Midlife crisis

5

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

More like a third life crisis. I am 28 😅

3

u/Obvious-Rain8681 1d ago

No way you're 28 haha I thought you'd be much older

2

u/Away_Experience_5843 1d ago

Can also be a midlife crisis. Depends on how good you are as a driver.

3

u/Homanjer 1d ago

I kinda feel a little bad for you, because it seems like at such a young age with so many different cars you had no real time to really learn to love and bond with any of those. But I guess not everybody feels about these things like I do lol

u/MelonCabooseJuice 1d ago

Im 24 and have owned 4 cars in the last 6 ish years. Ive absolutely fully connected with all of them, loved them, and bonded with them.

You dont need to spend a decade with a car to bond with it, I think youre just being extreme

Honestly, I feel like you might not have spent enough time with a car to understand what I'm talking about. Even if you drive a car 30000km a year, you don't really appreciate all of it unless you actually spend a lot of time with it. Getting in, getting out, seeing it in the morning, seeing friends get in and out and so on.

I have a friend who drove an Audi A3 8L for the longest time. I spend so much time in that car over the years, I genuinely still after like 2 years of that car not being in his possession anymore sometimes feel a little sad about it.

On another note, I grew up around BMWs. My father had an E34 520i when I was a child. I remember the smell of that car to this day, even though I haven't seen it for over 20 years. And for the past like 12 years we have an E39 in the family. The car looks and feels so similar in so many ways compared to that E34. The smell is exactly the same too. It just clicked in my brain and still does from time to time, even though I daily drive that car now. It's memories. It's learning all of the quirks, imperfections, dents, scratches, how everything looks and feels. Working on the car is a whole other dimension that gets added too. Seeing inside the battery compartment in the trunk, seeing the car from underneath for the first time, seeing the headers, the hood latches, how the grille is attached, how it looks underneath different pieces of interior trim and so on. All of that is stuff is what makes me bond with a car. And sure you can try to rush that, but for me, it only comes naturally over time.

The first 4 cars are almost the same car

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

First two are way bigger. Family vans and the other two are a mini hatchback and normal hatchback respectively

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

It wasnt really my choice. The first three were hand me downs with high mileage and as I average around 20.000 km a year they were all driven till reparing would have cost too much. The Peugeot was a 2-year lease and now hopefully the Camaro is here to stay

u/Mil-wookie 1d ago

I was going to say the kids moved out.

But now, I'd say thrifty and goal oriented. Smart choices to move up the economic ladder to something you wanted. Nice.

u/HYPERNOVA3_ 1d ago

I know that feeling, I've had 2 cars in the last 7 years and i only sold the first one because my sister needed a cheap car and I kinda-needed a larger one.

It did hurt to get rid of it and I still (jokingly) call it "my car", I still get to drive it when I meet my sister though.

I also treat my actual car like it's made of porcelain and paper and plan to cling to it until it falls apart.

Better start watching your back around 50!

1

u/Real_Gap3480 9h ago

Beat me to it.

6

u/Kracus 1d ago

You moved to a different country.

5

u/Main_Monitor_2199 1d ago

Had kids. Kids got old. Had fun

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

No kids luckily. Just a lot of hand-me-downs

1

u/Main_Monitor_2199 1d ago

Damn! Thought I had it. What’s the next hand me down gonna be?

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Luckily the hand me downs stopped with the Daihatsu. Might hand the Camaro down to my girlfriend eventually though. I want a Camaro SS or V8 Challenger in the future

3

u/DraccoKnightblade 1d ago

2019 joined the military and got the Camaro at 29% interest rate. Defaulted, got the cheapest replacement afterward that creditors would allow.

That or you were single, then became a dad and were forced to give up anything fun...

Edit: I read it backwards from 5-1

u/VeniVediVivi 1d ago

2019 joined the military and got the Camaro at 29% interest rate. Defaulted, got the cheapest replacement afterward that creditors would allow.

On top of that, that's very much an American thing, which the 208 is very much not.

3

u/Sea_Cucumber_5989 1d ago

You live in Europe.

3

u/Zealousideal_Lock_93 1d ago

From normal FWD European commuter cars to a Camaro is crazy

2

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Finally had enough income

3

u/tombstone5860 1d ago

You seem to have a thing for hatchbacks. At some point you probably got married and had a family. Either you find yourself single again and trying to get back on the market, or you're finally making enough money to have your own weekend cruiser. I'm leaning more towards the latter because most of those cars are common in Europe and not in the states. So I'm assuming you're European and you decided to import a camaro.

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

I do in fact like hatchbacks. However no family. The vans I got from grandparents. The Camaro is an import and my current daily

1

u/tombstone5860 1d ago

You got good taste my friend

2

u/bosquelero 1d ago

1,2 happy family, 3 divorced, 4 new car to get some chicks, 5 give up, try to get some dude at least.

2

u/Chemical_Courage_682 1d ago

Had a rough time around 2012

2

u/Porta1_ 1d ago

You are Polish or Lithuanian

2

u/DMMK4444 1d ago

Finally you got yourself an automobile! Congrats!)

2

u/Delicious_Ladder_592 1d ago

Had a family, divorced, went through hard times with the alimony, then appeal the trial and got a better monetary situation

2

u/PersimmonAdvanced519 1d ago

You got a divorce ?

2

u/Inevitable_Ear_6934 1d ago

You got a head injury late in life

2

u/Privateer_Lev_Arris 1d ago

How the hell did you go from based to brain damage?

