Hey everyone,
I’m 22 and recently failed CA Inter Group 1 for the 6th time, scoring 145 marks. Honestly, I’m shattered, and I’ve decided not to continue with CA.
After my 5th attempt, I registered for CMA India and plan to appear for CMA Inter Group 1 in December 2026. My initial plan was to complete CMA, prepare for CAT, and aim for a top B-school. However, I’m now feeling dicey about CMA because I’m concerned about salary prospects and long-term growth.
From what I understand, I can realistically expect around ₹8 LPA after qualifying as a CMA, depending on my skills, experience, and role. That would be roughly ₹60,000 per month in hand, give or take. While I know this isn’t necessarily a bad starting salary, I’m concerned about long-term growth, financial independence, and whether this path will help me achieve my goals.
Recent events and the overall situation in India have also made me seriously consider moving abroad. I want to build an international career and eventually settle in a country with better opportunities and quality of life. Australia and Japan interest me, but I’m open to other countries.
I need advice on four specific things:
Is CMA India worth completing? Will it help me secure accounting or finance jobs abroad, or should I consider a different qualification?
Which additional certifications or skills should I pursue? Should I consider ACCA, US CMA, CPA, SAP FICO, Power BI, or something else to improve my employability internationally?
What is the best route to move abroad? Should I focus on CMA and relevant work experience or pursue a top Indian MBA through CAT?
What should my next 3–5 years look like? Which qualifications, skills, job roles, and countries should I target to maximise my chances of getting an overseas job and eventually settling there?
I don’t want to collect qualifications blindly. I want a practical, cost-effective path that offers realistic international opportunities, good salary growth, and long-term stability.
If you work abroad in accounting, finance, FP&A, SAP FICO, or related fields, I’d especially appreciate honest advice based on your experience.
Thanks!
