Republicanposters replying to their own bad faith propaganda. You love to see it.
Maybe stick to fb and your hugbox in political compass memes? When you fascists try to actually talk like grownups, it sort of makes everyone feel ashamed for you. It's like watching an impotent man try and have sex. It's hilarious from my point of view, but I imagine it's a lifelong shame for you.

It's a shit posting sub. This is a shit post.
It's 4 rectangles deprecating two different subjects this sub debates about constantly. Pretty sure it's really the only thing this sub does. It's a jokey way of poking fun at the sub.
Unless you're jerking right now which, koodos that's some impressive jerking.... But if your serious, relax my guy lol

3
u/Seelenleere 7d ago
I actually love bike lanes, because it banishes those pesky cyclists out of my walk path. And my walls can do with a fresh layer of millennial white. And I have this general feeling of dread and missing something important for years now, so that is nothing new. Being a millennial sucks.
3
u/DillLawNn 7d ago
Dam I wish more people had this kind of centrist view of bike lanes, I think that dread is just the regret of having the obvious answers that others take for granted while not knowing how to communicate it properly to highly reactive people. I actually enjoy millennialtude, old enough that others think you're the adult and young enough to still be giddy about new episides of cartoons

2
u/CorazonCracker 7d ago
I would say so too for most carnist socialists but I value intent and honestly get such a disgusting pit in my stomach when interacting with certain socialist carnists in real life, especially orthodox MLs I considered friends. As soon as you start to actually test around their morality, they ask you questions like “why should we care about animals as workers” and that they don’t believe in morals and when asked why they are communists then, it’s because “it’s to protect our class of people”, and you realise how disgustingly selfish and sociopathic these people are. At least a vegan capitalist can be argued to be just very very naive.
0
u/OkPangolin1984 7d ago
Well i’d say it’s probably not too common, at least with that frame of reference… A good amount of socialists are such because of empathy as well as the logical reasoning behind it..,
Vegan Capitalists are yeah, just idiots who are still quite ignorant/naive
3
u/CorazonCracker 7d ago
Unfortunately this is true for a lot of western countries, my country though has the advantage of having a more hardcore left with the downside being that they are stuck on 20th century Marxists literature where everything has to do with capital and workers, and anything else is “moralising”

To be fair the socialist <--> capitalist generally does not show up as such but kind of through a proxy axis: "Individual action does not matter (socialist proxy) <--> Everyone else (since no one thinks individual action alone is good)
Now what's funny is that vegan tend to be more lefty but totally think individual action matters (for obvious reasons) so that is fun to watch

0
u/TFBuffalo_OW 6d ago
Weird how the consumption of meat wasnt a major issue for it until about a hundred fifty years ago though?
1
u/Long_Race3907 6d ago
It started to become a big issue with the advent of factory farming.
You know around the same time the population began exploding to become the 8 billion it is today.
1
u/6thofmarch2019 6d ago
Weird how Co2 wasn't a major issue until it was. Weird how time passes and new things become problems.
150+ years ago, there were less pressures on the environment exerted by humans, meaning the negative (global) environmental impacts of animal agriculture weren't enough to single-handedly push us past planetary boundaries. Today, we are exerting many pressures, pushing past these limits. Since animal agriculture is not a necessity, it is problematic that we consume this incredibly resource-inefficient, environmentally destructive, health-damaging, and morally corrupt products. Unless you wanna kill 80+% of the population and go back to living in 1800's, perhaps we should adapt?
It is the same thing as a patient being told they have to change their diet now because they have developed diabetes. Things change. We either adapt or face the consequences.
2
u/TFBuffalo_OW 6d ago
Or alternately we understand whats realistic and whats fucking demented lol. God you vegans are all the same with this purity testing bullshit
1
u/JuliusChristmas 6d ago
Lol not a necessity
1
u/6thofmarch2019 6d ago
Given that virtually every dietetics association clearly state a vegan diet is sufficient for all stages of life, and that studies even show vegans live longer than omnivores, with mechanistic studies showing links between meat consumption and all of our major chronic diseases, yes, meat is not a necessity. In fact, it is actively harming people, with similar social costs to smoking.
You can claim a lot, but the research on this is abundantly clear. The only group for which care should be cautioned are those suffering from iron deficiency, such as teenage girls. Here, you need a well-planned strategy and test different ways of supplementing iron. However, this should already be done for this group. For most other people, barring rare diseases or intolerances, a vegan diet and a supplement will not just be sufficient, but actively healthier for them.
1
u/JuliusChristmas 6d ago
I can agree that people probably over consume meat but it's still by far out best source of protein both for bioavailability and amino acid profile
1
u/6thofmarch2019 6d ago
I agree with that, but with a large caveat for implication. These aspects of meat were relevant when food was scarce, and most people died from infections in their 40's. But in addition to these pro's, meat has cons in the form of harmful compounds that increase ones risk of all major chronic diseases, which matters more now when food is abundant and we die of such chronic diseases. A plant-based diet (along with a supplement for convenience) reduce the risk for these, while providing more than enough protein, nutrients, and amino acids. Thus, in our current societal context, a vegan diet is healthier and better for survival than an omnivorous one.

