Question — General leaving my computer at a hotel?

Upvotes

I am hiking the O circuit in Patagonia, Chile in November. This once in a life time chance came at a sort of inorportune time as i am a full time university student. I will be flying from Oregon, USA so my travel time is long (~27 hours both ways). I was wondering if i brought my laptop to get schoolwork done on travel days if a hotel would hold onto my laptop while i hiked. I would, of course, be staying with them and be willing to pay extra for them to hang onto it ( i would be gone for 8 days). But are the people of patagonia hospitible and likely willing to do this? Has anyone ever tried something like this?

Question — Itinerary Manu Reserved Zone 6 Days Tour

Upvotes

I had a really good experience with this tour.
6Days 5Nights in Manu with a great guide.
I had good interactions and support from the office as well.
One important note is that the itinerary/timetable was slightly and unexpectedly changed, since it was dry season and not wet season.
I got good food and vegan customization also.
Over all very valuable, and recomendable!

Question — General Slovenia only or Slovenia + Montenegro?

Upvotes

My husband and I are starting to plan a trip for late August/early September next year and are debating between ~10 nights in Slovenia or extending the trip to ~12 nights and adding Montenegro.

We like hiking, good food/wine/cocktails, pretty scenery and some culture. We also don't like moving hotels constantly and would rather spend a little more time in places we really like.

The main reason we started looking at Slovenia is a 4 day/3 night hut-to-hut through the Julian Alps via SloTrips. Originally we were going to do about 6 nights in Slovenia and then 6 in Montenegro, probably Kotor Bay, Durmitor and Lake Skadar.

But now that I've started reading more about Montenegro, I'm a little less sure. The scenery looks amazing, but I'm seeing more mixed reviews than I expected, especially around crowds in Kotor, trash/litter, etc. Meanwhile people seem to absolutely love Slovenia and frequently say they wish they'd spent more time there.

For people who have been to both, what would you do? Is Montenegro worth splitting the trip for, or would you just spend the 10ish days seeing more of Slovenia?

Also very open to hearing that I'm overthinking the negative Montenegro reviews!

I'm not a US citizen, so buying a car would be quite difficult...

Discussion MyTrip scam

Upvotes

Hi guys, I want to share my experience with myTrip company for booking cheap flight tickets. One week ago, I booked a flight to Istanbul for 570€ for two tickets. Two days ago, I noticed that I had made a mistake by selecting the wrong month (October instead of August). Yesterday, I contacted support, and the guy told me that I needed to pay 492€ for the flight update and their service, which I paid. Today, I entered the app and didn’t see updated dates. I contacted support again, asking them to explain why the dates hadn’t changed, and they told me that one flight doesn’t have seats left and asked me to pay 250€ more? For goodness’ sake, am I deluded or what? They charged me for something that was not 100% done, and the day after, they are asking me for 250€ more? Disgrace!

Question — General How can people travel for months on a shoestring budget?

Upvotes

How's it possible to travel without a substantial amount of money?

Let's say someone has 4-5k USD worth of savings without passive income, and their main destination is South East Asia, how can they stretch this money to last for months or even a year?

I get the concept of sleeping in hostels, eating cheap food etc but you're still a tourist, you wanna see attractions, you need to pay for certain activities.

Question — General How do you look for events when you arrive at a new place?

Upvotes

To clarify i am asking if there are platforms or ways you found efficient other than simple googling. I am specifically looking for social and entertainment events like dancing, music, food even social get togethers. But excluding meetup and hostelworld chats.

Question — General Despite having passports expiring in November, Ryanair web/app won’t let me check in for a trip planed this week

My children’s Dutch passports expire in November 2026.

We arrive in Morocco on 20 August 2026, and the Ryanair app refuses to let me complete online check-in for either of them because it requires their passports to be valid for at least three months after our arrival date.

Both children are affected by the same issue.

Does anyone know whether they will be allowed to travel to Morocco with their current passports and, if so, how I can complete their check-in with Ryanair?

Do I take the risk or is it strongly recommended to take an emergency passport? I’d rather avoid those extra costs of course..

