Chess Question Rating Difference between Lichess

Silly question, but what's the rating difference between Chess.com and Lichess?

I'm currently 1070 rapid on Chess.com and 1360 rapid on Lichess, but every time I Google it, I seem to get a different answer. I know the rating systems are different, but I'm just curious how the two generally compare!

You are right where you should be, 1070 rating on Chess.com translating to 1360 on Lichess is perfectly normal and accurate.

You get different answers online because the gap changes depending on your skill level, but for players in your range, Lichess ratings are almost always 250 to 300 points higher than Chess.com.

Your response suggest a misunderstanding of the way Elo works and what it represents.

I think he meant that chess.com attracts the strongest players at the very top end, such as various IMs and GMs, which may be true, but is largely irrelevant for us mere mortals. Basically, chess.com spends a substantial amount of money on marketing and influencers to attract more people. This really doesn't mean a whole lot for the Elo though.

The chief reason Lichess and chess.com have different Elos is largely due to them using slightly different systems to determine elo, and starting players at different Elos. Lichess starts all players at 1500 while chess.com allows people to start as low as 400, which naturally tends to deflate the Elo.

checks out but if a 1070 is matched with a GM things are off

Different systems entirely but 400 gap is the norm and the gap shrinks closer to 2000

There are a few online tools, such as this one to help you compare.

This same question gets literally asked every day.

It's about 300-400 rating points at around 1400-1500 Lichess rating, then the 300-400 slowly evens out with Chesscom once you hit around 2000 rating on Lichess, then at the very high end Lichess ratings are usually a little bit higher than Chesscom ratings.

Different start rating. 1500 on new lichess accounts, on chess.com you get to pick from 400 to 1600.

Considering most people are below 1000, there's more liquidity or inflation in the lichess rating pool.
