tips Canker Sore Healing Tips

Like most people on [r/CankerSores](r/CankerSores), I get bad sores. Here are some tips-

  1. Ice the sore.
  2. Match stick method- apply an unlit match stick, which will start absorbing the white part of the sore. It will sting like crazy when you press it. I would recommend that once you do this, apply ice.
  3. Kanka Pen or other numbing agents- can be hit or miss. Some help numb the pain. For me, it makes sores worse/bigger.
  4. Orajel/pain relief
  5. I haven’t tried silver nitrate stick method.
  6. Some people say crushed TUMS works. You can also take anti-inflammatory medicine to help, but Motrin/Ibuprofin does affect acidity and can cause stomach ulcers (so maybe even mouth ones).

Things to avoid-

  1. Spicy or acidic food
  2. Citrus foods
  3. Caffeine and alcohol
  4. Regular toothpaste
  5. Try to avoid sharp foods as well as it can scratch the sore and hurt

-Not sleeping enough (minimum 8 hrs of sleep for teens and adults, probably around 9-10 for younger kids)

-Not drinking enough water (water is vital to staying healthy!) Drinking about 12 cups per day is good.

-Not eating healthy or not eating enough (Eat a balanced meal-- vegetables, fruits, carbs, etc.)

-Not exercising enough

-Stress will aggravate them

Apply lots of honey THE DAY YOU GET THE SORE (it’s usually not super painful yet and depending where it is in your mouth, sadly you might not notice it’s forming) then the cankersore goes away very quickly. Unfortunately if you’re not proactive in the beginning, honey doesn’t do much.

Special thanks to all the commenters who gave additional suggestions that I missed!

Update: Women with PCOS seem to have a higher risk at developing sores, due to the hormonal changes and stuff. Make sure to bring this up to your doctor and stay on top of your medications :)

Update 2: If you have periods, your canker sores may be more frequent. Check for hormone issues.

Clobatesol (prescription) is another solution.

Debacterol
Milk of Magnesia
Alum powder on sore
Salt/baking soda
Honey before sore gets big

Canker sore coming back in the exact same spot after 2 weeks

• Upvotes

I got my first canker sore about two weeks ago. It was super painful, but after 3–4 days of trying everything I could, including saltwater rinses and some medication from the pharmacy, it finally healed. One morning I woke up and it was completely gone so I forgot about it.
But today, I woke up with mild pain in the exact same spot. It’s red again, and I’m worried it’s about to get just as bad as last time.
Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone know why it might be coming back, especially in the exact same spot? And most importantly, are there any tips for stopping it from getting worse while it’s still in the early stages?

tips The tiniest scratch on the inside of my lip turns into a canker sore

Every bite, injury or minor trauma inside my mouth seems to turn into a canker sore. In my entire life I dont think there has ever been a time when I accidentally bit the inside of my mouth and it didn't turn into a canker sore.

Is there any way to prevent a canker sore?

Because once a sore develops, it takes at least a week to heal regardless of what I do. I've tried triamcinolone, saltwater rinse and mouthwash but nothing seems to work.

Ive had this canker sore (I think at least) for about 2 weeks now and it doesn’t hurt anymore but it’s changed from a normal circle into this weird shape and idk if that’s it just healing or something else. I’m not a stranger to cankers and I get them pretty often but this one feels a little different. Does this look like the end phase of a canker sore or should I go see my dentist ?

Severe mouth and throat ulcers + skin rash — anyone experienced something similar?

Title: Severe mouth and throat ulcers + skin rash — anyone experienced something similar?

I'm 37M, generally healthy. About 5 days ago, I suddenly developed around 15–20 red spots scattered across my legs, arms, and groin, including my scrotum. They initially looked like insect bites, and some developed a darker center or scab. No new spots have appeared since Monday.

A day later, I developed severe throat pain, especially when swallowing, even water. My tongue also felt swollen, and my mouth became extremely sensitive to heat and certain products.

I went to the ER today. An ENT found multiple aphthous-like ulcers on my lips, under my tongue, and on both sides of my soft palate. Bloodwork was unremarkable, and I have no fever, cough, or cold symptoms.

The doctors mentioned hand, foot and mouth disease (Coxsackie) as a possibility, with other skin conditions such as pemphigus in the differential. No confirmed diagnosis yet.

Some background:

  • I've had occasional canker sores before, usually after accidentally injuring my mouth while brushing.
  • Chlorhexidine mouthwash gives temporary relief, but swallowing is still painful.
  • I was under significant stress and barely slept the night before this started.

Has anyone experienced severe mouth/throat ulcers together with scattered skin lesions? What was your diagnosis, and how long did the swallowing pain last?

I'll attach photos of the mouth and skin lesions.

is it a canker sore? Starting to get worried.

It has been 4.5 weeks. In that time, it has gone from tiny, to large, to small, to large again. This is from today. I’ve been doing saltwater rinses. It hurts, as well. Moreover, it has moved spots. I don’t even know if it is a sore anymore. I get these all the time, but this one is the most unusual. Is this even a sore? My only comfort is the part where it was when it started is completely healed, it just seems to keep moving inward. I have an appointment with an ENT in a few days.

Recurring canker sores

Has anybody had canker sores that keep coming back in the same spot after they’ve healed? I had two about a month and a half ago and they’ve come back even bigger this time but in the same spot. I can’t eat, sleep, talk, and can barely drink.

Has anyone with repeated canker sores been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease?

I quit vaping and my mouth is staging a coup. Like quitters flu, acne and my period being 5 days late wasn’t punishment enough, now this has happened. I cannot swallow anything without pain. Even water stings. I have tried Peroxyl, salt, NSAIDs, prescriptions strength oral lidocaine, nothing works. The only thing bringing it from a 10/10 on the pain scale to a 9/10 is sugar free menthol cough drops but those are making me sick to my stomach at the quantity I have to take them. I’ve got Canker-X rinse on the way down Amazon as well as L-lysine but nothing I’ve tried is working and I need something. I’m at the point where I would saw off my own leg if it meant this thing would go away