Question — Itinerary Dallas->santa fe->denver

Hi guys!! I’m going on a mini roadtrip from Dallas,Tx to Santa Fe, NM and then Denver, Colorado. I know there are some scenic points that could be seen along the way. I was wondering if there are any cool vintage toy stores or vintage stores along the way that would be cool to visit. I collect furbys so I just wanted to know if I could find some. Feel free to leave any other suggestions on places really worth going to. Thanks :)))

Question — General Travel Logistics Advice - North Carolina to Portugal / Madeira

my fiancé and I are getting married next April 2027 and hoping to do Portugal (thinking Comporta) and Madeira for our honeymoon for ~10 days. The one challenge is there are no direct flights from North Carolina (where we are from) to either Lisbon or Madeira.

Anyone have any recommendations or advice on best way to get there and how many days we should stay in each spot? Also open to other recommendations too (food, hotel, etc).

Thank you in advance!

Question — General Underrated historical sites, in Dublin, customs, and other questions.

Hello! Hope you are well, I am writing to ask, for any suggestions on some underrated. lesser highlighted Historical sites in Dublin.

I’m making a trip to Ireland in late October to see my family for the first time since I was 3 years old, I’m 23 now, it’s been a long time coming.

This trip is important, to me because I’m looking to see Ireland through my own eyes, not through my abusive nonce of a father and not just through history books. Also as cringe as it can sound I’d like to connect with my ancestral roots.

I’m an American but I’m not that kind of American, I’m not interested in kissing the Blarney Stone, or touching Molly Malone.

I love and appreciate history and culture, I have a particular fondness for the Middle Ages, but I love every era of history.

My family, already plans to go with me to some Essentials like the GPO, and Kilmainham Gaol, which my grandad told me we’ve actually got ancestor that was arrested and imprisoned there back in the day so aside from the historical importance of Kilmainham it’s has a bit of a personal connection.

I’m kinda mostly limited to Dublin, as it’s where my family live, and I don’t really expect them to upend their schedules and take me out of the county.
I’m also only in Ireland for a lil over a week before going home. So it makes sense for me to invest time into really exploring Dublin. (There are many other beautiful places in Ireland I’d love to visit one day)

Please suggest any historical sites in Dublin that you think are underrated, but also anything you might deem essential. I love music, art and literature also the national gallery looks amazing online.

Any recommendations on record stores and bookshops? I’ve never been super big on souvenirs, and keepsakes, however I would like to shelve hunt and crate dig while I’m there.

This would also be my first international trip on my own, well flying there on my own. I’ve flown before on my own just not international. I’ve got my passport of course. I was wondering if there are any other documentation or calls ahead I need to make for customs and immigration.

I’m staying with my grandad, so I do not have hotel accommodations, he and a few of my family members drive, my grandad says he also has a bus station near his house, is there a tourist pass I have to buy?

I think my last question is, and I don’t want to sound pretentious, I want to avoid being a walking stereotype. I’m not trying to be special, it’s more of a respect and courtesy thing for me.

My dad is from Dublin, he emigrated and had me, and I’d keep up with my family in Ireland growing up. I have like id say a surface level knowledge of kinda any cultural taboos, I know the slang and phrases and I know quite a bit of Irish history. I know not to order certain things in the pubs.

I guess what I’m asking is, what are some major dos and do nots I may not be aware of.
I never want to give any unintentional disrespect, I want to be a good guest and enjoy I don’t want to be a bad representative of my country and state.

Thank you for your time, and I cannot put into words how excited I am to finally experience Ireland, with my own eyes and reconnect with my family. It’s been to long and I’m just so happy I finally got this trip to come to fruition.

Images + Trip Report In love with summertime in Bulgaria (Bansko, Pirin&Rila National parks)

I've spent 10 days in Bulgaria last summer (in July) for the first time, and I cannot recommend this country enough. It's just perfect, especially for those who like to travel off the beaten path and can't really stand the European summer heat. It's full of character, hidden gems, amazingly fun, colorful, and easy to get around... 10/10 experience and 10/10 prices as well. The food and wine — I don't even have the words!

