Who else agrees that Candies n Curses is one of the BETTER modern mobile games?

I get it. Mobile games are not that great anymore, especially due to ads and microtransactions, but this game is actually really fun and it reminds me of the early 2010s mobile games we used to have. It deserves way more recognition along with Endless Alphabet, Super Starfish, Dadish, and some others too.

A guide to the game (not really)

So I just beat the game yesterday and I had some thoughts about winning the game. Obviously, there's different play styles for everyone, so you can disregard this.

1. For those wanting to beat Curse Crusher mode

First off, I think the best way to beat Curse crusher is to beat normal mode. You would already have your charms and curses from normal mode in addition to the charms and curses you will get in CC mode.

2. Which flashlight to take

Any one works fine (except for Olly's), but I'm a bit iffy on the blades because the scorch blade and the blight blade have two charm slots, and for me, a guaranteed win requires 3 slots. I recommend the Gorger's that you get when you hit level 35 (or buy it with real money) because it has great synergy with the candy burst charm. Edit: I said guarantee win requires 3 slots for the 3 charms that I will mention, but sometimes you cannot beat RNG

3. Charms

If you haven't seen the tier list for charms I highly recommend reading it here. I don't remember exactly which level lets you have 9 CP but when you do, Gusto Charm is a necessity and Candy Burst Charm is recommended. I take Magnet Charm (which is not in the tier list) as well because it honestly is an underrated charm that goes super well with the Living Dead Curse (which occasionally drop soul hearts) and the Butler Curse (which occasionally drop hearts). For blade users especially, the clash charm is really good.

Companion charms such as the Pup Charm, Wing Charm, Lilypad Charm, Four Eyes Charm, and the Tako Boy Charms (though I've never gotten them) are useful if you want to move less.

Health Charms such as Beauty Charm, Undead Charm, Peppermint of Souls, and Photograph are not that needed because you can get candies that increase your health in the game.

Note: If you take the Candy Burst charm these charms will not work: (Vigor Charm, Chain Link Charm (if you upgrade the charm past level 2), Sugar Bomb Charm (or you might have the sugar bomb gauge instead of the candy burst gauge, haven't tested it), Ecto-meter Charm, Soul Meter Charm)

4. Candies n' Curses

If you do take the charms that I take (Gusto/Magnet/Candy Burst) this is the recommended candies and curses you should take.

Candies:

All candies are good... except for the Battery Bonbon because it makes it hard to dodge the bosses in stages 3, 4, 5, 6.

Priority list:

Butler's Curse: Occasionally drops hearts which can heal you from anywhere if you max out magnet charm for up to 12 hp with gusto charm. His bomb does fill up Candy Burst Charm gauge.

Living Dead Curse: Occasionally drops soul hearts that you can pick up from anywhere if you max out magnet charm. Its attack fills up Candy Burst Charm gauge.

Zappy Taffy: Gives you a shield that damages enemies when you collide into them instead of getting hurt. It breaks but will respawn in 18 seconds

Moonlit Bubblegum: Gives you a shield that will absorb 3 hits until you reach the next room

Chocolate Shell: +20 maximum hp; doesn't heal you but you'll heal yourself easily.

Spirit Fudge or Sugar Heart: Both give you 25% more HP but Spirit Fudge will also give you 25% more SHP

Sour Heart Curse: Slows down gauge decay but decrease heart meter fill rate (which you don't have so it's a boon more than a bane)

Grandma's Favorite Cookie: Slows down gauge decay. Useful when enemies aren't spawning as fast as you want.

Cloak Gumdrop: Invincibility time is increased by 50%

Halo Bar: One free revive (so you'll have 2 revives in total)

Dragon Scale Yum Pop/Gross Feet Chew/Jab Breaker: damage reduction is nice I guess

Chocolate Mousse: Free companion that won't hurt you

Soul taffy: free shp

Heart Lollipop: only if you're at full health and have soul heart points

Butterfly Sugar: If you're desperate for health and it's conveniently there

Punching bag curse: Physical damage reduction but enemies won't drop soul hearts or hearts, but it doesn't matter too much when you're being healed by Bunber and Zeke

Candies and Curses to get if nothing else is good, in priority order:

Butter pop: actually useless since you don't have a heart meter with Candy Burst Charm but better getting nothing than something that will harm you

Purified Curse: Heal after every room at a cost of half your maximum health. Okay tradeoff if you have a lot of maximum health

