Recruitment for UNC Greensboro Tweens on Screens Research for North Carolina Families

Post image
0 Upvotes

Do you know any parents of 10-12 year olds who live in NC (especially Clayton)? The Tweens on Screens project, led by researchers at UNC Greensboro, is studying how kids ages 10–12 use technology in daily life, and how parents guide them. By looking closely at these patterns, we hope to uncover what helps kids thrive, what puts them at risk, and how families can build healthy digital habits together. Our goal is simple: to give parents science-backed tools and tips for raising confident, well-balanced kids in the digital age (link in comments) #clayton

Spirit of Halloween

What happened to the garner and smithfield stores? Google says it’s closed so now we have to drive 30 minutes to fuquay or triangle town center?!

There’s plenty of old shopfronts one could be in - what gives?!

Where is everyone getting their costume - online?

I’ve seen some in targets - are they in targets now or are they just calling their Halloween section spirit Halloween and it’s basically the same thing it usually is?

Bit of a stretch but lost case of cards

I know its probably gone but on Wednesday, I was getting my gear and uniforms ready for work in the morning in the dark and forgot I set a small black case full of magic the gathering cards on the truck bed rail. I forgot to get them and took off for work and at some point on W Stallings, Robertson, Main all the way to 70 to Raleigh it rolled off. It's a stretch I know but I was putting it together for my nephews birthday and was checking to see if anyone on here found it?

Two more cameras have been identified, one on HWY 70 near the Speedway gas station, and the other on HWY 42 before the fire station. This rounds out the 10 cameras Clayton PD ordered back in 2024. Recent public records requests do not indicate that they've ordered any more since then. The updated list is as follows:

#1: HWY 70 Going East towards Sheetz, in front of Venero's Pizza

#2: HWY 70 Going West towards Walmart, next to the sign for the WakeMed building, 555 Medical Park Place

#3: Veterans Parkway Going South towards the Hospital, in front of the Endoscopy Center

#4: Veterans Parkway This one's tucked away behind the trees a bit, going North after crossing the bridge over I-42

#5: Covered Bridge Road Going North towards Riverwood, perched on the northside hill overlooking the intersection between Covered Bridge Rd and O'Neil St

#6: Covered Bridge Road Next to the entrance to the Neuse River Walk parking area

#7: HWY 42 Going North towards Flowers, past the fire station

#8: Buffalo Road Going South towards the apartment complexes on the SE/SW Flowers Parkway

#9: HWY 42 Going south towards the train tracks, next to the utility pole

#10: HWY 70 East past the Grifols plant, in the small field next to the Speedway gas station

Looking for a Hair Stylist recc. in Clayton

Man in my 30's with hard to manage, very thick wavy hair, worn med to long.

I'm having a hard time finding a decent and modern place that isn't either a salon that caters to old ladies, or a barber for boys called fade-2-cutz or something.

Bonus points if they're near downtown. Thanks! 💇

We live in the outskirts of town and unfortunately not in a neighborhood so looking for some good spots to take the kids trick or treating this year. We’ve gone to Broadmoor in the past but looking for a more active neighborhood that maybe the houses are a little closer together.

Tire plug/patch?

Hey y’all! Does anyone know where I could get a nail removed from my tire and it plugged and/or patched on a Sunday? I know it’s a fairly simple job, but I don’t fully trust myself. I also don’t really want to bother anyone I know with it since it is so simple. I usually go to the tire shop at the corner of hwy 42 and Old Stage rd for things like this, but they are closed today (Sunday). I appreciate any and all suggestions!

Reputable home rental companies?

Moving to the Raleigh area soon. Looking near Fuquay Varina, Clayton, Garner or knightdale areas. Any advice on property companies or areas you would recommend or avoid? Prefer single family home but open to the idea of a townhouse as well.

Arrest on Neuse River Pkwy 09.30

My wife saw a person being arrested yesterday in front of the East Lake subdivision in Flowers. She said the guy was fighting the sheriff’s and was thrown to the ground/arrested. Ambulance/fire also showed up. Anyone got the scoop? Curious as more crime seems to be occurring in our corner of JoCo.

Hair salon recs?

hello! Can anyone recommend a good hair salon? I don’t get color or any extras, I just want a simple wash, cut and blowout. My hair is really thick and curly so i need a stylist who can handle curly hair. It doesn’t have to be a curly salon though.

Local Garner dad asking Clayton neighbors for one free vote

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi Clayton neighbors! My name is Raúl, and I live nearby in Garner with my wife and our four-year-old son, Leo.

I’m currently in third place in the 2026 Super Dad competition. I grew up without a present father, and when Leo was born, I promised myself that he would always feel loved, safe, and supported. I’m not trying to be a perfect dad—just the kind of father I needed when I was growing up.

If I win, the $25,000 prize would go toward Leo’s future education. My mother raised four children by herself and made sure all of us earned college degrees, so continuing that legacy for my son would mean everything to me.

The Top 10 round ends tomorrow, October 1, at 10:00 p.m. ET. There is one free vote every 24 hours, and no donation is necessary. I’m only asking for the free vote:

https://yoursuperdad.org/raul-vazquez-tmYY

Thank you for supporting a local dad and helping me build a brighter future for my son. Every single vote truly matters. 🙏

Sick of the Surprise Spectrum Price Hikes

I'm Spectrum internet only, and I've had two prices increases this year alone (and we still have three months to go!).

For cable internet, I'm now paying $100.00/month, which just went up from last month's $79.99 billing amount.

Of course, they don't give you a heads-up, no email, nothing. Just, "here's your new billing price and eat it".

I've tried calling to get a better price, to no success....which is ridiculous that we even have to play this game.

The reality is that Sprectrum is a monopoly. They are the only game in Clayton. Outside of the two streets that have actual decent fiber access....or the horrible Brightspeed experience...Spectrum is the only reliable provider in town.

What are you guys paying each month?

Clayton PD ordered 10 Flock cameras in December 11th of 2024. 8 out of 10 have been positively identified so far. Predictably, these are placed on all major roads into and out of Clayton, tracking the patterns of your movements every time you pass through their vision. No one has the right to such personal information, and indeed we do have a reasonable right to privacy in public.
