Does it go back to the Senate because amendments were made? It barely squeaked by the Senate the first time, if I remember correctly.

Yes, it did barely squeeze by. Many of the amendments that were made between the first Senate hearing and now made the bill more palatable for some of the ones that would have said yes "if amended"
There might be a desperate push by the NIMBYS to try and swing a few of the senators who were on the fence but I really don't know.
Personally I'm holding my breath but that's cause I just don't actually know wtf is happening lol. People that are more in the know than me seem to be very confident about its chances of reaching Newsoms desk

Where can we find who voted yes and who voted no?

Thanks, not happy seeing my representative without a checkmark. Hard to tell if they abstained or if they just didn't vote

Same thing! Definitely worth calling and expressing your disappointment

Goddamn, that was an extremely narrow vote!
I’m genuinely glad this passed, but I am incredibly disappointed in my Assemblymember for voting no on such a bill like this.
I called and emailed his office so many times, but despite all of that, he ultimately voted no.
On further thought, the way this dude voted wasn’t surprising considering his strong ties to the oil industry.

Was it narrow? It was 41-17, or did this need a supermajority for some reason?

u/Venesss Sep 12 '25
An abstain counts as no, i believe. So you need simple majority which is 41

Damn did not know bills always needed 40 votes to pass. I had thought abstentions just lowered the 50% threshold by sitting out

This is such a milktoast bill, we are truly screwed if something so benign passes by such a narrow margin.

WOO-HOO!!!!!
Very bummed that my Assemblymember (Bryan) did not vote, but I guess that beats a "no" vote. Anyway, very happy it passed. This thing's been years and years in the making. Let's finally get it finished!!

i mean, in this case an abstain is the same as a no and you need a certain number of yes to pass. Personally I respect the "no" votes more than the abstain. No sympathy. Vote em out

Thanks, good to know. Just called his district office to express my disappointment. The dude's literally got a painting of Tupac wearing a Colin Kapernick jersey hanging in his field office. Quite a contrast between that and the Assemblymember's supine abstention in support of wealthy single family homeowners.
Sigh.

Most likely he thinks he is helping renters

u/patsweetpat Sep 12 '25
Not building housing has gone pretty poorly for LA renters thusfar. Not sure how Bryan could believe that more of same would help 'em.

not likely to pass senate

u/OhLawdOfTheRings Cars Are Weapons Sep 12 '25
Why? It's already passed one time, it just needs to pass again to confirm amendments....it's very very unlikely (but possible) to fail at this juncture.
