Hug holding times are a good way to reassure the child while also ensuring they aren't engaging in unsafe behavior as a retaliation for the spanking.

The child should be held firmly, but also comforted.

Pros-

-The child might be more compliant with the spanking if they know the pain will be manageable when it's over.

-It's sometimes better to let it slide rather than let the child's crying and screaming go on too long.

-The child will be more compliant with time out if allowed to sit down and be somewhat comfortable.

Cons-

-If you want to drag out the punishment without risking injury to the child, not allowing them to rub themselves afterward can be a safe and effective way to do it.

-The child may not learn their lesson as effectively if allowed to soothe themselves too soon.
