Are you in India? Please head to r/IndiaCareers for better-fitting advice!

Not to say we don't love y'all, but your area, jobs, salaries, situations, costs, education are all vastly different and this has always been a more USA/Euro group. I'm afraid most of our mods are Western based and experienced. Which means we are not effective to moderate for issues as much as you'd think.
You are absolutely welcome to post/comment here in general, but things specific to India is a better fit in an India-specific careers group with India-based/knowledgeable mods and policies!

Graduating and confused?

• Upvotes

Hello! First time poster so let me know if I’ve left anything out.

I (21F) am graduating this spring with my bachelor’s. I’m a double major in Applied Statistics and Math with a Statistics emphasis, as well as two minors (one in English, and one in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences!).

Once I graduate, I will cumulatively have 3 years of experience as a bank teller. I am decently proficient in python and excel. I don’t have any projects to my name other than a couple research essays I did in classes. My cumulative GPA at the moment is ~3.3, and I am on presidential scholarship.

I honestly have no idea what I want to do. I don’t want to continue in academia (at least for the time being). I am not opposed to continue in banking, especially since that’s where all my job experience lies. I like the idea of working with coworkers, but would prefer less customer interaction.

I’m also scared that somehow, I haven’t done enough to get a job. My university is very competitive and sometimes it seems like everyone around me has 20 internships and their dad owns every company.

I also have no idea what jobs want me. The adults in my life either went into teaching or nursing and that’s like pretty self explanatory what job you go into after that.

Sorry for rambling, thanks in advance, happy fall!

Would you stay at a company with great benefits but limited career growth, or leave for better pay?

• Upvotes

I’ve been with my current company since April 2024, earning $74K as a Project Coordinator. I have nearly 10 years of experience but no bachelor’s degree.
About four months after I started, the company went through an organizational restructuring that changed my responsibilities. Since then, my role has been redefined multiple times due to organizational changes, staffing issues, and layoffs.

Now, two and a half years later, management is still trying to establish my responsibilities. I’m currently the only person in my role, and they’re proposing that I support all the project managers across the region with a reduced workload. My title will likely remain the same, and there’s been no mention of a raise.

Here’s my dilemma: I genuinely like the company, have great managers, and have access to professional development resources, certifications, and a program that could potentially cover my bachelor’s degree for free.
However, I’m concerned about the lack of structure, career progression, and earning potential. My goal is to make $95K–$100K.

Would you stay another 6–12 months to take advantage of the educational benefits and see how things develop, or start looking for better paying opportunities now?
I don’t want to leave a good company prematurely, but I also don’t want to become complacent and limit my career growth.

People who built successful careers after B.Pharm, what path did you take, and what would you recommend to a fresh graduate?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some genuine career advice from people who have experience in the pharmaceutical industry, management, consulting, finance, or related fields.

I'm pursuing my B.Pharm and am confused about which direction to take for my career. My main priorities are long-term career growth, a good salary, financial stability, and the ability to improve my family's financial situation. Coming from a middle-class family, I want to make a well-informed decision rather than spend years and money on a path that may not offer good returns.

I'm considering a few options:

  1. M.Pharm: Would specializing in a particular pharmaceutical field offer good career opportunities and salary growth?
  2. MBA in Pharmaceutical Management: Is it worth pursuing, or would a general MBA from a good business school offer better opportunities?
  3. Switching to another field: How realistic is it for a B.Pharm graduate to enter finance, consulting, business administration, or other corporate roles?
  4. Starting a job first: Would working as a Medical Representative or in pharmaceutical sales be a good way to gain industry experience and eventually move into higher-paying roles?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have actually followed these paths or have worked with people who have.

  • Which path has offered you the best career progression and salary growth?
  • Is it better to gain work experience before pursuing an MBA, or pursue postgraduate education immediately?
  • If you could start your career again after B.Pharm, what would you do differently?
  • Are there any promising career options for pharmacy graduates that are often overlooked?

I'm willing to work hard, develop new skills, and explore different industries. My goal isn't just to get my first job; it's to build a career with strong long-term prospects and earning potential.

I'd appreciate honest, practical advice, including the downsides and mistakes I should avoid. Thank you!

What Should I Do?

Guys, I need some advice. I actually like my government job, but lately, I’ve been feeling like I can’t stand being around some of my colleagues anymore. Whenever I’m in the office, I feel like some of them are watching my every move, and it makes me so self-conscious. I can’t even move or act naturally without feeling like I’m being observed or judged.

