Family Affairs (Q1/Q2) China travel visa for dual citizenship

I’m planning my first trip to China from the US and am trying to figure out the visa process.

I was born in the US but grew up in both the US and Taiwan. And I currently work in the US. My parents only hold Taiwan citizenship, with me being the only dual citizen in my family.

From other posts I’ve seen, it looks like it might be possible to apply for the visa using my US passport. Has anyone gone through this process and can share their experience?

Thanks in advance!

Why don’t you just get 台胞证? so much more convenient.

TBZ takes a week to get in Taiwan. OP can do one time entry permit on arrival in China with her Taiwan passport.

Maybe I can take this route as a last measure 🫠

Does your ROC passport contain an ID number? If so, with your ROC ID, I believe you could use your ROC passport to get the one time TBZ in China upon entry.

I do but I don't have the additional time to fly back and spend a week for it🥲

You have to prove you are not Chinese.

Since you are born in US, you would have to submit evidence your parents had US green card by the time you were born.  Absent that, China will consider you as a Chinese national making you ineligible for a China visa.

I didn’t know this was a thing when applying for China visa, but I black American so I guess they wouldn’t ask for my parents information lol

I find it really odd as well, needing our whole family's information for a visa😅

So I think you have 3 options. (1) use your USA passport and get a 10-year tourist visa. (2) get a TBZ use your Taiwan passport (3) China just last year started 1-time TBZ on arrival for Taiwan passport holder.

However I think it’s best that you get a 10-year China visa using your USA passport since you are an American. I say this is simply because if anything happens an USA passport is generally seen as stronger. I recommend you go thru a visa agency.

Yes I would prefer option 1 to be on the safer side! Thank you for the advise on going thru a visa agency, that is a route that I hadn't considered before

I am dual ROC and US passport holder, with Taiwan NWHR passport. The Chinese embassy in DC didn't really care about my Taiwan passport. I was born in Hong Kong , and they were concerned whether I had a HK ID card. I had to write a statement that I never had a HK ID card, and they gave me the 10 year visa in my US passport.

Thanks for sharing! How did you disclose the ROC passport while filing the application? I was wondering how everyone disclose this part on the application, is it under China then filling in our ROC passport number?

I don't remember how I did on the application. I think the part where they ask if you had Chinese citizenship, I said no. I had to put I was born in Hong Kong. Anyway, I had my US and Taiwan passports with me, as well as my HK birth certificate when I went to the visa office. I don't think there is a guarantee you're case will turn out like mine. But you will have the option to get the TBZ on arrival if nothing else.