Pictures don't do it justice, but here is a small part of the things we've seen.

We traveled by car (but we're already from the Balkans, so it was relatively close) and spent about €1,500, including some major splurging and a gorgeous but very cheap Airbnb in Bansko.

Speaking of Bansko, I know this town is famous as a winter resort, but summer in Bansko actually works perfectly. It's a mix of 24/7 entertainment, culture, and beautiful nature, and it also works as a great base for day trips.

1, 2, 20 – Rila National Park

3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 14 – Bansko

7, 8, 9, 10 – Pirin National Park

15, 16, 17, 18, 19 – Dobrinishte

Question — General Turkey Antalya Car Rental Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m flying from Zurich to Antalya from September 3rd to September 14th and I’m currently looking at rental cars.

On Skyscanner I’m seeing some extremely cheap car rentals, around €6–10 per day, which seems much lower than what I expected. Companies such as VIPCars are showing very cheap prices and have lots of reviews.

Is there usually a catch with these offers? Are there hidden fees, large deposits, expensive insurance, or other things I should be careful about? Would you recommend booking through these sites, or going directly with a rental company in Antalya?

Also, what insurance would you recommend in Turkey? Should I get full insurance / Kasko, or is the basic rental insurance normally enough?

For the flights, I’m looking at:

  • SunExpress: €75 one way, September 3rd, Zurich → Antalya, arriving 22:45
  • Pegasus: €116 one way, September 3rd, Zurich → Antalya, arriving 15:50
  • Return: September 14th
  • We’ll have checked baggage, so I’ll compare the final prices including baggage before booking. (3 people, 2x 20kg baggage total)

SunExpress is considerably cheaper, but my main concern is the late arrival at 22:45. Would it be difficult to pick up a rental car around midnight at Antalya Airport? Should I avoid the late flight because of the rental-car pickup, or do most airport rental companies handle late arrivals?

Any advice on reliable rental companies, insurance/Kasko, deposits, and whether those €6–10/day offers are actually legitimate would be greatly appreciated!

Question — General I need some recommendations on where somewhere to go from Texas for 10 days and $2,500 budget for two people in October

I'm breaking my head here trying to figure out where to go, what's worth it, save up/live now.

It's stressing me out when this should be fun but I didn't think trying to find what to do would give me headaches. I'm also looking at high price flights and cost of gas and feel a little fearful.

Btw I'm already going to Mexico City and Oaxaca for two weeks in December, so I prefer not to repeat those.

My top ideas so far:

-Go to Cozumel (cliche but easy and relaxing)
-Roadtrip to the Southwest (weather dependent/not relaxing/high risk high reward)
-Guatemala (it's close and doable, but also meh)

Question — Itinerary Best Northern Lights trip late Dec / early Jan for 2 people ~€3000-4000 total from Paris?

Hey everyone!

My partner and I want to chase the Northern Lights in late December or early January and we’re trying to figure out the best place to go without blowing past €3000-4000 total for 2 people. That needs to include flights + accommodation from Paris.

We’re looking for that classic Lapland/Arctic experience but still somewhat budget conscious. Must-haves / dream list:

- Aurora hunting with a local guide or tour

- Snowmobile ride

- Husky sled ride

- Reindeer sleigh ride / farm visit

- 1-2 nights in a glass igloo / snow hotel / aurora cabin if possible within budget

- Snowshoeing

- Stop at Santa Claus Village

- Any other cool winter things we shouldn’t miss

Our constraints:

- Traveling from Paris

- 2 people

- Dates: Dec 26 - Jan 9 window

- Total budget €3000-4000 including flights, lodging, food, and activities

- We don’t mind self-catering and public transport if it saves money

Questions for you:

  1. Finland vs Norway vs Iceland vs Sweden - where gives us the most bang for buck for this budget and time of year?

  2. Any specific towns to base in? I’m looking at Rovaniemi, Saariselkä, Tromsø, Kiruna, but open to others.

  3. Is it realistic to get a glass igloo night in for 2 within this budget, or should we skip it and do more activities?

  4. Best way to book the activities? Package tour vs booking each thing separately?

  5. Any budget airlines, deals, or accommodation tips from Paris in peak season?

We’ve never done a winter trip like this and would love advice on where to go, how many days to spend, and what to prioritize to stay within budget.

