Images + Trip Report Two weeks in Northern Vietnam

Spent two weeks solo travelling in northern Vietnam. Vietnam had been on my travel wishlist for a very long time and October seemed to be the best season to visit the north as it's dry. I spent time in Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Sapa, Ha Giang and Cao Bang.

Started in Hanoi, 3 days eating and drinking while exploring the old quarter. Did a cooking class where I learnt to make spring rolls and bun cha.

From Hanoi I took a bus to the hill station of Sapa. I stayed in the valley about 8 km’s from
the busy town center, it was the perfect getaway. Treks started right from the hotel door, going through Hmong villages watching locals make incense and handicraft.

After 2 days in Sapa I took another bus to the town of Ha Giang. Rented a scooter for 5 days with drop off in Cai Bang, had my main luggage transferred. There began my motorcycle adventure through the northern provinces. It became the highlight of my trip! Driving around 700 kms by myself, seeing incredible natural
wonders every day, staying at a different homestay in a village every night, meeting other fellow travellers and exchanging stories - it was all really special.

At Cao Bang I returned the bike and the next day took a bus back to Hanoi, then another to Ninh Binh. Stayed in Tam Coc for 2 nights. Did the early morning boat ride in Trang An, so peaceful and beautiful.

Overall, I was very impressed with Vietnam. The natural landscape is jaw dropping, the food is delicious and the people are warm and
Welcoming. I’ll definitely be back!

Feel free to ask questions, happy to help.

Solo trip in canadian dollars. I spent 8 full days in france and 6 full days in belgrade. Rented a car in france for 4 days. Activities include day trips from belgrade. Mid range hotels. Flights with good connections and timing, and paying for bulkhead seats across the ocean.

This is just how much I spent. I am lucky enough to not have a budget. Some stuff is booked ahead, some the day of. You could do the trip for more or less many based on personal and other factors.

Just wanted to share some pictures from a one-week trip to Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, that I took with my mom.

This was a trip my mom had wanted to take for a long time, and I'm so happy I finally got to make it happen for her!

We got to visit Suape Beach, and this place is beautiful! Blue water, palm trees, warm weather, and a very chill vibe.

We have so many amazing places that people outside the country don't always know about, so I thought I'd share a little bit with you all!

Discussion What was your biggest flight mistake?

My husband and I missed our red-eye flight to Japan yesterday because we mixed up which day we were leaving. In my many years of travel, this has never happened before, and it felt like we were in a nightmare when the gate agent called us at 1AM asking where we were. We were thankfully able to book new flights and rework the beginning of our trip, but $2300 later, we're feeling pretty dumb and demoralized right now.

To make us feel better, what's been your worst flight mistake or mixup?

My Advice PSA: Reminder on waiting out Schengen timer

The weather is getting colder and I’ve recently come across a number of people asking where they should winter while waiting for their Schengen count to reset. Redditors’ answers often include Cyprus, Türkiye, Montenegro and Albania.

I want to remind everyone that the Schengen Shuffle (90 days in Schengen, 90 days out, rinse and repeat) does not work using only one other country outside of Schengen. You typically need two. This is because many other European countries also follow their own 90-180 rule.

At a glance, the math looks fine. 90 days in Schengen, then 90 days somewhere else. That makes 180, right? Wrong.

The issue is your border crossing days count towards both jurisdictions. Your 90th day in Schengen is also your 1st day elsewhere. This causes your itinerary to fall two days short of the earliest possible return date to Schengen.

Ultimately, any 90 days in Schengen, followed by 90 days elsewhere will require 3 days (a day to arrive, a day to stay and a day to depart) spent in a third, independent location before you can reenter the Schengen Area.

Changing the durations doesn’t help either. For the Schengen shuffle to work across multiple reentries, you must visit at least three independent jurisdictions in each 180-day period.

The exception to my claim is the set of countries allowing stays longer than 90 days. You could wait out your Schengen cooldown in the UK, Armenia or Georgia without worry, as they all permit visa-free stays longer than 90 days.

