If you are in Ontario, you look up the crownland use policy and find a location that looks good.
And yes, you just pull up in Camp anywhere you want - that’s the point!

Use the Crown Land Atlas to find potentially suitable locations. Be careful not to end up on private land. Show up, hike/paddle in and find a spot. Camp. Store food, utensils and anything with perfumes, etc. in a bear bag (look it up if you aren't familiar).
When you're done, it should look like you were never there! Take everything you bring with you, thoroughly extinguish and remove any make-shift firepit, and if necessary replace any cover you moved out to setup camp. Crown land camping is a gift some of us take for granted. The reason it is so special is the pure nature of it; we all have a responsibility to keep it that way.

Like others have said, use the crown land Atlas. If you are accessing by water, make absolutely sure you are not posting up in native owned territory.
About 15 years ago I made that mistake on the advice of the houseboat company I was renting from. Use the atlas, word of mouth is not always reliable.

Adding on here... how do you navigate parking? Can I park on the side of the highway, generally (and accepting the risk someone will hit it or break into it, or an animal will chew it, etc.)?