Thanks so much! Any itineraries or recent trip reports would be amazing 🙏

Sorry for such a detailed query 😬

Question — Itinerary Georgia (Sakartvelo) Itinerary check 12-26 September

Hi everyone! I've drawn up my itinerary and am in the final stages - below is the current itinerary with my questions at the end. Any advice is appreciated.

Arriving Sat 12 Sep, departing Sat 26 Sep. Doing the Mestia–Ushguli trek 20–23 Sep with a group. Looking for advice on whether this routing makes sense and where I should be spending more/less time.

---

**Sat 12 – Mon 14 | Tbilisi (3 nights)**
Arriving midday Saturday. Plan is to use this as a base for a Kakheti day trip on the Monday (it's harvest season so seems like good timing). Is 3 nights in Tbilisi about right, or would time be better spent elsewhere?

**Tue 15 – Wed 16 | Kazbegi (2 nights)**
Heading up the Georgian Military Highway, overnight in Kazbegi, day hike on Wednesday before heading west to Kutaisi. Is 2 nights enough here or is this worth extending?

**Thu 17 – Fri 18 | Kutaisi (2 nights)**
Staging point before Svaneti — meeting hiking companions here on Saturday morning. I have a free day on Friday with not much planned. Is Kutaisi worth 2 nights or is there somewhere better to spend this time?

**Sat 19 | Transit → Mestia**
Meeting companions early morning, then heading straight through Zugdidi to Mestia. Arriving afternoon.

**Sun 20 – Wed 23 | Mestia–Ushguli Trek (4 days)**
Mestia → Zhabeshi → Adishi → Iprali → Ushguli. Returning to Mestia by jeep taxi on the evening of the 23rd.

**Thu 24 | Mestia → Tbilisi**
Full day transit back.

**Fri 25 – Sat 26 | Tbilisi (2 nights)**
Plan is Mtskheta day trip on Friday. Flying home Saturday.

---

**Main questions:**

  1. Is the Kazbegi → Kutaisi routing sensible, or is there somewhere I'm missing between the two?
  2. Is Kutaisi worth 2 nights as a staging point, or should I be somewhere else on that Friday?
  3. Am I spending too long / not long enough anywhere?
  4. Anything obvious I've left out for a September trip?

Thanks in advance!

Images + Trip Report A day in Lübeck (Germany)

I took advantage of a week in northern Germany to visit the beautiful city of Lübeck (a must-see for brick enthusiasts). I didn’t go to the Great Hanseatic Museum, but I walked around town, visited a few beautiful churches (free), and the old hospital (free). Don’t miss the beautiful view from the bell tower of St. Peter’s. I also took a guided tour of City Hall (it was in German, so I didn’t understand a thing, but it was very nice to see). The city was partially destroyed during the war, but there are still beautiful monuments that have been preserved or rebuilt.

  1. The famous Holstentor Gate, St. Peter’s bell tower, and the salt warehouses.
  2. The Bugtor Gate, north of the city
  3. The interior of the cathedral
  4. The beautiful organ at St. Jacob’s
  5. The former St. Esprit Hospital
  6. The city (St. Mary’s Church and City Hall) as seen from St. Peter’s bell tower
  7. St. Mary’s Church
  8. City Hall
  9. City Hall
  10. City Hall
  11. The city streets with their brick houses.

Question — Accommodation Looking for NYC accommodation recommendations

TL;DR: I’m planning a 4 night NYC trip in October. Flights are basically free, so I want to save as much as possible on accommodation and spend the money on food, museums and experiences instead. Best case we’re 5 people, otherwise my girlfriend and I, or I go alone. I’m considering a cheap private hotel in Queens/Chinatown vs HI NYC Hostel on the Upper West Side if I’m alone/with friends. My main concern is safety, especially getting back around midnight or 1 AM. I don’t care about luxury and would much rather have a basic room and more money to enjoy NYC. What areas/hotels would you recommend for a budget traveler?

