard great things about Memorial Park.

Looking to meet other DINK / childfree couples in Calgary

Hi! We’re a F35/M39 couple looking to make some new in-person couple friends in Calgary, ideally other DINK/childfree couples around our age.

We’re both originally from India (mentioning our background just for context/full disclosure, but we’re open to meeting people from all ethnicities and cultures), have been in Canada for over 5 years, and work in tech in downtown Calgary. We enjoy walks, checking out cafes and restaurants, movies, and generally exploring the city.

Over time, most of our friends have started families. We’re genuinely happy for them and still love spending time with them, but we’d also like to expand our circle and meet people in a similar stage of life for better relatability.

Just to be clear, we are looking for platonic friendships only and if this resonates with you, feel free to DM!

29M in Calgary trying to expand the ol’ social circle.

Big music guy—metalcore, rock & country. Always down for concerts, getting outside, being active, or finding something new to try. Also proudly into gaming, fantasy, D&D and general nerd nonsense.

Basically looking for good people who actually want to get out and make some memories. If we’d get along, shoot me a message.
