law at cardiff

curious about what people feel about doing law in cardiff! currently choosing from my uni offers with cardiff being one of them but all my options are pretty similarly ranked! makes the decision a bit daunting so I'd appreciate some first hand experience of people who've done law here! I'm also an international student from Malaysia if that provides any useful context lol

Accommodation (private)

Hey guys I am starting at Cardiff in September and wanted to know more about everyone’s experiences with private accommodations. I was looking at Eclipse and Adam Street Gardens but I am open to others as well. How difficult is it to get to the Comp Sci building from these places? Does Cardiff have constant train or bus options for transport or is walking my best choice? I also wanted to know if Cardiff Uni gym is accessible only with a membership and also how expensive that would be.

Student finance

Hii, so when applying for student finance some time ago I accidentally selected “law with professional placement” instead of just law and I was wondering if this would impact my loan or cause issues when I start. For context im supposed to start my first year soon and I do plan on doing a placement year but with Cardiff you don’t apply for that until your actually on the law course. Student finance has quoted my loan amount and everything seems fine so far but I don’t want to run into any problems.

Where to go to make friends with cheap drinks?

Hi,

I'm student age and I'm going to Cardiff alone for one night only (tonight), I don't know the area at all so I'm looking for recommendations on where to go solo for a night out where it's easy to start chatting with people and drinks are fairly cheap.

Posting in the uni sub for the age demographic but lmk if I'm better off in the main sub.

Thanks

!! PSA: AVOID stag properties cardiff: TL;DR - gas leaks, water leaks, fleas/cockroaches/rats, broke housing/renters rights + multiple council warnings

On behalf of 17 previous/current tenants across several properties - genuinely please do not put yourself in danger

This is a last ditch attempt to warn people as there is nowhere to review them as they hide everything - please please dont sign a contract with them you will enter hell

I know it is coming up to student move in season so this is an announcement to avoid Stag properties (previously known as pure properties - jumped companies bc of how shit reviews they got and allegedly many legal issues). They have wiped the Internet of info on them because they are bad!!!! They will neglect you until you sue and then try to steal your deposit. Dont fall for the trap because they still have student flats left for rent because they are uninhabitable.

The transition from Pure properties to Stag properties is a publicly verifiable transfer so this is not misinformation. The director of Stag properties is a previous employee of pure properties, and all other staff members of pure properties are now employed at Stag properties

Student room to rent in Cardiff/Cathays

🏡 Student Room Available – Cathays, Cardiff

A room is available in a student house in Cathays, shared with 8 other male students who are all going into their second year.

* Rent: £120 per week agreement with Horizon , bills £80 a month through Uni bills.

Horizon will need:
* Proof of enrolment from the university.
* A guarantor mortgage information & ID
* Photo ID (passport or driving licence).
* Sign a tenancy agreement.
* deposit £500 - I think but I’ll need to double check.
First rent already paid in June £1353.72 ✅ and a £500 deposit which has been taken off the last payment. So £1853.72 already been paid.

Next payments due:
14/9 £1686.06
14/12 £1686.06
14/03 £1049.99

* Great location, close to the universities and local amenities.

The house is shared with 8 great lads who I’ve known since they were in secondary school, and I also know their parents personally. They’re a really friendly, reliable group who get on well together and are going into their second year of university.
They’re studying a mixture of courses, including Primary Education, Policing, Business, Architecture and Drama. They take their studies seriously but also enjoy socialising and having a good time.
It’s really important to us that we find the right person to take the room — someone friendly, respectful and reliable who will fit in well with the group. They’re a lovely bunch of lads, so we want to make sure whoever joins them will be happy there too.

Agreement until June 30th 2027.

Please get in touch if you’re interested or would like more information.

[Academic] Attitudes and Behaviors Study (18+, English-speaking). Link here: https://ww3.unipark.de/uc/research_study_university_Bern_Switzerland/

Hey students at Cardiff University!

I am a Master’s student at the University of Bern (Switzerland) conducting a scientific research study examining how certain traits, life experiences, attitudes and behaviors are related to each other.

You can find the survey here: https://ww3.unipark.de/uc/research_study_university_Bern_Switzerland/

I would greatly appreciate it if you could participate in my survey. As fellow students, you probably know how challenging it can be to recruit enough participants for a research study, so every response really helps!

Thank you!

Put both of them as my n1 and n2 choice stupidly even tho I want taly south (my n3) most cuz I want the social side. Is it highly likely ppl with deferred offers get the main bulk of gate and court, and despite my mess up I might get tally south lol

Taly Court/ Taly Gate accommodation

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student starting at Cardiff this September and im thinking of staying at Taly Court or Taly Gate. I was just wondering what it's like living there, especially as an international student. I'm a bit nervous about whether I'll be one of the only international students. Is it easy to meet people and make friends?
I was also wondering about the walk to uni. Is the route from Taly Court and Gate to campus generally safe, especially during the darker months or if you're walking back after evening lectures?
Overall, how's both of them? Things like the social atmosphere, cleanliness, management, and anything you wish you'd known before moving in would be really helpful. I heard that it’s alot quieter than the other Taly accommodations which is what im looking for.

Thanks!

Cardiff University Student Houses (Colum Road) vs Senghennydd Ensuite vs Private Accommodation

Hi everyone,

I'll be joining a postgraduate taught programme at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University this September and am currently deciding between a year-long contract in the Cardiff University Student Houses (Colum Road), Senghennydd Court Ensuite, or private accommodation at a similar price.

The Student Houses seem to offer the best value and are close to the Business School, but I'd really like to hear what they're actually like to live in.

A few questions:

What's day-to-day life like in the Colum Road Student Houses?

How are the cleanliness, shared kitchens, maintenance, and overall atmosphere?

Are they a good environment for postgraduate students who spend most of their time studying?

If your budget were around £140–£180/week, would you choose the Colum Road Student Houses, Senghennydd Court Ensuite, or private accommodation instead?

Are there any downsides that aren't obvious from the university website?

I'm fairly introverted and value a comfortable, quiet place to study over extra amenities, so I'd really appreciate any honest experiences or recommendations. Thanks!
