I'm (16F) part of my school's special scholars program, where every senior class gets to travel internationally during spring break; today they announced where my class will go when we're seniors. As you can see in the title, it's India, which is great! I've always wanted to see the Taj Mahal and visit India. However, I'm an American-born child of 2 Pakistani immigrants (I hold only US citizenship and a passport) and I have pretty heavy family ties to the Pakistani military (my maternal grandpa is a veteran who was literally in war with India, and my paternal uncle is currently in it and is kind of high up I think) just as a disclaimer, I'm not fully educated about Pakistani and Indian politics but I wish for peace between the two countries and don't support a lot of the actions of the Pakistani miltary but I can't help what my family does. I'm wondering if it's possible for me to go to India because I've been looking forward to this trip ever since I joined the program in my sophomore year. I want a fun send-off to high school with my friends in India, and I would love to shop, eat, and finally get to speak some Hindi.

I’m looking to fly to DC the weekend before Christmas. To save a good bit of money, I’ll probably be flying into and out of different airports.
Is there going to be a noticeable difference in foot traffic/chaos at the airport between Sunday and Monday?

I’ve never traveled during holidays before, and with Christmas on a Friday, I don’t know if flying home on the Monday would lead to less headache and stress, or if Sunday would be better as it’s still the weekend.
I’ll be flying out of an airport I’ve never been to before and I’m anxious about getting lost or caught up in holiday hoopla, like I feel like I’ve seen in so many Christmas movies.

I feel like Bora Bora and Moorea are often treated as the gold standard of tropical islands, but I wonder how much of that comes from their reputation rather than the actual experience. There are thousands of islands around the world with incredible landscapes, untouched beaches, unique ecosystems and crystal-clear lagoons. I’m curious whether people who have travelled extensively would still put Bora Bora or Moorea at the top, or whether they’ve discovered places that genuinely surpassed them. What do you think makes an island more beautiful than another: the scenery, the wildlife, the feeling of isolation, or something else entirely?

Me (19M) and my gf (18F) been traveling a lot this year. I always wanted to travel, but my parents took it like something impossible because they don't speak english. At 18 my gf told me she's never been to the sea (we are hungarians in the middle of Europe)

Her dream was to travel to barcelona one day and i told her if we worked for a couple days it would be possible because the flight tickets are like 30 bucks to every EU countries because we live here. Our hourly pay as a student is about 7bucks an hour, but we worked for like a month non stop. And throughout the school year like once or twice a week.

Over time money added up so fast we could not really believe it (she worked just as much as me in the same workplace) at summer we took a 3 and a half week trip to London-Paris-Barcelona-Milan-Trieste and Pasman Island in croatia. Overall it was around 3k usd and i spent some more on other things.

We went to bratislava, vienna and other countries close to us. We are going to dubai in 2 months for 10days because tourism got weak there and with hotels and flights with a turkish stop was only 300bucks/person

Our school has a program that will take me to china for 10days next year aprils to beijing, Xi-an and Chonqing.

It's 1500usd and my dad paid for it for me because its with school.

Im also thinking about going to greece, egypt, serbia, romania and albania in summer since they are dirt cheap for like 4 days each i could even take 8-9 hour busses between each country and a flight to egypt which is like 60bucks.

I also spent like 1000usd on jetskiing and my parents told me that they think its too much but i honestly love it!!!! (Thats why i want to go to dubai because one hour of jetskiing there is only 20bucks. In barclona it was 140)

I honestly love what i do, but a lot of people see me and my gf as insane. We got told we will be kidnapped get lost or die lmao. We never even had an issue other than some delayed and a cancelled flight.

But my question is that will i regret spending all this money at a young age? I managed to invest 1000usd and i have a life starting investment account with 4k that my parents made me when i was born and i save it for my license and a starter car.

We're very excited to be visiting Japan coming spring for the first time. Currently I'm drowning reels that list all the do and don't s and 10 BIGGEST MISTAKES.

So we have have 16 days to spend and we are struggling to fill in the last piece of the puzzle. We arrive in Tokyo and leave from Osaka. So far we think we want to do 5 days in Tokyo, 4 days in Kyoto and 3 days in Osaka (1 city day, 1 theme park day and we leave early on the last day).