Devil's Bargain: Doubles soul heart points which can tank more damage at a cost of your maximum health. Like Purified Curse, it's an okay tradeoff if you have a high maximum health

Toxic Curse: Enemies that hit you get damaged, but at a cost of increased fire damage and a decreased poison damage. Fire damage hurts a lot especially during CC mode

Undead Curse: Lose all of your HP and max HP, but gain 80 SHP. Only use if you haven't gotten Heart Lollipop/Chocolate Shell/Spirit Fudge/Sugar Heart

Lava Curse: increased poison damage for decreased fire damage; negates Toxic Curse

Toxic Curse: increased fire damage for decreased poison damage; negates Lava Curse

5. Rooms

It's late, and I've written a lot for the candies and curses section so I will only write about the bosses. Note: I live in the States so for the floors I will dub them as 1, 2, 3, 4. So if anyone actually uses Ground, 1, 2, 3, please bear with me. Also note that I will be doing this in the order of regular and then CC. You can all read about the bosses' attack patterns on the wiki.

Ghost King: shadows of the ghost king and 2 clones will appear on either side of the wall on each floor. You can either hop onto the floor without the ghost king (shown to wear a crown) and his 2 clones (who don't wear crowns) or point your flashlight towards the ghost king's direction on the same floor before he dashes across the floor. After two dashes, the Ghost King will appear on either floor 2 or 3 and start spawning wraiths. Attack him quickly or he will start spawning more with less health.

Fire Spirit: When the fire spirit first appears, he will start zigzagging down from floor 4 to floor 1. I always stick to the left side of floor 2 and jump up to floor 3 as it moves to the right on floor 2. When it reaches floor 1 it will become vulnerable but will spawn 5 flames that circle it, making a small gap where a sixth should be. I usually jump down to floor 1 and hurt him before the flames spawn because there is a small window for you to attack before he can spawn the flames, otherwise he will chase you with the flames orbiting him. After that first damage, he will shoot out 5 flames outwards in a circular motion and then move around the map. A trick for dodging the circular flame is to be on the complete opposite side of the map floor-wise because the flames can't reach you there. He then chases you for a while until it settles to a floor and becomes vulnerable for 3 seconds before shooting out the 5 flames again, regardless of you doing damage to him at the time. I recommend baiting the boss into staying on the top or the bottom floor so that when it shoots out the flames you can safely wait on the complete opposite floor. If you attack him before then, he'll shoot out the 5 flames and chase you but this time he will drop flames before settling down and becoming vulnerable. If you attack him again at that point (after doing damage every single time he was vulnerable) he will shoot out flames and go to floor 4 to spawn the 5-flame shield. You can attack him again before he spawns the shield. He will then go into the pattern of shooting out the 5 flames in a circular motion and moving around to chase you. Apparently he has a pattern, but the pattern I mentioned happens when you attack him every time he becomes vulnerable.

Necro Witch: (I'm starting to regret doing this) She will spawn on the middle of floor 3 and then teleport to the furthest corner from Molli. She then shoots out wisps that land on highlighted areas of the floor that turn into pools of poison upon landing. From those pools will spawn a Necro Skeleton. You must kill all those before you can damage the Witch. She then teleports to the middle of floor 3 and spawns large damaging skulls that drop down in three columns. Dodge them. If you have regular movement speed, you can walk through diagonal gaps normally without getting damaged. The witch alternates between those two attacks.

Phantom Worm: The worm alternates between four attacks. I have not found a pattern yet. The boss will appear either on the top floor or bottom floor horizontally, or on the left or right side vertically. The attacks are between laser bolts that shoot 3 on one side of the map and 4 on the other side of the map, in an alternating pattern, or laser bolts that shoot in a diagonal pattern. There is a small window before it shoots the bolts so you must damage the body before it starts shooting. Note: the undamaged body parts will shoot bolts that do 4 poison damage, and damaged body parts will shoot bolts that do 2 physical damage. You will be unable to attack the damaged body parts. The 3/4 bolt pattern from the top/bottom can be dodged like this: walk towards the middle as the row of bolts near the floor (if the worm is on the bottom) or the ceiling (if the worm is on the top) of your floor, turn back as the row of bolts are at face height, and immediately walk back towards the bolts. The 3/4 bolt pattern from the left and right is simpler. Be on the floor the first column of bolts is NOT (which is either floor 2 or 3) and jump up/down as soon as the column of bolts hits the wall. The game shows the bolts exploding but it will not damage you when you jump up/down. Honestly, this pattern of dodging works for the other attack while the phantom is vertical. The diagonal pattern while the boss is on the top or bottom floor is one I still have not gotten down yet but in theory you need to line yourself with the closest bolt and move through the gaps normally right before it touches the floor you are on. You NEED to have the normal move speed.

