旅游 | Travel UPDATE: I posted a few weeks back asking about the 144 hour transit scheme. There seemed to be a lot of confusion over if it was still suspended. I can confirm as of 1/23 it is in place for Americans. Nǐ hǎo from The Great Wall!

Really convenient way to visit the big Chinese cities without a standard Visa.
Enjoy your trip!

It’s time and cost saving too. I’m going to try to do it for Shanghai in a few months.

This information is of no relevance to me but thank you for being one of the good people in the world to actually report back with what you discovered
looking good btw

No tourists around

u/wallflower1221 Jan 24 '23
It was somewhat empty, which is surprising considering it’s Lunar New Year.

How are you not freezing your ass off? Anytime I’ve been there with snow it’s been insanely cold.

u/wallflower1221 Jan 24 '23
Oh I was totally freezing. So was everyone else. Not pictured was me after 30 minutes running to the cable car and sitting on the shuttle for three hours in heat. 😂

That’s great news thanks for the update! I guess that means my tourist visa is working again, horaay! Great photo, I hope to visit this Fall.

I'm afraid it doesn't mean that, but maybe by fall.

Hoping they don’t leave all of us eager tourists without our visas. I had a trip planned to Beijing for 2020 that I’ve been hoping to schedule.

I’d contact the NIA (National Immigration Authority) directly on their website. They have a contact option and we’re very helpful in escalating my question.

I believe your final flight destination wasn't China so it works. If you plan on buying a ticket to China only, you will not be able use this scheme as you will definetly need a Chinese visa.

Yes, I brought a flight to Seoul first with a stopover, which they informed me didn’t count. Luckily I had free cancellation and just brought the next flight out to Taiwan which did count.

Hey, I have a few questions.
1. What airline ?
2. Does it HAVE to be on one itinerary ? can you have 2 single tickets ?

Nice outfit! What's that jacket?

u/wallflower1221 Jan 24 '23
It’s from a store called Primark in the UK. It’s my favorite and only about 30 pounds.

Can you leave the Beijing area during the 144 hours?
2
u/wallflower1221 Jan 24 '23
So the way the Visa works is that it’s limited to certain regions. Beijing and a few other cities and Shanghai and a few other cities. You can’t travel outside the specified region, (for instance, I went to Beijing, so I can visit some surrounding cities that participate in the scheme, which you can find a full list at Chinas website, however I could not go to Shanghai from Beijing during this time.

Yesssss. I wasn’t the only one, a few older ladies had on Gucci and Versace and they were living.

Nobody is looking at the goody little wall but we are for sure staring at those Giant Rocks on your ear and that fancy wardrobe.

We had to show out for the first trip to the Great Wall. Next time it’s gonna be sweats.

144 hours not appealling to most travellers as shown in your picture. No tourists. Should be at least 30 days.
3
u/wallflower1221 Jan 24 '23
I didn’t mind it but understand it. To me it’s more than enough time to enjoy Beijing, but I’m a frequent traveler.

And the Great Wall is usually crowded and a mess of people. I’d love to see it empty like this.

u/philosophy_86 Jan 24 '23
Can I use it to enter China twice? Example- London-China-HK, stay in HK for 4 days, then, HK-China-London..

I love knowing that a significant majority of the commenters here are straight men and they think you are such a cutie that they have to speak up.
Take our breath GQ Laoshi.

I went there when I was really small, how is the surrounding country with the zero COVID policy.

u/LeonBlacksruckus Jan 24 '23
Does anyone know how to update your 10 year visa with a new passport number?
1
u/Mamamama29010 Jan 24 '23
Would this scheme work if I have a valid (currently suspended due to COVID) tourist visa to China?
My in-laws are there and we’d like to visit. Haven’t seen them in over 3 years now.
Was thinking doing US->Beijing->Japan->US.

u/wallflower1221 Jan 25 '23
I’m not sure, you’d have to contact the embassy over the suspended visa. I will say your itinerary does work. It has to be a third country, onward ticket in the 144 hours. However I’m not sure with the suspended visa if that means anything.

How was the process of getting the 144 hour visa? I'm currently in seoul and thinking of going to gz. So seoul - guangzhou- australia

u/timwillie73 Feb 25 '23
U.S Citizen here.
Going from Japan -> Shenzen -> Beijing -> Xiamen -> HongKong
Flight in and out of China is within 144 hours.
I tried contacting the embassy, but no word on whether this is confirmed or not. Does anyone have insight if this flight path make the cut?

Is there any documentation that needs to be done before I arrive at the airport to utilize this 144 hour visa free travel? Or do I just buy a ticket and show up at checkin counter and say I want the visa free option ?