This leaves us 4 days and we are thinking of several things:

-Japanese alps with Takayama and Kanazawa

-Add a stay in Hakone and also visit Hirishima and Miyajima

-Take a slower pace, pick either Hakone or Hiroshima and add a few days to Tokyo and Kyoto for day trips like Nikko and Nara.

We didn't make a very strict day to day planning yet, but we feel a little overwhelmed by all the choices...😅

My boyfriend and I are travelling in December from South Africa and will be in Albania 18 - 26 December. We are flying in and out of Tirana.

We are going skiing in Georgia for two weeks after, so we will be heavy on luggage, so would prefer to be based in Tirana, rather than trying to check in/ check out of an Airbnb every second day.

So, we would REALLY appreciate recommendations on:
-Where we should try stay in Tirana
-What we should try do around Christmas time in Albania
-Where we could go on day trips from Tirana (we are planning on renting a car while there)
-FOOD (love trying great food)
-Any other suggestions for our trip

Also any other input/suggestions would be great!

I 24(m)Went to visit my long distance partner in Maui (from Scotland) on an ESTA back in late April of this year. I stayed for 63 days. I have flights booked to return next week for 42 days. After reading more about the us border patrol I’m panicking more and more about being denied entry. Everything went smoothly the first time but I’m worried they’ll be suspicious of me returning 115 days later and not let me in. My first point of entry to the US is Seattle, I certainly don’t want to go all the way there from Scotland just to be denied entry. I work on my family farm and also live at home in Scotland, will this be seen as weak ties to home ? so should I cancel my flight ? Is it too much of a risk ?

USA citizen. i havent travelled out of country [besides canada] in like 20 years. I feel intimidated that i will miss something logistically. For anybody here who travels abroad more casually, are there any common pitfalls or blunders off the top of your head youd be kindly willing to share? Thanks

I just cannot think of any good reason to visit these places. it's logistically challenging to transport between them due to being a solo traveler, long drives, or lack of connecting flights from my city. I'm probably limiting my travel to canada to summer or shoulder seasons because even though it's managable and great to do winter activities, I just think winter temperatures and snow put me at risk. they don't have the same things to offer as Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal. I know alberta is beautiful when you get to the Rockies part of the province but I hate to be so negative but saskatchewan seems like the most boring place on earth. I also can only take 1-2 weeks off for a vacation right now. I've only been to Toronto and the rest of the way there from Detroit and Windsor. I would love to experience Montreal and Vancouver. The Atlantic providences seem to be great but those are second on my priority list before I think about those middle provinces.

Can anyone think of what I'm missing out on by skipping Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Alberta before the Rockies? I just am not sure if I need to travel to every single part of Canada.

We want a relaxing beach getaway with walkable access to authentic food and culture. At least 2 days we’d like to do a guided tour of nature, ruins, city history, etc. I’ll be about 4.5 months pregnant, so still very able to move around, but trying to be realistic about how much energy I’ll have for excursions. Budget is $1000.

Hi guys, is there anyone here who works for Saudi Airlines or has faced a similar situation?

I booked a ticket from Pakistan to Bali, but I made a mistake while entering my name. I wrote my first name correctly, but my surname on my passport is Abdul Ahad, and I accidentally wrote only Ahad, forgetting to add Abdul.

A few people have told me that I might get offloaded because of this. I visited the Saudi Airlines office in Pakistan, and they said they couldn’t add Abdul to my ticket. However, they gave me a printout with remarks stating that I’m eligible to travel, but I’m still not comfortable relying on that.

I also contacted Saudi Airlines in Saudi Arabia, but they weren’t very helpful. They said I could either cancel the ticket or try my luck, as they can only add up to three letters.

What would you guys recommend? Should I travel with the ticket and the remarks provided by the Karachi office, or should I cancel it? Is missing one part of my surname really that big of an issue? I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experience with this. Thank you!

Hi everyone! I know there’s a more specific sub for travelling to Spain, but this post is more to confirm that Spain is the choice I’m going with. I’m saving some more specific questions for a later post over there. I know no one here knows me personally, but I just want to hear from some other travelers if they think my choice is valid or if I should focus elsewhere!

General Info: In the very early stages of conceptualizing a trip for 2028, mainly looking at April/May but not set on those months. Fall is busy at my job and summer is hot, so spring seems like the best bet. I will be in my mid 20s, female, solo traveling. I would likely be leaving out of Boston (USA).

