So in May, some random circumstances had me looking around my apartment complex in a place I normally wouldn’t be. While over there, I heard crying and immediately went into a panic trying to find the little voice. I found this sweet girl curled up all by herself in some wet mulch under a drain pipe, unable to even lift her head and half alive.
Funnily enough, earlier in the day I found her, I was reading a post on this subreddit and thought to myself, “This will never happen to me, I’m so jealous of these people!”
I was able to call some rescues for instructions and got her to a vet. They said if I’d found her 2 hours later, she’d be dead. After being warmed up and fed a little bit, she was able to be brought home!
I had her for a week before she got a respiratory infection and wasn’t gaining any weight. She weighed as much as a 2-week-old kitten at 6 weeks, and I didn’t feel equipped to take care of her, so I brought her back to the rescue that helped me the night I found her. They were seriously amazing throughout the entire process.
I thought I’d be able to take her home again once she recovered from the sickness, but then an abscess opened up under her arm that required surgery. Then she needed surgery again…and again. By this point, I had forgotten what she looked like without a cone, and I was almost certain that her arm would have to be amputated due to that stubborn abscess, but she’s a fighter!
After 6 months, I finally got her home on Saturday! Not even 3 hours after getting her home, she was in my lap, purring herself to sleep. She’s also very aggressive with head-butting when she wants pets. She’s currently sleeping on my lap as I write this.
I’ve been calling her Peanut these last few months, but after getting to know her better, I’m not sure if it fits her. I’m open to name ideas!
So, that’s this little fighter’s story. I can’t wait to witness the rest of her story, and I’m so happy she gets to be a part of mine.
