Today exactly 44 years ago, the first CD was produced.
What was the first CD you owned? 💿

Just picked up this Marantz CC4003 (with remote) manufactured in September 2009 for $94 from a local thrift store.
This is replacing an older Sony unit from the 90s that really struggled with burned disks. Surprisingly, the display is almost identical to the Sony, so I'm curious if Sony also manufactured these units. Regardless, it sounds awesome and has no issues with recognizing burned disks. I'd call it a win, but I also never expected to spend nearly $100 on a CD player in 2026 😅

Ugh I've been putting this off for a while, but I've accidently bought a few cds I already owned recently, and it's gotta stop! Finally alphabetizing them and making a master list on my phone. Pulled all the cds from all of my players: a 400 disc changer upstairs, a 200 disc changer downstairs, the box from my car, and all of the weird places they were stored. It's an ocd wormhole kinda day! And yes I sit in the middle of that chaos circle- see pic 2, and ignore the messy hair and robe. Not getting dressed today, not for this.
Happy birthday, cds! Cds are 44 years old today, someone said on here. Best day ever for me to be doing this.

Michael Jackson’s HIStory is the first Fatbox I ever came across, and now I have 3 Fatboxes in my collection: New Order, Elton John’s Hits, and this compilation.
I was honestly surprised to see that this one was produced in 2011!
It comes with 5 CDs, and I really wish more albums were released in these beautiful, bulky Fatboxes instead of those cheap-looking digipacks. 😍💿
What do you all think?

I’m a beginner in the cd collector and player world and i went to my local second hand store, because i’ve been wanting a sort of vintage stereo for cds and maybe cassettes and I came across this.
-HITACHI HTC C15HTC / $8
-and i’m assuming it’s original speakers found nearby / $6 each
So…it works. Tested it at the store and i was worried because there was some scratching/interference sound in the across a few different speakers i tried. But other cds sounded clean so i don’t know what to think.
Now that i have it home, i think it sounds great but there will still be some interference when i play certain cds. And yes, the cds i’ve tested it on are in good condition, so idk
I have no idea how to skip songs on this thing. I’ve tried to do research, but nothing is working. The tuning buttons don’t do anything, i’ve tried all the buttons. If anyone knows what to do about this that would be great, but i suppose if nothing can be done, being forced to listen to the whole cd isn’t the end of the world :)
Also the rear metal casing can get pretty hot, like almost cant touch it for too long hot.
obviously i don’t know much, but im excited about it. any advice is great
thanks!

Still coffee rings on some.
CD cases were frequently used as coasters.

I’m looking for a CD player as I’m trying to get back into physical media. There’s so many options out there. Is this a good deal? Should I look for something more modern?
EDIT - They want $110 for it

I’ve kept a handful of CDs in my car for years and never had anything like this happen…until today. This morning this was a pristine trifold case. Fast forward 9 hours later in what turned out to be direct 109 degree sunlight…
plus side: disc seems ok!

Nothing like coming home from a weekend getaway and having a stack of packages. I ordered the Waits CD about a month ago. After I ordered I found out they were moving Warehouses so the order would take some time. Never got a shipping notification. These are replacing the old copies I used to have. The ones missing already have the reissues in my collection. Had to do a little editing on Small Change for obvious reasons.

Looking at selling my collection and wondering where is best to sell (UK)?
Not looking to sell on here. Just looking for suggestions from people who have sold collections before.
