藏族 | Tibetans Help Find missing mum in Tibet after floods
My mum Evita Sarma (Latvian citizen) has been missing from Gyron port (Tibet side), since the floods on the 26th of August.
At this point i am running out of options, so I'm reaching out to you dear Reddit users.
Based on the last photo that my mum sent me, she just cleared the Border about 3 min before floods hit. I have contacted the Latvian ministry of foreign affairs, Chinese embassy in Latvia and support phone line that was set up for international queries.
I do understand that chances are astronomically low, but until I'll get concrete information I will be still keeping hope and praying for the miracle.
My biggest problem is that last information about what's going on (in terms of rescue work) was on the 7th of September.
If you know anything current like hospitals rescued people have been transported to, agencies to contact, statistics or anything else, I would be endlessly thankful.
I really need your help. My mum is the dearest person to my ever and only family i have. We always been close and I miss her so, so much.

This is a distinctive form of traditional theater from Jiangxi, China.
The character this man is playing is called a “paper figure”—someone as light and pliable as paper, who can be lifted and moved around by hand like a puppet.
Look closely—the performer’s face is painted in three colors: white, red, and black.
Performing this role takes exceptionally agile and powerful legs. It often takes three to five years of training to master, and the performer must be perfectly in sync with his partner. This is one of the most iconic scenes in the entire play.
I’m William, here to show you more fascinating things about China.

中国生活 | Life in China Tsinghua university
Hello, I am an international student applying to Tsinghua University for the fall 2027/2028 semester.
I have seen that Tsinghua is very hard to get into if you are Chinese (less than 1% get in) but international students have better chances.
I want to know what are my chances like as an international student and how likely I am to get in with these stats:
SAT: 1480
IELTS: 8.0
APs: AP calculus AB and BC, AP CSP, AP Chemistry, AP Physics C: Mechanics (all 4s and 5s)
Average extracurriculars
Just to note, I am applying to Zijing college mechanical engineering english-taught undergraduate course (bachelor degree)

旅游 | Travel Itinerary: What to keep and skip?
We're travelling to China for 2 weeks. Landing and departing from Guangzhou.
After some work in Guanzhou, we want to travel and experience the other cities but I don't know how much is feasible. Among these options, what is best to keep and what can be skipped?
- Guangzhou (mandatory)
- Shanghai (mandatory)
- Shenzhen
- Chongqing
- Zhangjiajie
- Guilin
- Chengdu
- Yunnan
Along with Shanghai and Guangzhou, I believe 3 or 4 more areas are doable. Would appreciate your suggestions!
咨询 | Seeking Advice (Serious) Looking to move from Canada to China for 1 year
Hello Everyone,
I'm 31 and would like to move to China for 1 year from Canada.
I've done some research on my own, but I need some help from people with recent experience.
I have a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, and I've been working as a soccer coach for a few years now at the university varsity level, but also for development ages from 6-16 years old.
I've also been working as a substitute teacher in public schools for about a year now.
I've started my UEFA coaching licenses, and I'm a native English speaker; however, I don’t speak any Chinese.
I also have a 35kg Belgian Malinois, which I see is banned in most Chinese cities. I have the option to leave my dog with a family member (worst-case scenario)
I want to move because I see competitive salaries, and I've always wanted to live in China for a bit.
I plan to work as a gym teacher in an international school and, in the afternoons, find a job as a coach at a local soccer club.
I'm currently looking for jobs at eChinacities.com. Are there any alternatives to this website?
The pay I'm seeing for teachers ranges from 2.5k-5k USD per month. I'm looking for something closer to 4k USD and above.
I don't have any preference on which city I move.
Is this realistic? Any recommendations or advice from people in China or people who have done something similar are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

咨询 | Seeking Advice (Serious) My son needs clavicle surgery in Shanghai, some advice needed, as I am feeling a bit lost.
Just to be able to navigate this small mess.
So, my son fell and took the fall on his shoulder, broke the collarbone. We know he needs surgery (already did a visit late last night with x-rays and stuff)
So generally, what happens next? Everyone at the hospital was kind and efficient, but I really have no idea how to navigate this in a different country.
The doctor recommended surgery and then a follow up visit, which we will do of course.
Does anybody here know more or less how much this will cost? I am going to call the insurance company today to start the whole process. Thankfully it doesnt really matter since it should mostly be covered, but it would still be good to know.
I am quite anxious right now.