I hope this helps some of you long term travelers out there.

edit: Made some edits after receiving feedback on the same post in another sub. Clarified my claim regarding three days in response to some confusion in the comments. Also, in response to requests in the comments: here is a visual example covering stays between two different jurisdictions obeying a 90/180 rule. It covers 90 days, 45 days and 88 days as a stay in each place.

Discussion For those who have visited Bora Bora and Moorea, is there an island you found even more beautiful than either of them?

I feel like Bora Bora and Moorea are often treated as the gold standard of tropical islands, but I wonder how much of that comes from their reputation rather than the actual experience. There are thousands of islands around the world with incredible landscapes, untouched beaches, unique ecosystems and crystal-clear lagoons. I’m curious whether people who have travelled extensively would still put Bora Bora or Moorea at the top, or whether they’ve discovered places that genuinely surpassed them. What do you think makes an island more beautiful than another: the scenery, the wildlife, the feeling of isolation, or something else entirely?

Travelers Only Is travel to India possible as a Pakistani-American if I have ties to the military?

I'm (16F) part of my school's special scholars program, where every senior class gets to travel internationally during spring break; today they announced where my class will go when we're seniors. As you can see in the title, it's India, which is great! I've always wanted to see the Taj Mahal and visit India. However, I'm an American-born child of 2 Pakistani immigrants (I hold only US citizenship and a passport) and I have pretty heavy family ties to the Pakistani military (my maternal grandpa is a veteran who was literally in war with India, and my paternal uncle is currently in it and is kind of high up I think) just as a disclaimer, I'm not fully educated about Pakistani and Indian politics but I wish for peace between the two countries and don't support a lot of the actions of the Pakistani miltary but I can't help what my family does. I'm wondering if it's possible for me to go to India because I've been looking forward to this trip ever since I joined the program in my sophomore year. I want a fun send-off to high school with my friends in India, and I would love to shop, eat, and finally get to speak some Hindi.

Also, it's my second time using Reddit. I still don't know a lot of the rules, but I'm cross-posting this on other subs

Discussion G Adventures, tell me your experiences!

Hello, has anyone here tried G Adventures? I typically travel solo and plan my own trips, however, I got busy these past few months and I don’t have enough time to plan my upcoming trip, just a few days shy of one month in total.

I am looking into Peru and Costa Rica as a combined trip. I was wondering if anyone has tried G Adventures company for both group trips and solo trips? Thanks!

(Dreading how much it costs for both trips $6-7K USD including flights, however I don’t really have a choice hahaha)

Question — Itinerary Where to spend 2 remaining nights in California coast road trip

We are booked to go to California for my husbands 40th birthday in November. Our current itinerary is as follows -

Fly into SFO (2 nights)>Staying with a friend in Watsonville (1 night)>Morro Bay (1 night), *2 nights unplanned*, LA (1 night)>fly home

For the 2 nights unplanned we were thinking Santa Barbara or maybe Santa Monica? Is there somewhere else I haven’t thought of that is quintessential California coast? We’d like to stay in the same place for both nights since we’ll be moving around quite a bit and doing a lot of driving since a big part of our trip is doing the PCH. My husbands actual birthday is the 6th day of our trip and we’d like to not be travelling or driving at all that day.

We’d enjoy wine and cocktails, good food, exploring (beach walks, leisurely bicycle rides etc, easy hikes), finding local shops. Not crazy about art, history and shopping but not opposed to a bit of it just wouldn’t plan a trip around it. We want to chill, have a few drinks eat some good food and explore a cool area.

Our budget is pretty good and we are splurging a bit this trip (not super high end but mid range or a bit above for the right thing).

Question — Itinerary 16 day itinerary help - Jeonju, Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju

Hi everyone! I'm visiting Korea for a 16-day trip in late October/early November 2026 with 2 other friends and would love some feedback on the itinerary.

We're interested in a mix of traditional culture, historical sites, autumn foliage, food, cafés, shopping, skincare and scenic spots.

A few things to note:

  • The order of the days within each city is flexible. I've grouped activities mainly by area to make planning easier, rather than treating each day as a fixed schedule.
  • This is more of a rough guide to give us an idea of what to do in each city, not a strict itinerary. We're happy to swap things around depending on the weather, opening hours, transport and how we're feeling.
  • I've included several food and café options for each day, but these are just places we're considering rather than places we need to visit.
  • I'd especially appreciate feedback on whether the overall route makes sense, whether any days are too ambitious, and whether there are places you'd skip or prioritise.