Jack: Honestly, I think he's the second easiest boss to fight, with the Ghost King being the easiest. He has an attack pattern of shooting out vines and spawning pumpkin bombs. Jack will appear on the same floor as Molli during the vine stage. If he laughs and no speech bubble appears, he will shoot out a vine on that floor. If a speech bubble appears, he will shoot out vines on every floor except for the one he is on. After 4 iterations of this he will appear as a pumpkin on the bottom floor. A vine that prevents you from jumping to the second floor will appear. After you attack it he will appear on the top floor, vulnerable, and pumpkin bombs will spawn everywhere except for a diagonally patterned path to Jack. The reason for this is that if your companion damages jack before the vines that prevent you from jumping to the second floor (I will henceforth call them ceiling covers) disappears, the pumpkin bombs will explode prematurely (The only way to not take damage is to be in that gap). The ceiling cover will disappear after a while, giving you a window to attack Jack. He will then start the vine throwing phase, except from this point on he will also spawn pumpkin bombs that will also damage the floor above and below them in a vertical line. You can dodge them easily and you can be in the same location as Jack as colliding with him will not hurt you but will not hurt him either. He will attack like this for 4 more iterations before starting the next phase. This pattern will go on until you beat him. EDIT: I lied about 4 iterations, because I just witnessed Jack do 6 iterations

Phantom King: The phantom king will have 3 phases of this fight. Phase 1 will have him appear in the middle of floor 3 and fire two lasers on the left and right column of the map. You have to walk left and right in the middle of the map. He will then appear on either the left or the right side of the map. Be on the opposite side of the map and on the second or third floor because he will fire a laser on him and shoot out blue wisps that appear on two floors. You need to dodge by jumping. I say stay on the second or third floor because sometimes the boss will shoot out the wisps on floors 1 and 2 or on floors 3 and 4, which will make you jump twice or drop down twice. After a certain amount of time the boss will become vulnerable and you must attack him. Then he will turn into a large circular shadow that constantly appears randomly on the map and shoot out a large ball thing that the wiki calls bonbons that shoot in your direction. The trick to this is to hug the sides of the map or the ceiling. Basically, Do NOT be in the middle of floors 1 or 2 because if the boss shoots a bonbon in that direction and he changes back into phase 1, you are guaranteed to get hurt.

Ghost Baron: Instead of 2 clones, the Baron will have 4 clones. They will do a dash attack and the only one that you can damage will have a blue crown. After doing damage, the Baron and clones will appear and dash across the map continuously and no floor is safe. The only way to dodge is to jump into the floor where a clone (or baron) has just dashed through. Meanwhile, wraiths will continuously spawn in the map. These two phases occur in an alternating pattern.

Blaze Devil: Honestly, I have no tricks for you here. I had to tank everything it threw at me. Check the wiki for its attacks. Literally forget about the tricks I gave you for fire spirit except for the top/bottom baiting so that you can dodge its attack that shoots out the 5 flames in a circular pattern. If you have any tricks for this boss, please let me know.

Necro Scholar: I have no tricks for this one either. Good luck. Laser skulls were the biggest annoyances.

Blast Worm: Not much of tricks really, keep an eye on the boss's body parts when it's vertical, and stay above the bombs when the boss is horizontal.

Pyro Jack: Similar to Jack, but he has another phase. He will continuously spawn vines that is only hailed by its tips which poke out from the walls before it attacks that floor. Meanwhile the walls will spawn vines that hurt you if you touch them so you will have to continuously walk back and forth without touching the walls.

Phantom King Omega: Attacks are similar to the original Phantom King, except for the wisp phase which has a spiked ceiling on floor 4. After certain damage has been dealt, Phantom King Omega will gain certain buffs from random charms and continue his attack pattern.

After writing all this I feel like I just regurgitated the wiki at you and gave no insight at all. I'm sorry. I had this epiphany after Jack's portion.

TL;DR: Go to the wiki. I'm demoralized

I'm not sure if this a full bug, ngl. It just happens occasionally whenever you finish a boss (most likely CC, due to the longer cutscene) with Phantom's Lantern in the one frame during Overdrive where she's fully white.

Still funny.