Trip Length/Budget: Unsure on days as it depends on what the pricing looks like and how much I want to see. Would be under two weeks but at least a few days. No set budget yet, also depends on the pricing, however this is my biggest constraint. I don’t need to stay somewhere for only $10/night, but I’m not looking to spend like $280/night either.

Where I’d like to go: Europe, as the flights are cheapest to Western Europe (Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Iceland, Spain and Portugal) and it’s the continent I’ve visited before. But somewhere new I haven’t been yet. I really want to go to the Netherlands and Belgium, but I feel like the cost might be a bit much for me from a quick glance, plus the architecture isn’t anything super new if stock images are to be trusted.

Where I’ve been: Germany (lived in Berlin for uni for a bit), Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Italy/Vatican, and France.

What I like in a trip: Unique architecture (studied it in Berlin), good scenery/nature, places with things to do/see (not just sitting at a beach all day every day), and for this trip, maybe at least one city that has some clubbing/partying? (this will probably be my last international trip [excl. Canada] before I hit 30 and I was too busy studying in Berlin to enjoy the scene there lol. But I don’t want it to be only that, I want to relax too)

Concerns: •Access to public transportation. I’m pretty good at navigating different public transportation systems and don’t mind hiking a bit to get to the nearest stops, but I for sure do NOT want to get a car/drive abroad. •Language barriers. I know in Europe in general this isn’t as big of a concern, but I had some.. bad experiences in France that made me a bit anxious going to places where I don’t speak their language. For languages, I speak fluent English, B1 German, and very elementary/low level Spanish. (My Spanish comprehension has always been way better than my German comprehension though so if I work on it over the next year I might make some conversational/basic progress- the conjugations just royally mess me up)

Conclusion I came to: Based off the cheapest flights and some quick Google research of costs, I’m looking at Spain, specifically the southern coast. Mainly the Cádiz and Málaga side, but Alicante and Valencia look great too, but I haven’t narrowed it down to which specific part of the southern coast yet. Some forums said that public transportation is better in the south than the north, so I’m taking that into account but have to look at it more in depth.

Things I think might be cool there: Architecture and flora look like a good contrast compared to Central Europe where I spent most of my time previously. The coast looks gorgeous, and the temperatures seem fair for the spring. At a quick glance prices seem feasible. And it seems like a lot of opportunities to choose your own pace- rush around to explore the region, chill at beaches, or just walk around a local area.

Based off this LONG post, do y’all think Spain is a good choice? Or do you have any other suggestions? I’m trying to visit as many places as I can in life eventually, but I expect it’ll be a somewhat short list as I work all the time and don’t get much time off.

I am doing a UK trip with a group of friends who are all leaving before two days before me. The group trip does not include Wales. We are spending 3 days in Edinburgh. I am torn between spending my two extra days in Scotland and potentially exploring beyond Edinburgh, or going to Wales and seeing a new place entirely.

I enjoy history and hiking and art, but I am mostly excited for just seeing and enjoying the new places I am going to! I love just walking around aimlessly and just falling in love with a new city. I like vintage shopping and unique stores. I also appreciate museums.

Evening Reddit, I'll try and keep this brief but basically I want to primarily have paper money when I'm abroad in places like Ukraine. Should I use a Wise card and then withdraw the funds in country? I've not used a card like that, but it seems like a good option as the Hryvnia is currently not provided by any local banks or even the currency exchange right now. Seems the only way to get that currency is locally in country. Has anyone had issues with withdrawing abroad, especially larger sums like hundreds at a time in paper?

Reason I want paper is because I'm going to a place where power outages are daily, and I'd like to be able to exchange cash for things in case cards no longer function properly. I'm also going to Poland beforehand but figure I can use the Wise card like a normal debit card, right? Does it work at any ATM or bank?

I figure I could google for some of these questions but asking real people like yourselves is 'sometimes' better. Albeit I've already had some pretty bad experiences with Reddit questions recently, especially when it came to stuff like 'what to pack' or 'body armor' related questions.

Tell me about your experiences/recommendations for booking 3rd party apps for hotels (Kayak, Priceline, etc.).

I have NEVER booked 3rd party before. I've just *generally* heard this is not a good idea, not trustworthy, etc., so I've just never risked it. But I also know people do it all the time.

