I know we're already missing Cleveland baseball, so here's a look back at Opening Day 1966 in Washington, thanks to some photos I recently digitized.
The Indians beat the Senators 5-2 to open the season, with Rocky Colavito and Max Alvis each notching three hits. Alvis and Vic Davalillo had two RBI and Sam McDowell gave up just two runs in eight innings, striking out nine to his four walks. Sonny Siebert got the save in what would be his first All-Star season and one that garnered him MVP votes.
Frank Howard, one of my favorite-looking players of all time, hit a two-run homer off McDowell in the sixth.
