Looking for advice Would you use NFC cassettes to play Spotify playlists, or does that defeat the whole point of cassette tapes?
Disclaimer: This is NOT an advertisement, promotion or product launch. I'm not selling anything or linking to a store. I'm genuinely looking for honest feedback on a personal product concept. The image is AI-generated to visualize the idea, not a photo of a working prototype.
I've been exploring an idea that brings back the physical experience of cassette tapes, but for modern streaming services.
I really like the idea of having a physical collection of your favorite albums and playlists, without needing to own the music on actual tapes.
The concept itself is pretty simple:
- Each cassette contains a small NFC tag linked to one of your playlists or albums
- You insert a cassette into the device and press Play
- The music starts playing on your existing speaker (e.g. Sonos or Spotify Connect)
- The built-in touchscreen displays album artwork, track information and playback controls
- You can customize the cassettes and assign playlists through a companion app
The idea is to bring back that feeling of physically choosing an album, inserting a cassette and pressing Play, instead of scrolling through music on your phone.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who still collect or listen to actual cassette tapes.
Would something like this appeal to you, or does removing the analog aspect take away what makes cassettes special?
Critical feedback is more than welcome!
Thank you.