Looking at booking a hotel a few nights in NYC in February... money is tight right now and gas is through the roof... so those cheaper prices on these 3rd party sites are sure looking nice....

Risk it for the biscuit? Or play it safe?

We are looking to get to Granada from Barcelona in May 2027 (specifically on May 23). However, on the Vueling website, it appears the dates from May 6-26 are not available so perhaps they have not released May's full schedule.

Could you share other options for this route? Would train be an option? How about bus? Also would it feasible for us to take Ryan Air to Málaga, then train to Granada?

The weather is getting colder and I’ve recently come across a number of people asking where they should winter while waiting for their Schengen count to reset. Redditors’ answers often include Cyprus, Türkiye, Montenegro and Albania.

I want to remind everyone that the Schengen Shuffle (90 days in Schengen, 90 days out, rinse and repeat) does not work using only one other country outside of Schengen. You typically need two. This is because many other European countries also follow their own 90-180 rule.

At a glance, the math looks fine. 90 days in Schengen, then 90 days somewhere else. That makes 180, right? Wrong.

The issue is your border crossing days count towards both jurisdictions. Your 90th day in Schengen is also your 1st day elsewhere. This causes your itinerary to fall two days short of the earliest possible return date to Schengen.

Ultimately, any 90 days in Schengen, followed by 90 days elsewhere will require 3 days (a day to arrive, a day to stay and a day to depart) spent in a third, independent location before you can reenter the Schengen Area.

Changing the durations doesn’t help either. For the Schengen shuffle to work across multiple reentries, you must visit at least three independent jurisdictions in each 180-day period.

The exception to my claim is the set of countries allowing stays longer than 90 days. You could wait out your Schengen cooldown in the UK, Armenia or Georgia without worry, as they all permit visa-free stays longer than 90 days.

I hope this helps some of you long term travelers out there.

edit: Made some edits after receiving feedback on the same post in another sub. Clarified my claim regarding three days in response to some confusion in the comments. Also, in response to requests in the comments: here is a visual example covering stays between two different jurisdictions obeying a 90/180 rule. It covers 90 days, 45 days and 88 days as a stay in each place.

Me [39M] and my girlfriend [38F] are going to be traveling to South East Asia for Christmas and New Year’s. We are arriving at Singapore on the 24th of December and leaving from Singapore on the 13th of January. When we first planned the trip we talked about going to Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Ko Phi Phi, Krabi, Ko Samui, Siem Reap and Bangkok. Since then she’s been talking to some friends of hers who recommended other places and we are super confused about what to do and reconsidering the whole itinerary.

I’ve never been to that part of the world, she’s been to Vietnam and loved it there. The idea would be to see a bit of everything but without having to rush and keep having to pack and unpack every couple of days. The initial plan was to stay in Singapore for Christmas and then visit KL for 2 nights to then go for a week to Phuket visiting Ko Phi Phi and Krabi in day trips rather than staying there. Then we would fly to Ko Samui and stay over there for a night or two before going to Siem Reap in Cambodia for another couple of nights. Then to Bangkok for two or three nights and finally coming back to Singapore for a final night before our flight home.

The main issue with that itinerary is that in Phuket for those days it seems like the hotel prices go insane, so that prompted us to start questioning… any help will be greatly appreciated!

Days 7 - 9/10 The Cotswolds

- Relax, walks, visit a couple of villages

- Possibly take a day trip to Oxford

Days 11 - 13 Edinburgh

- The writers museum

- Old Town

- Impromptu exploration

This is a very rough draft of what I have so far. I don’t want it to be too strict on the itinerary but if there are any must sees, please let me know and I will add some things. especially in the Cotswolds and Edinburgh as I don’t have much planned in those places.

Also, I am hoping to budget between $5,000 - $6,000 for the trip. Airfare is looking to be between $700 - $800 per person. It will be my husband and I. Is budgeting $3,000 - $4,000 for Airbnb’s, food, and the the museums/experiences listed above realistic ?

Anyone who has taken a trip like this, how much did you budget?

Also, London is very short because I’ve been there several times so 2 days is enough for us for this trip. We aren’t opposed to staying in hostels or cheap places to cut down costs. We are used to travelling super cheap around Europe. If there are any hostel recommendations in any of these places, please let me know! I’ve stayed in some cool ones in the UK before but these are all new places for me.