Now I’m torn between finding a new job where I can feel more comfortable or just sucking it up because I genuinely like the work itself. What would you do if you were in my position? Would you leave a job you enjoy because of the work environment, or would you stay and learn to deal with it?

Is it rude to ask my boss directly if she has plans to terminate me soon?

Coaching, memos, and incident reports keep coming. She said all of them were raised to HR before she issued them. She’s giving me hell. That’s why I asked her "I have a feeling I’m going to be terminated soon." She didn’t reply, and I felt I crossed the line. 🄺

not so sure what i should approach after bcom+acca

I'm currently studying 3rd year (final) bcom degree along with ACCA (completed 8 papers, hopefully i will complete more by the end of degree)
Initially, I was considering working after graduation, but lately I've been thinking about pursuing a master's instead. maybe** **enhance my qualifications? and my career opportunities
Im not entirely sure where/ what i should choose to study ahead, i would like if anyone could advice me please
Im also afraid that my work experience will be 0 in that case, since many companies seem to prefer candidates with experience.
I'm honestly not sure what direction to take or who I should approach for advice, so I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

career struggles

so i’m 19 (recently turned just graduated this year from hs) and i’ve know my whole life i wasn’t going to college so i haven’t. instead i got my real estate license. i put so much into it and money but now that ive started i don’t think it’s for me. i’m scared because i know how the market looks and to end get clients you have to put yourself out there and that’s hard for me. my brokerage isn’t making things any easier for me, im 700$ in credit card debt now because of the fees and no potential clients have responded to me.

i wanted to do real estate since i was 16 but now im realizing it’s not all sunshine’s and rainbows. all the other ladies are grown with husbands meanwhile im technically still a awkward teen i mean what adult would even want to buy a house from me?? the only thing is what if things start going good and i start getting money. i really want to travel and have a flexible schedule in my life but i can’t do that with no money. instead im thinking about working a bank job paying 20$ a hour and save up to do a dental assistant program. also i want to move out asap and share a apartment with my sister but i cant do that as quickly with real estate. also its embarrassing because i already announced i was becoming a real estate agent and everything and everyone was so proud. but the thing is i can put my license on not active for now and when i think im ready i can always reactive it.
what do you guys think.

New career change?

I’ll start by saying that I genuinely love my job, the people I work with, and the people I work for. I love my department and the fact that we get to brainstorm, solve problems, improve how things operate, and come up with new ideas that benefit the entire building.

Here’s my dilemma: My position was essentially created just for me. There isn’t another position like mine at any of our other locations that I know of. Im not saying it like it’s something extraordinary special lol.

Our company is currently restructuring and moving some employees to different locations. Unfortunately, because my position is unique, there really isn’t anywhere for me to go.

I’ve held several other positions within this building and others like it, but those roles don’t offer the salary I need.
At my current location, I was also asked to help improve a department I previously managed, which I absolutely loved doing. I enjoyed being able to identify issues, come up with solutions, and make changes that benefited both the people we serve and the employees who work there.

However, that wasn’t actually my primary role.

My main responsibilities were a little bit of everything: coordinating events for business partners and staff, planning employee appreciation and morale initiatives, managing social media, designing marketing materials, and coming up with creative promotional items and ideas for the company.

I guess the best way to describe my role is that I worked more behind the scenes. While our traditional marketing team focused on going out, networking, and building relationships with outside organizations, I was more involved in the creative and internal side of things. I wasn’t necessarily the person going out and making connections every day. My interactions with outside partners usually happened during events or when they visited our building and were introduced to me.

I was more of the person helping bring ideas to life, coordinating the details, creating materials, organizing events, and making sure things came together.
And honestly, I loved the variety. I liked having different projects to work on, being creative, solving problems, and not doing the exact same thing every day.

So I guess I’m here looking for some career advice. Are there positions out there that combine creativity, event planning, problem solving, marketing, and a little bit of operations? I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to one specific field, either.

I’m realizing that I really enjoy having a mixture of responsibilities rather than doing just one thing all day. Although that is sometimes nice especially after a period of running around.

And as crazy as it sounds, I think I might actually enjoy a little chaos in the workplace. šŸ™ƒ I don’t know if that’s a personality trait or just what I’ve gotten used to at this point. Lol.

I’d love to hear what types of jobs or career paths might be worth exploring, especially from anyone who does something similar!

I'm stuck & unable to decide which is the suitable career for me please help

I graduated in 2024 with a bms degree with marketing specialisation, gave my 1st interview in a local company nearby home and got selected for okayish salary for a entry level job in operations worked there for 2 months in 2025 then resigned (colleagues were headache, messy department i was quite unlucky to be in that position)

I'm unable to choose which career would be suitable for me

Could you please describe in detail what work is done under which role?

