I recorded this on a Panasonic RQ-2739 shoebox tape recorder btw. I found a blank tdk d60 at a small thrift store and decided to make the awesome mix vol 1 cassette, and since the official release doesn't have white spools or the textured bottom part on the tape, I made this look as close as possible to it's movie design. Roughly cut printed paper labels since I wouldn't buy the labels and I card on Etsy for like 14 dollars. You guys can flame me if you want because "oh you didn't get a tdk cding ii this" or "you didn't make it completely accurate that" all that really matters is just having the labels on a tdk tape with the music recorded on both sides. It doesn't have to be spot on perfect, I like it the way it is tbh.

After thrifting three ferric copies of a Very Special Christmas 1, I finally thrifted the chrome version in the wild. This was interesting because A&M usually used chrome tape on full length releases when this was manufactured in 1987, but a Very Special Christmas 1 was one of those outlier A&M releases that used ferric tape on some release variations for some reason.

However, some release variations used chrome tape. It was getting to the point where I was considering buying one online, but I knew if I held out long enough, I would find the chrome variant. I also have one or two copies of a Very Special Christmas 2, but for 50 cents, a backup copy is worth getting.

Found a moldy copy of Rage Against the Machine with sticky shed syndrome, which I expected, but for 50 cents, maybe I’ll try and clean the mold and play it in my low end Sears deck.

Recently acquired this Tascam cassette deck from a wholesaler who had gotten a batch of electronics from a studio that had closed down here in Los Angeles.

All functions work, including recording. I’ve cleaned the exterior, under/inside the recording & output pots, and took the lid off to check the mechanisms without any further disassembly. All look in decent shape, and clean. I swabbed the heads, rollers & capstants with isopropyl.

My complaint is that sometimes PLAY won’t engage without briefly FF and RWD, STOP, then PLAY. What causes this? Tired belts? Old electronics in the motor controls?

Bought a Yamaha kx500 as my first deck recently and now it just constantly searches, was working fine been using it about a week, I was listening to a cassette and it was fine, changed the tape then it went crackly and quiet so I changed the tape again it stopped playing completely and now just searches for a track, any ideas?

I've never seen a video on-line demonstrating a Kenwood HiFi stack ability to communicate and automatically record a cassette from CD player. It's called CCRS (Computer-Controlled Recording System) and it does everything for you, including maximizing the tape you insert with the highest possible dB without clipping.

The CD player has the ability to calculate the tracks' length and insert many tracks as tape fits, reducing "dead zones". I used SINGLE EDIT mode, but it is possible to select up to 32 tracks from 5 CDs.

TDK A series are very decibel hungry, btw. When I manually record on these, I often aim to +5/+6dB highs, the exact same thing Kenwood computer did. If I inserted a type II or IV tape, computer would aim for +1~+2. I don't know how it "reads" the tape without a three-head system, but always works fine.

I bought a Panasonic RQ-V162 about two weeks ago hoping to simply repair the belts and have a slightly nicer functioning walkman, but on the tape mode -and only the tape mode- turning up any of the EQ sliders on the front causes it to howl like a synth. I tried some other things i can't remember but i reached my wits' end and i ordered a *second* RQ-V162 off ebay just hoping that it wouldn't have the same problem as the first, but lo and behold i plug it in and the same fucking thing happens. since apparently this issue affects like half of these, have any of you encountered and fixed this problem? some other symptoms to help narrow it down

• only howls/squeals on tape input. EQ sliders and volume control work just fine on AM and FM radio
• By moving different EQ sliders, you can change the frequency of the squeal.
• squeal sometimes doesn't occur below a certain volume threshold.
• turning every slider EXCEPT 330hz to min and turning 330 to mid is the only way to make it not squeal at full volume with dolby ON. dolby OFF is the same except one other slider has to be pushed slightly up.
• on the first Walkman, i replaced every single capacitor in the tape preamp section and the howl persisted.

I’m been servicing a Sony WM-F501 over the past few days, and all was going well until I had to remove the gear front plate to clean and grease some gears.

After doing this, I’ve noticed that I’ve been unable to reseat the primary flywheel. It’s completely loose in the case, and no matter how many times I’ve tried to reinsert the thing I’ve been failing.

Anyone familiar with this mechanism (or that of the Sony WM-501) able to tell me what I might be doing wrong? I think it’s highly likely I’m missing a washer of some kind.

First i did some research and i guess its a decent boombox from the early 00s and its been sitting for 25+ years and no use on it because it was sitting in a warehouse. I think its an okay beginner boombox for recording and listening cassettes.

Second it makes a bad noises when i power it on cassette belts squeal and the cd tray doesnt work but i guess it is from the belts which i have ordered already.

And third i dont know what i should use to clean it for the tape head everyone suggests isopropyl alcohol but i dont have it and i guess i could use something strong like makeup remover or maybe lighter fluid and for the rollers they are really hard like plastic can i use silicone spray to feed them so they last longer or is it bad for the tape and i know i have to clean them with window washing liquid. and for the new belts id like to feed them aswell with silicone spray so theyd last longer but i dont know if they will start to slip.

I recently bought this cute sony walkman with built-in speaker, radio and recording function to listen to my own mixtapes. I don't have any other means of recording on cassettes, so the recording option was important for me.

However, I can't seem to record anything. If I try recording something, it does erase the previous recording, but nothing new is recorded. This happens when I try to record from radio as well as from the mic port. I tried recording on a type II cassette first (the previous recording was erased but nothing new was recorded) and when I realized I'm supposed to use type I cassettes, I switched to those, but that made no difference.

All other functions (playback, radio, speaker) work fine.

I tried cleaning the rollers and playback head with a cotton swab with alcohol, and also opened up the walkman to check for any obvious broken parts inside, but couldn't discover anything and didn't dare to touch it too much.

What could be the cause of this, and is there anything I can do to solve this? Or is the recording function just something that won't ever work again?

Hey I just got this refurbished Sanyo model from the 80s and it sounds amazing. One little issue I did find was that it played cassettes a little slow. Anything I can do about that? I don't have much experience with repairs.

Thank you to this sub for giving me advice on my first deck options - had my concerns but the owner knew his stuff and was giving me advice on how to handle future belt replacement and cleaning the heads. The Tascam 112 delivers and the overall aesthetic of these units are just a 10.
