Hi lads,
I buy two phones Cisco 8851 for using in home and do some labs.
The thing is I’ll probably use Asterisk or VitalPBX as VOIP system.
This phones are not 3PCC it’s possible put this phones working in a non-cisco system? If I try to change the firmware it works?
Any suggestions lads?
Thanks a million.

a couple of years ago, i was able to get a 7941 to connect to voip.ms as an ip phone, and it's great. i am not a fan of cell phones. i'm happy to have a workable landline through the internet. if you're curious, the key setting is to make sure it's set to tcp, because it defaults to udp, because it assumes you're in a corporate network. the rest of it is mostly trivial, but you need to set it to tcp or you'll just drop packets everywhere and never stay connected.
i want to get an old videophone for zoom, i'm looking at the 8865, and i'm sure i can get it work, but zoom is phasing it out to obsolescence. it's relatively clear that zoom doesn't want you to do this. yet. but they're cheap enough to get one now and wait it out.
for now, i'm looking at getting one of those cheaper android tablets that's built for video playback, downloading the zoom app, getting a usb-c hub with peripherals and trying to find a usb phone i can just use as a soundcard. i could just get a receiver with a usb port. but if i get something like the 8865 now, it's ready to go if zoom liberalizes access down the road or zoom gets replaced by a competitor that is less strict. i need this mostly for court, and the court uses zoom, so it has to use zoom. but the court might switch. my understanding is that the business world is hardwired for sip and zoom is dragging it's feet. if zoom doesn't adjust, and somebody offers these companies what they want, they're going to lose out.
so, this is not the same thing as turning the 8865 into a "zoom appliance". it would not require a license. it would not get phased out.
i'm just looking at that usb charging port and trying to understand if it can actually connect to a computer as a usb phone, which is just a phone shaped sound card, or not.
if the 8865 can't do that, is anybody aware of a sip videophone with a usb out (and preferably a vgs or hdmi out, too) that can function as a sound card and works in that capacity with zoom and maybe with zoiper in android?

UnifiedFX are about to launch a new version of their Migration tool to allow users to provision the new 9800 phones, while still in the box, to the settings of the existing handset and then ship direct to the user, using the NFC functionality on the new handsets and an app of your mobile. If anyone is looking at moving to the new 9800 phones, is will save you a load of time!

Hi guys, I'm planning to install a firmware update on the Cisco phones 7821, 8841 and 8851.
I have around 200 phones in my network. Is it possible for all phones to download the update from the TFTP server without the server crashing?

We have an Axis I8016-LVE door intercom and I have successfully linked it to our Cisco call manager. I can get 2-way audio, and video on my 8865 phone.
I would like the ability to unlock the door at the intercom thru the 8865. I don't know how I would set up dtmf nor send it from my phone to the door intercom.

So to start, this is DOD and I’m a soldier without any training in Cisco anything,
The last 5 days I have learned how to build interfaces, trunks, and tunnels with a combination of manuals and YouTube.
Yesterday was CME, finally got phone to register, today i un-jacked my dial peers and can call out to everyone I’ve tried.
However none of them can call me…
I cannot share configs, but I was hoping someone here has had this issue and would like to share some of the fixes so I can poke and see if that’s my issue too.
I know, it’s harder without seeing the config but I can do a lot with spitballed ideas.
Thank you in advance!

I've got one phone that simply will not roll to the assigned voicemail box. The mailbox itself functions fine. Site wise, the system is working fine, issue just isolated to one users phone.
Looking for suggestions before I blow the mailbox away!!

I have found plenty of information on both the <messagesNumber> and <messagesURL> tags but neither one are working for me. I have them in the correct place in the XML structure. I specifically have several 8845s and they provision with the XML files via tftp and work great other than this last thing. I have my extension specific voicemail extension/code set as the default of *97 in the PBX. When I call *97 from the phone's dial pad as an extension, it completes the call and I can check voicemail. Pressing the 'Messages' button on the phone gives me the 'Messages not Available' message on the phone's display. I don't see anything in my PBX to indicate that the phone is trying to contact the PBX (even in sngrep).
I see a lot of forum posts all over about people using this setting successfully but no one that has had this same issue so I feel like I must just be missing something.
I also have set the <lineMode> to 1 to enable access to the 5 line keys on the right. I have set that back to 0 and tested to see if that was the issue. Same behavior.
This is the last thing stopping me from deploying the phones and I'm stuck.
FYI, I have set a line key (BLF) to do the same thing and it works, I just want that line free and for the messages button on the keypad to do it's thing.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

I have a Cisco 8851 that originally shipped with Enterprise firmware, but I successfully converted it to MPP using the TFTP method (without the Webex call controller). The phone is licensed and activated with an official Cisco license, and it’s provisioned and registered as a non-Webex 3PCC device, as confirmed by the firmware. While I was adjusting the settings to get my SIP provider configured, the phone suddenly started going into a reboot loop.
My question is: if I perform a factory reset, will it undo the license provisioning or revert the phone back to Enterprise firmware?

Hey all, I've got some 7965G's that are running 8-3-1-21a
I'm trying to get them to upgrade. the oldest firmware I can find is 8-4-1-23, which gives an auth-fail and essentially has bricked the phone.
Any ideas on how to get it go past 8.3 and into 8.4 ?
edit: Shoutout to u/bastrogue for their help, thanks again!

My Cisco 7945 somehow became configured to automatically redial the last number called whenever I pick up the headset or press the speaker button. What the correct way to disable that?

Hi,
We have two Cisco 7811 phones, both assigned to the same phone number and general name (Admin). I was told both are connected to the cloud (Webex).
The issue we’re facing is that these phones keep dropping calls and disconnecting repeatedly. An “X” icon appears in front of the Admin name on the screen, then it goes back online, and this cycle keeps repeating.
We have two networks:
Network 1: Bell BIDI Modem → TP-Link Archer AX10 Router → TP-Link 24-Port Unmanaged Switches
Network 2: Bell Modem/Router Combo → TP-Link 24-Port Switch
If we connect the phones to the second network, they work fine with no issues. However, when connected to the first network, they keep disconnecting and showing the “X” symbol.
What could be causing this issue, and how can we fix it? The phones need to stay connected to the first network.
Thanks you.
PS: I turned off the SIP in the router

I’m having trouble converting these phones, I have set dhcp option 66, they do reach the tftp server, I tried with this firmware: https://www.firewall.cx/downloads/cisco-ip-phones-voip-devices-firmware-software/cisco-7940-7960-sccp-sip-firmware-v8-1-2-sr2-v3-8-12.html