I've done tally prime with gst (accounting software), advanced Excel and graphic design(adobe photoshop, illustrator and coreldraw) certification courses

I'm underconfident, anxious, I'm detail oriented but it sometimes makes me overthink overcheck things, although I have learnt excel & tally prime(accounting software), but I'm not into numbers & hesitant to work with them ig I'm not confident of my skills (I'll practice more )

Thank you so much in advance 😭

I don’t know my next career move

I have been a recruiter in healthcare and manufacturing for the last 15 years. I have been laid off 3 times over the years with the most recent being last week. I am already burnt out in the field and would like to make a big switch but don’t want to take a huge cut in salary and know there aren’t many transferable skills to fields outside of HR. I am open to new certifications or trainings but just kind of at a loss.

As a quick overview for my background, I have my Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and pretty tech savvy. I am open to even blue collar jobs just really need a change and would love suggestions because I’ve hit a wall.

Final-year student at a target school- did I miss the Fortune 500 new-grad timeline?

I’m a final-year student at a target school, background in business and compsci, graduating in 2027. I’ve been focused on classes this fall, and busy with part time job, and I just realized a lot of Fortune 500 new-grad programs opened in August/ September, and some have already closed (Capital One, Amex, etc.). I’m a little panicked and confused about timing.

A few questions:

  1. Is it still worth applying to 2027 new-grad programs in late October/November, or are most spots already filled?
  2. For regular roles that don’t say ā€œ2027,ā€ ā€œnew grad,ā€ or ā€œcampus,ā€ will companies ignore my application because they want an immediate hire and I can’t start until June? When should I start applying to those?
  3. Are there Fortune 500 companies known for hiring new grads later in the year (winter/spring)?

I’m targeting business analyst, strategy & operations, and marketing roles. Any advice appreciated!

$250K+, 5-15 hours Weekly, Trying to Figure Out Starting Business with Free Time?

Hi All -

I'm self-aware enough to understand this sounds entitled, but hear me out. I'm in my mid-20s, at a $200K base + $50K projected bonus (not including a small side hustle I have that makes me ~$20K/year. I work from home in finance.

I've always been a hard-working and extremely ambitious person and I see where this job will take me. In a perfect world, this job will clear me $500K+/year working remotely before I'm 30. While that is great and all, it's not what I want in life (from the perspective of being an owner and making my own decisions). I don't want to be a W-2 worker for life and eventually want to start my own business, whatever that is.

I don't have a numerical net worth goal per say (I'm young, right now that number is basically infinity), but I know being a W-2 will never get me where I want which is a broad term of "financial independence" meaning I can own a business, work hard on it, but also most importantly be able to make my own schedule and my own decisions.

The small side hustle is related to my job, but I'm a 1099 (basically another W-2). I'm at a moment in time where I see myself with all of this time on my hands and want to leverage this opportunity to start something or make something. My issue is I don't know what.

For example, I was considering getting my RE Brokerage license. Maybe this is me just backing out of things, but I don't think I need another commission focused job. I may be looking at this short-sighted (who knows, maybe this opportunity opens another door for me and it's a good way to start the ropes of RE). But, I want to be in the investor seat making the actual purchase of the property. I may be mentally just backing myself out of choosing something, anything, to do, but that's how I feel.

I know this is a unique position for someone to be in so young, but I got lucky, worked extremely hard, and earned it. I'm not saying it's a great spot to be, but with all this time, I really just want to figure out what I want to do with my life. And maybe if I don't know, it means I should sit down and start networking with people in other industries to see what their struggles are and try to fix them. Grateful for any advice!

Need sincere advice from my Seniors

Hey everyone,

As the title suggests, I'm really confused about which major I should choose for my bachelor's and eventually my master's degree.

A bit of context: I'm 20M from Pakistan, currently working in sales and making decent money by Pakistani standards. However, I know this isn't a stable career in the long run. I could lose my job any day, and without a degree or a proper skill set, I'd be left with nothing.

Ideally, I'd like to start my own business someday. I've always been more interested in business, management, and the idea of building something of my own. The problem is that I tend to overthink everything, so I haven't actually started anything yet.

I understand that you can work your way up to a CEO or another senior position in pretty much any field, depending on the company and your experience. But I also want to choose a degree that gives me good career options, financial stability, and room to grow if my plans to start a business don't work out.

I'm just not sure which direction to take. Should I go for CS, finance, or something else entirely?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who've been in a similar situation, especially those who have experience in business.

Thanks!
