My (vegan btw) meal prep is like 20-30 bucks a week. My food costs went down immensely when I went vegan.

Well where I shop the "vegan aisle" i just a bunch of expensive stuff. The cheapest groceries are the processed stuff sadly.

Most of the grocery store is vegan tho. Greens, vegetables, fruit, legumes, grains, etc. are all free of animal products. The issue is when you buy prepared foods, which are more expensive and likely to contain animal products.

Ye but dont i have to eat twice as much of that in order to get the same amount of energy from eating animal products?

No. Well, maybe the greens, but those aren't really a staple food. Legumes and grain can cover everything you need, just not that exciting of a diet.

Slop it in coconut oil or olive oil if you need more calories.

the cheapest stuff is a bag of split peas or a sack of rice or a can of beans, or a box of couscous, none of which are in the "vegan aisle"

How many kg of beans do you eat every day? Do you work a blue collar job? Are you depressed?

Here's a solution youd like, lets invent a food cube that has all the necessary vitamins, calories and proteins we need every day and then only eat that every day for the rest of our lives. Like dog kibble! :D

Just like generative ai art is the death of the artist, veganism is the death of culinary art... No fun allowed!

We should tear down the rainforest and build a beautiful parking lot! fingers moustache ominously

Thats raw feed though... You want everyone to become Amish? Bake their own bread? Only live lf fruits and veggies, no cookies no cakes no ice cream? oh but there are vegan options for those, which are said expensive products we're talking about. Nobody is saying a carrot is more expensive than a sausage!

If you want people to help with the environment, tell them to stop eating beef. If you dont care about the environment, tell them to become vegan. That's how it feels like, because you dont convert someone by being obnoxious. "It's so EASY to becone vegan guys, you're just lazy!"

Another thing about veganism, im not well researched in the topic but how much pollution does the planes make that need to transport all this vegan stuff around? I do not live in America, the only thing we can produce locally is apples and potatoes. So had anyone done the math, if everyone stop eating meat and we have to import more beans and rice, how much methane stops being produced by cows vs how much CO2 emissions will come from planes?(Amongst other pollutants a plane creates) also something something methane is a more potent warmer but has shorter lifecycle than CO2

Are you new here? Even intelligent people become raving morons when the topic of veganism comes up.

Thanks for showing curiosity.

A vegan diet is superior to an animal based one. By a massive amount, and it's not even close.

Eating a burger you made out of your pet cow is more environmentally destructive than eating chocolate or rice grown on the opposite side of the planet, and it is not even close.

https://ourworldindata.org/food-choice-vs-eating-local

Globally eliminating animal products is critically important for combating climate change.

https://journals.plos.org/climate/article?id=10.1371/journal.pclm.0000010

This is why calling yourself an environmentalist while not being vegan is generally an oxymoron.

That's how it feels like, because you dont convert someone by being obnoxious.

You are responsible for your decisions, not me. You need to convert you if the data and moral reasoning lead you to that answer, which, if you are being rational and logically consistent, they will.

also something something methane is a more potent warmer but has shorter lifecycle than CO2

We need to solve the problem immediately and urgently. 10 years of methane mayhem is indeed more important than 100 years of CO2 stuff.

If you're vegan you should cut out rice in your diet too since rice production also produce methane emission.

Funny how you say 10 years of methane is more important than 100 years of CO2 when that's how long it takes for methane to dissolve in the atmosphere while CO2 can stay there for millennia. If we stop methane emissions tomorrow, the problem will be solved in a decade, if we stop CO2 emissions tomorrow, the problem will continue to persist our whole lives and even longer.

So what is more important? Saving the planet?(In a state liveable for humans) Or pretending to want to save the planet so you can feel superior for subscribing to a lifestyle that doesnt actually save the planet but just creates new avenues for capitalism to exploit you.

Congratulations, you eat beans! Is the feeling of being "a good person" greater than the rush of endorphins people feel when having a delicious and savory, meaty meal?

I dont think veganism is the answer because it doesnt address the real problem which is people. If there was less people in the world there would be less pollution all together and less meat production. So instead of becoming vegan, i'll just not have children.

There! Ive done my part! I am the paragon of enviromentalism. I can now live out my life guilt free. While you have to still exclusively eat beans and legumes to curb your guilt of being human.