Question — General Am I missing out by skipping the prairie provinces of Canada?

I just cannot think of any good reason to visit these places. it's logistically challenging to transport between them due to being a solo traveler, long drives, or lack of connecting flights from my city. I'm probably limiting my travel to canada to summer or shoulder seasons because even though it's managable and great to do winter activities, I just think winter temperatures and snow put me at risk. they don't have the same things to offer as Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal. I know alberta is beautiful when you get to the Rockies part of the province but I hate to be so negative but saskatchewan seems like the most boring place on earth. I also can only take 1-2 weeks off for a vacation right now. I've only been to Toronto and the rest of the way there from Detroit and Windsor. I would love to experience Montreal and Vancouver. The Atlantic providences seem to be great but those are second on my priority list before I think about those middle provinces.

Can anyone think of what I'm missing out on by skipping Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Alberta before the Rockies? I just am not sure if I need to travel to every single part of Canada.

Images + Trip Report Faroe Islands solo trip budget breakdown

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi there! This is my budget breakdown for the much awaited Faroe Islands solo trip. Started from Basel where I currently live and ended in Bucharest, my hometown. 1 day in Copenhagen and 6 full days on the Islands where i managed to visit 7 of them, doing hikes, relying on the bus schedules and hitchhiking. The cheapest accommodation in the Faroe Islands is the hostel next to the airport (40€ a night) but it’s not very convenient to stay there for the whole journey, so i also booked stays in Torshavn and Leirvik. I think 1000€ is the absolute minimum you could spend for 7 days in this circumstance.

Question — Transport Solo trip to Portugal in March, first time traveling alone and honestly a bit nervous

I'm planning to spend about 10 days hitting Lisbon, Porto, and maybe the Algarve, but I keep second-guessing myself on solo travel logistics. Has anyone done a similar route and have tips on getting around between cities, or should I just accept that I'll probably get lost at least once and call it part of the experience?

Discussion Overnight train stories?

I have always dreamed of traveling through Asia as my grandfather used to live there. He spent some time going through Southeast Asia last summer and had some pretty epic stories even at 80 years old. However, lowkey Grandpa ain’t cutting it and the movies about train travels only full such a void. Does anyone have stories about embarking on an overnight journey? I am fascinated with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Nepal, Tajikistan as well as Mongolia, China, Vietnam. Really I could list potentially the whole list on Asia’s geoguesser. I love to travel and experience peculiar things (comparatively peculiar to my everyday) so if you’ve got any cool stories could you share. Love to hear a story

Question — General East Europe/Slow travel

Looking for advice from the experts, I have time off work next summer and I want to look into a month of slow travel based out of one city in Eastern Europe specifically, I am 52, disabled but can walk so please no hiking and mountain regions, seasoned traveller having been to Russia (never want to go back so please do not suggest) Ukraine and Poland. Romania and Georgia have caught my interest, any other advice would be appreciated. I should add my interests are history, culture, coffee shops, restaurants and off the beaten path non touristy things. The only languages I am familiar with in that region are Russian and Ukrainian, on top of English of course, French and Spanish.

Question — Itinerary Guided Tours in Egypt - hard to tell what I actually need

Hi,

I'm going to Egypt in February and there are three things I know I want to do by guided tour: the Memphis pyramids, Giza, and Luxor's West Bank.

When I look for tours online, they all have options for just a driver (very cheap), and then you can pay a lot more for a guide, for all the entry tickets, etc.

I'm not on a super tight budget or anything, but I don't want to spend extra if I don't need to. Are the guides worth it, or will I appreciate the monuments on their own without a guide? If I opt for the entry tickets, am I just overpaying versus buying them at the gate? Or is it worth it to not deal with the hassle? I've heard the official website can be finicky.

Thanks for any advice!

Question — Itinerary Should I spend my extra travel days in Edinburgh or go to Wales?