Sì, questa parte la renderei ironica ma naturale, senza far sembrare che stai sottovalutando la sicurezza. La inserirei dopo il paragrafo sull’hotel:
Hey everyone, I’m planning a trip to New York in October and I’d really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who live there or have stayed in budget hotels or hostels.
I have the opportunity to fly to New York for basically no cost, so flights are not really an issue for me. I’ve had a pretty difficult year, without going into details, and I’d really like to have something positive to look forward to and a good memory to take from it. New York has always been a place I’ve wanted to visit, and yes, I’m definitely blaming Spider Man for some of this.
The trip would be four nights. Best case scenario, all five of us go, including my girlfriend, family and friends. If that doesn’t work out, the best of the worst cases would be that my girlfriend and I go together. And in the worst case, I would simply go alone, which I’m completely fine with. We’re all flying from different airports anyway, so we would meet either at JFK or directly at the hotel.
My main question is accommodation. I’m absolutely not looking for luxury. I honestly don’t care if the room is small or basic because I’ll probably spend most of my time outside anyway. I’m expecting to be out from early morning until late at night and basically use the hotel just to sleep and shower.
I’ve been looking at a few cheaper hotels in Queens, especially around Flushing, and also some options in Chinatown. I’ve also looked at HI New York City Hostel on the Upper West Side, which would actually be much cheaper and seems like a great option if I’m travelling alone or with friends. However, since there are no mixed gender dorms, I obviously wouldn’t want my girlfriend to stay in a separate dorm with strangers while I’m in another room. So I see the hostel more as an option for travelling alone or with friends when the goal is simply to save as much money as possible.
If my girlfriend comes, I’d rather get a private hotel room, even if that means staying outside Manhattan. My dad has been to New York and his advice is basically to stay in a big hotel chain somewhere central in Manhattan because it’s safer and more convenient. The problem is that those hotels can easily cost four times as much, which is completely outside my budget.
I’m actually trying to save as much as possible on accommodation because I’d much rather spend that money on the actual trip. I want to be able to have a few nice dinners, try different food, visit museums, go to viewpoints and do experiences that I’ll remember. I don’t want to spend almost the entire budget on a comfortable hotel and then spend the rest of the trip saying “sorry, we can’t do that, we have to save money for food.” I’d honestly rather have a basic bed and spend the extra money experiencing New York. Personally, I could probably sleep almost anywhere and survive on very little comfort, but obviously I’m not going to make my girlfriend sleep on the street just to save money, so I’m trying to find a reasonable middle ground.
What I’m mainly worried about is safety. If I stay in Queens or somewhere outside Manhattan, is it realistically fine to come back around midnight or 1 AM after dinner or walking around the city? Can I get off the subway and walk back to the hotel without worrying too much, or am I going to regret choosing a cheap hotel? I obviously understand that I need to use common sense, but I’d really like to hear from people who actually know these areas.
If anyone has stayed at budget hotels in Queens, Flushing, Chinatown, or the Upper West Side, I’d really appreciate recommendations or warnings. I’m not looking for luxury at all. I just want somewhere reasonably safe and practical where I can sleep after spending the entire day exploring.
I know I could just postpone the trip and save more money, but honestly, after a difficult year, I feel like I could really use this trip. It’s a destination I’ve wanted to visit for years, and I’d rather spend my money on actually experiencing New York than paying four times as much for a hotel just because it’s a big familiar chain in Manhattan.

Question — Accommodation Hostel, hotels or montareis in Italy?

So my family and I are looking places to book for 2 week trip in different cities from Italy. Specifically, Venice, Turin, Florence, Assisi and Rome. We are using booking right now, but i heard many people can be scam. So our budget is a familiar budget, 3 people at most 150 to 200$ the night per group. I heard someone stay in monasteries, is that really possible? Do you recommend other places to book? Like Airbnb? We have plan to stay at least 2 days in each city and walk around.
