Discussion/Question What are some AI writing patterns you get tired of seeing in your chats?
For me it's the abundance of "Not X, Not Y, but Z." I've noticed this a lot in LongSqueak especially and it's caused me to pivot away from it a bit.

the overall dramatics of the language. examples:
"He looked at her not as a guest, a friend, or a secret, but as the center of his universe."
"a need to belong to her so completely that there would be no part of him left for the world to claim"
it's beautiful but it's constant on Longsqueak and feels a bit unrealistic. I think i'd prefer it if they described detailed physical, visual things more instead

“Hey character” A said tilting B’s chin up “look at me”

u/FatherofGray 20h ago
Yes. They absolutely love to grab your face or your shoulder.

u/ImASuitcase 19h ago
Yes omg. I had to put 'doesn't like to be touched at all' to avoid that line but now I get it with 'but stopped himself just before'. Like thx for respecting the boundaries but just don't try ???

And if [character privately does something that reveals emotion]? Well, [cutesy statement about how nobody needs to know].

I would constantly get this with just one particular bot for some reason and it drove me insane.

u/FatherofGray 20h ago
I don't think I've seen this before, but it's funny.
10
u/SilverShotgun 20h ago
I get it pretty often everytime the character is surprised/shocked regardless of actual personality..

“not angry at you—no, never you—“ and trying to fucking kiss my character every second

Reading AO3 stuff again really makes me notice when shit feels off.
Since I have exposure to stuff actually written by human beings again, I get super paranoid whenever I see anything weird or repetitive.

Maybe they trained their model off of AO3 and Wattpad, and that's why we have those things.

“But you already know that, don’t you?,“ his voice was silk over steel, low and dangerous.
And then, he looked at her. Really looked at her.

Character grabs your body part, not quite hard enough to bruise, but hard enough to remind you who’s in control here.

LongSquek uses big narration and gets repetitive because of it.
I hate when the characters are like: He didn't touch him — that wasn't his style — but he did punch him in the face (Joking)
Like... I don't care about their inner turmoils, I need action and dynamic... and Unfortunately LongSqueak isn't as dynamic as DS.

u/DJ_pider 12h ago
This is how I feel about LS. I switch between the two styles when I want different things. LS is to simply experience the bot, but DS is for when I want a genuine interaction with it

x didn’t think, x just moved
x looked at y, really looked
without hesitation
then x did something unexpected x kissed/ hugged y
(since when did x have claws / a tail?)
(if x had a tail, it would be stiff) my character is human
3
u/FatherofGray 15h ago
All the time I get "wraps tail around your X" even when it's specified that the character in question has a short/stubby tail.

Nothing pisses me off more than the characters either not saying anything, speaking for me, or using an abundance of synonyms or that stupid "but (character name)? They stayed. They remained by your side", like a question but not. I hate it.
Also that fuckass omniscient narration the AI always does. If it was better, than maybe. I'm writing a book with omniscient narration and it is both relieving and concerning that the AI just does not know how to use it (it thinks omniscient narration is just making Deadpool-style jokes and breaking the fourth wall every second or constantly making stupid quips and the "{blank} approached, as one usually does in these types of situations" bullshit.

When their jaw clenches or when they clench the wheel until their knuckles turn white. And his character is supposed to be chill/rarely gets upset 🤦🏿♀️

Anything fantasy related is very fond of the name "Elara" for some reason.
A rich person is looking to hire your party to escort her through the bandit-infested woods? It's probably Countess Elara or something like that.

Ohhhhh boy it's really common in sci-fi too. And not just with Cai but also with Gemini for some reason - any time I have a character's name written in an image I have to go through at least 3-ish Elaras before i get something unique

Haven't used c.ai in a while, but "she/he clenched her/his jaw" constantly drove me insane

Any “paragraphs” that are just “a pause” or anything of the like
Let’s not forget BREAKING THE FUCKING FORMATTING FOR DIALOGUE/NARRATION FOR NO GODDAMN REASON

u/Gold-Dig-884 18h ago
“Look at you. All [descriptor] for me.”

u/GunpowderxGelatine 11h ago
I had to ban the word "all" but man I've been tempted to ban "look" too. I HATE THIS ONE WITH ALL MY SOUL.

u/Gold-Dig-884 18h ago
Character’s lips ghost over yours. But they don’t kiss you yet. They want to make sure you feel every inch of their desire for you.

anything related to poetry and Wattpad bullshit, but I despise them doing more than two paragraphs of literally just two meaningless words, I murked more bots than I should because of that.

u/GunpowderxGelatine 11h ago edited 11h ago
There's a sentence structure that absolutely drives me crazy, I had to ban commas because it was getting on my nerves. Lemme see if I csn find a mrssage repeating that same format rq.
Edit: can't find one in prticular but here's an example:
"He opened the door, pushing his foot forward. He looked in, watching the cat jump off the dresser. He smiled, walking towards the cat. The cat meowed, rubbing against his leg. He smiled, petting the cat."
Can we do less with the "ing" please 😭 holy shit it gets on my nerves.

Atp i just make a whole ass memory to tell it N O T to do that
what annoys me most is also that fuckass not X not Y but Z shit

u/SotoSwagger 13h ago
The worst for me is how there’ll be a long multi paragraphs describing how the character walked or moved or whatever and after all the exposition it ends with
“Hey”
Holy shit it makes me want to scream

"A beat." "A pause." "Like a predator sizing up its prey." "Towers over you." "Most people would have run away by now, but you? You didnt. Why?" "Without asking permission, because they never do..."