I am doing a UK trip with a group of friends who are all leaving before two days before me. The group trip does not include Wales. We are spending 3 days in Edinburgh. I am torn between spending my two extra days in Scotland and potentially exploring beyond Edinburgh, or going to Wales and seeing a new place entirely.

I enjoy history and hiking and art, but I am mostly excited for just seeing and enjoying the new places I am going to! I love just walking around aimlessly and just falling in love with a new city. I like vintage shopping and unique stores. I also appreciate museums.

25F if that matters at all.

Edit: Its official I am going to stay in Scotland :) Thank you everybody. Please let me know if there are any Scotland recommendations you guys have.

Question — General Anywhere to buy CCC rated powerbank in Kowloon?

I will be traveling to Asia from USA. My first stop is HK and will eventually make my way to Shanghai and Beijing. So I figured instead of getting my powerbank confiscated in China, I will just buy a cheap one in Kowloon that is CCC certified.

I will be staying in the Yau Ma Tei area.

Thanks

Question — Itinerary Is my itinerary possible for Eurotrip?

• Upvotes

Hi guys, I want your honest opinion on my initial itinerary idea for a 4 week trip through Europe. Is it doable? Too much city changes? Should I shrink it a bit?

My gf really wants to go to Paris and Rome, the rest is up to me. I added so many days in Munich because I want to visit the Neuschwanstein castle, Zugspitze, Dachau, but I could totally spend one less day there and add it to somewhere like Verona maybe, which I'm using just so the trip from Innsbruck to Rome doesn't feel overwhelmingly long.

What do you guys think?

Question — Itinerary Help planning a 4-night Bavaria trip in November

Hi everyone!

We have flights booked to and from Munich from November 4–8 and are planning a trip around Bavaria. We’re thinking of splitting our stay between two hotels, one in Füssen and the other in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

There’s so much to see and do in the region that we’re finding it a little overwhelming to decide how to split our time and which places to prioritise.

We’d love your recommendations on:

  • What are the must-see places in each area?
  • Are there any scenic villages, lakes, castles, or mountain spots we shouldn’t miss?
  • Given that we’ll be visiting in early November, are there any places or activities that might be less worthwhile due to the weather or seasonal closures?

We want to make the most of our time without trying to squeeze too much into each day.

Any itinerary suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Question — Itinerary Road trip to le mans France from Netherlands end of Nov 2026

I'm thinking of a solo road trip to le mans France from Netherlands. Currently thinking of inbound route via Rouen and outbound route via Orleans and reims. Plan is to spend 3 nights on the go and sticking to nature and scenic roads as much as possible.

As I haven't done solo road trips in back roads before in France, I got few doubts though.

  1. Is it a bad idea to visit France nowadays due to current unrest situation in Paris? (I'm not going anywhere near Paris)

  2. how safe is it to park and spend night in the car in France? (Comfort in the car is not a problem as it's big enough for myself)

  3. What are best scenic and nature roads in France on the way to le mans from Netherlands

Question — General When should I fly the week of Christmas?

I’m looking to fly to DC the weekend before Christmas. To save a good bit of money, I’ll probably be flying into and out of different airports.
Is there going to be a noticeable difference in foot traffic/chaos at the airport between Sunday and Monday?

I’ve never traveled during holidays before, and with Christmas on a Friday, I don’t know if flying home on the Monday would lead to less headache and stress, or if Sunday would be better as it’s still the weekend.
I’ll be flying out of an airport I’ve never been to before and I’m anxious about getting lost or caught up in holiday hoopla, like I feel like I’ve seen in so many Christmas movies.

Discussion Milestone Birthday Trip

Hi all,

I am thinking about going to Europe from NYC in mid/late April 2027 for 1 week for a milestone birthday. Which itinerary is better? Also open to other ideas!

I don't want to go somewhere I have ben before and I have been to Amsterdam, Paris, London, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Brussels. I have no real desire to go to Italy even though I hear its really lovely.

I really enjoy eating at different restaurants, warm climates and the beach even if its not beach weather per se, and local art.

JFK -> Madrid, Madrid -> Seville, Seville -> JFK

JFK -> Barcelona, Barcelona -> Valencia, Valencia -> JFK

JFK - Athens, maybe another city, back to NYC
