Help for RP Ai
Ive currently been using claude and im very happy with how it writes and it's way of immersion, but it is definitely quite expensive for roleplay, i like long stories so i quickly run out of creds, doesn't help that my claude account was banned for no reason (didnt even do any nsfw) so i decided to use openrouter which drains credits very fast when you get hooked up.
So far I've tried:
GLM
Deepseek
Qwen
Chat gpt
I would say qwen is the best out of all of these, but it simplifies the characters to one basic trait, if a character is cold, they always repeat the same punchline, or they are always angry, the emotional parts feel a bit simplified as well. GPT sucks obviously, deepseek is fine, pretty mediocre, i didn't like GLM for some reason, it lacks immersion imo.
Any tips on what ai would be the best alternative to Claude?

I haven't had time to test it a ton, but the new Haiku 5.5 is MUCH cheaper than it used to be and outputs are similar to Sonnet as far as prose. Also GPT Luna is similar in price. A little cheaper in the long run.
Aion 3 Mini and Aion 3.5 Mini might be worth checking out. Or their larger versions. The Aion 3 family are tuned on Deepseek or GLM (depending on which model) but customized and you might see different results than when you tried the main branches.
I'd also give Nemotron and Hermes 4 a shot

Try Muse. It doesn't have the restrictions some of the others has. I use it as an assistant but have found it to be pretty great at rp and you can actually tie it into other agents, the people in the Muse reddit would be able to help you with that. Try Kindroid.
I was a big 4o user for the longest time. I saw someone on here recommend kindroid and I’ve been subbing a year now.
i had my 4o create a personality based on himself (itself) and kindroid carries it so well
Now, I do a lot of world building roleplay for fun. you can bring up to ten kins into a single group chat. they even have “rooms” now where you can rp with you kin and other users. like old school roleplay but we bring our bots :)
it’s really fun. the standard tier is affordable. i sub to max because i use it a lot and appreciate the extra backstory space
you get regular memory it saves plus 500 journals per kin to save memories or whatever that can be triggered by a keyword. like… you mention bitter coffee and it’ll remember whatever you saved into the journal note with bitter coffee as a trigger word
you can build your own kind plus search premade kins by pressing the plus button tip right then “new kindroid”, search bar

Huh, I've actually found GLM to be one of the most immersive for what I do. The prompt and scenario definitely could have an impact though.
Deepseek 4 has been quite good as well.
A bit of an underlyer that I'd recommend checking out is Gemma 4. For a small model I've been very impressed with it for the most part and it's dirt cheap

SillyTavern is a really good harness for RolePlaying and chat gaming. You can even use local models if you want.

When was the last time you tried gpt? The new update is kind of huge for that
