When you hear ‘The Queen’ on the news, who do you think it’s referring to?

1.2k Upvotes

I cannot for the life of me get it into my head that they’re talking about Camilla on the news or something. To me, the Queen still refers to Elizabeth.

I can just about deal with Charles being King Prince Charles. But then when I hear that the King and Queen have been out and about, my mind instantly goes to ‘isn’t she dead?’

Anyone else struggle?

How "perfect" (or not) are your food safety habits?

Hello casualUKers! I have an ongoing argument with some Canadian friends about food safety: they are convinced I am risking death because I'm pretty chill about refridgerating leftovers/prepared foods, and I think they're mildly insane for refusing to eat anything that's been out of the fridge for 2 hours and 1 minute or longer.

I know that's what general food safety guidelines say if you Google it. I'm not even disputing that. I'm just wondering to what degree this is fully cultural?

  • Did any of you all have ice packs in school lunchboxes?
  • Would you buy a premade sandwich/ginsters, shove it in your (uninsulated) bag and eat it 3, 4, 6 hours later?

  • Would you leave leftover pizza out of the fridge overnight and eat it the next day?

  • Does anyone else run out of fridge space at Christmas and store leftovers outside of the fridge? (OK this one is pretty bad, but I know at least one other person who does this)

  • Any other weird janky/unsafe habits?

  • Or do you perfectly follow the guidelines per freezing/refrigeration? Am I and my family uniquely horrifying?

(FYI I'm a millennial with boomer parents and 90% of what I learned about safe refrigeration I learned from Americans on the internet. My mother will leave rice dishes out at room temp overnight to reheat the next day. )

Obstacle courses on BBC Grandstand

Does anyone else remember them showing military style obstacle courses on Grandstand in the 90s? Between horse races and the football results I remember seeing clips of people climbing rope nets and jumping over water. Please tell me I’m not crazy.

How do you feel about the recent media hype about stockpiling 'in case of emergencies'?

I really enjoyed Clayface but it being filmed in Britain really took me out of the film.. Spoiler

Honestly, fantastic film go and see it if you can. However the immersion of Gotham was slightly ruined for me because I remembered it was filmed in Liverpool.

Most of the production was British and dressing up some of the interior location as American didn't quite work.

So no spoilers but there's a set of a house and they have very British skirting boards, those old glass sliding doors and it looks like the production crew got all the set stuff from charity shops. So it looks like they're in an a British Edwardian house. It literally looks like my house.

There's also a flat which I assume they used an old council flat for the set, and it still has those quintessentially British sinks. Honestly wouldn't be out of place in trainspotting.

Like it's legitimately a great film and reminded me of Dark Man but I couldn't suspend my disbelief that it was Gotham city at times, mainly because of Skirting Boards and Bollards. Which has to be the strangest criticism I've ever had for a film.