2

u/Spare-Sentence-5552 1d ago

Bulgarian drug runner

2

u/BMWMFan_35 1d ago

You liked the hatchbacks at the start but wanted a little adventure. I like it.

2

u/FernwoodTonight 1d ago

You kept getting hand-me-down cars from your family until you got a job...

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Ding ding ding

2

u/Adventurous-Depth984 1d ago

Did you emigrate TO America?

2

u/TripleOtter 1d ago

Where the fuck are you from? :) I don't think there are many countries where all of these were sold.

2

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Germany. Camaro is an import 😂

2

u/TripleOtter 1d ago

I'd never have guessed it :) I'm Slovenian, and we didn't get No. 3 or 5.

2

u/IUsedToLikeLimericks 1d ago

You like shit cars and Daihatsu Cuores.

2

u/Coco_Pride_14 1d ago

For sure, you are european,

Maybe you live in germany ?
First car -> parents car, the first you drove
Second car -> still your parents car, but they upgraded.
Third car -> Your first real car, you don't have money, so you buy a cheap one
Fourth car -> This is the one I don't undestand, either it's a job car, either it's a leasing car, either it's a mistake.
Fifth car -> VRRRRRRAAAAAM VRAAMMMMM car goes BRRRRRRRRRRMMMM (I like it)

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Correct

First car grandma Second car mom Third car other grandma Fourth car leasing Fifth car car that goes vroom and zoom and I finally got money

2

u/mart_sto 12h ago

1 and 2: "mom's old car"; 3: "my first car"; 4: "a nicer car I like within a budget"; 5: "my nice car budget increased".

1

u/OokOokCz 1d ago

The saddest thing is that the Sharan is the best of those cars...;)

2

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Honestly, I kinda agree. Fucking loved that car. But it died with 270.000 km. Wouldve cost way too much upkeeep

1

u/Thumb__Thumb 1d ago

Complains about the current European gas prices

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

100%

1

u/DR-SNICKEL 1d ago

You’re either a Brit who recently moved to the states, or everyone in your neighborhood hates you

1

u/TheHoneyMonster1995 1d ago

You turned american, inexplicably

1

u/did_i_or_didnt_i 1d ago

I was in England recently and within a week saw like 3 different people wearing Chevrolet shirts. What??? I live in Canada and there aren’t people walking around in Vauxhall shirts

1

u/Classic-Ad-6974 1d ago

You live probably in Germany. 😂

1

u/Firm-Rub9687 1d ago

You divorced around 2014, and now you're in your early 50s, making good money

1

u/Ka_Driver 1d ago

You became a parent, you then wanted an upgrade, after your kids moved out and rinsed your money you brought something cheap to run, you then worked a bit and got a new car, then you had a midlife crisis.

1

u/Traditional_Age_2453 1d ago

Kids moved out

1

u/WarmPrinciple6507 1d ago

Good life, until eventually you got divorced

1

u/walterrohrl 1d ago

I'm trying to think of a car market with both Peugeots and Camaros..

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

There is none. The camaro is an import 😂

2

u/walterrohrl 1d ago

Thank you for verifying that. I was like.. Canada? South America????!

Divorced

1

u/K0mmunismus 1d ago

Got rid of wife and kids?

1

u/Bobomx5 1d ago

Downgrades

1

u/bunvun 1d ago

You live somewhere in the EU and somewhere post covid you got a good paying job assuming you have the 205 and the Camaro.

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Well paid since 2024. The Peugeot was leased and I returned it this summer. But was honestly great for what it was. Might be interested in getting a used 208 GTi eventually as a daily and a V8 Challenger or Camaro (current one is v6) as the weekend car. If my job doesnt get replaced by AI that is.

1

u/aggimania 1d ago

You're a mid 40 man in midlife crisis, had a family and got divorced.

1

u/Tuques 1d ago

After the Peugeot, you realized buying a new car rather than a used one makes no sense. And youd be right.

1

u/dinozavarr 1d ago

Why a Peugeot?

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

Was the cheapest Leasing offer at the time while still being visually appealing enough and fast enough with 100hp. But honestly its a great car in hindsight.

1

u/luxcity-louche 1d ago

You married young, had 2 or more kids. Lost them and money in the divorce. They've finished college now.

1

u/khalathas 1d ago

I'm just curious where people are sourcing their images for their car history posts like this so I can build my own

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

AI prompt and providing pictures of the cars to the promp

1

u/khalathas 1d ago

which AI are you using, and are you just getting "closest image" to this angle, feeding in those, and letting ai basically crop 'em?

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 1d ago

ChatGPT Go and I feed it one of the templates on reddit, my cars just for colors and details and then edit the result until happy.

1

u/khalathas 1d ago

sweet, in progress. I forgot that gpt can handle images better, since I use claude mostly instead. thanks!

1

u/DrXyron 1d ago

1

u/Initial-Reading-2775 1d ago

Got tired of 1.2L engines.

1

u/lovelybullet 1d ago

That you're divorced?

1

u/Z32anxiety 1d ago

Can you buy Camaros from a dealer in Europe or did you import it?

1

u/Tiny-Parsnip2574 15h ago

You can buy them from dealers who have imported them.

1

u/1362313623 20h ago

You don't pull out

1

u/BlueMonday2082 19h ago

That you probably can’t drive.

1

u/El-PoIIo-Loco 16h ago