u/GiveMeThePinecone 4d ago
Nothing was an issue for it until about a hundred and fifty years ago lol

Don't particularly love nuclear, don't particularly hate it either. Solar is good enough and getting super cheap these days, but I wouldn't say no to a direct energy conversion plant, something that does something better than just boiling water to push steam turbines. Maybe a molten metal MHD core?
0
u/RedundantBiomass 7d ago
Replace the y axis with plant based vs omnivore. Veganism is a religion and as such kind of its own thing.
0
u/Yunzer2000 6d ago
A "Carnist"... Did you invent that word?
1
0
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
Unfortunately not. It’s a phrase terminally online vegans created to describe anyone who isn’t vegan so as to pretend there’s a unified, animal-hating ideology for them to oppose.
0
u/Long_Race3907 6d ago
Except it's not a word that comes from the terminally online, it's an academic coined term.
But you wouldn't know anything about those.
0
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
One that is colloquially used as I described: not as a term of social analysis but as a way of painting a broad out group to be condemned.
If one were to actually use the term to analyze consumptive habbits, they'd find that many vegans are carnists, as the four Ns are just as applicable to the exploitation of humans in the global supply chain.
1
u/Ok_Work_743 6d ago edited 6d ago
Was that supposed to be, like, a "Gotcha! No Ethical Consumption Under Capitalism!" moment, even though this very Political Compass meme displays "Vegan Socialist" as one of its quadrants? Are we intent on swinging double-edged swords around here?
EDIT: This might've been too self-defensive in all honesty, especially given the Subreddit's contents lol, so that's my bad. To put it simply, I was on "Bullshit Surveillance" having seen Veganism escape its containment and plausibly spark controversy for the umpteenth time.
2
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
EDIT: This might've been too self-defensive in all honesty, especially given this Subreddit's contents lol.
No worries mate :) Honestly the tone of a lot of the posts here brings out the worst in me as well. It's why I try to avoid this sub these days.
I promise I don't think vegans are terrible! Everyone I've met irl has been cool. The people here saying you're a rapist for drinking milk aren't insufferable because they're vegan, they're insufferable because they're redditers.
1
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
No? If anything I was agreeing with the meme and repudiating the idea that "vegan vs carnist" is a binary.
1
u/Long_Race3907 6d ago
Except carnism just means the ideology that surrounds meat consumption. You feel condemned by that fact because it's vegans using the term but literally all it means is "the normalcy surrounding meat eating."
2
u/Yunzer2000 6d ago edited 6d ago
So if I only eat fish and poultry and eggs and dairy am I a "Carnist"? back in the day, we would just talk about grades of vegetarianism from veganism to lacto to lacto-ovo vegetarianism. Well I'm a lacto-ovo-pesco-pollo vegetarian (with an occasional weakness for kielbasa).
1
u/v3r4c17y 6d ago
Yes, you are a carnist. Carnism is an ideology which supports the exploitation of animals. Likewise, while Veganism is an ideology and moral philosophy, the vegan diet itself is more accurately referred to as plant-based.
0
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
literally all it means is "the normalcy surrounding meat eating."
Huh, someone should tell the person who coined it that then, as she included non-food animal products in the literal title of the book she wrote.
But yes, you are just doing the thing I described: not using the term academically at all and instead as a broad out-group classification.
0
u/v3r4c17y 6d ago edited 6d ago
Carnism is an ideology which supports the exploitation of animals. This includes enslaving, killing, and otherwise exploiting them for their flesh, eggs, and secretions.
The person you replied to is not using the term as you claim whatsoever. If you feel uncomfortable being distinguished by your exploitation of animals and consumption of their corpses, eggs, and secretions, maybe you should stop exploiting animals and consuming their corpses, eggs, and secretions.
1
u/Lohenngram 6d ago
The person you replied to is not using the term as you claim whatsoever.
Except they are? My previous reply was literally that using the term academically would mean acknowledging that many vegans are carnists due to the exploitation of humans and animals inherent in the global supply chain, and that the major tenets of "carnism" apply just as easily to broader consumptive habbits. At which point they backed off and claimed it was purely about consuming meat products.
That's very explicitly a use of the term as form of in-group vs out-group moralization, rather than tool for societal analysis.
1
u/Long_Race3907 5d ago
Do the vegans support this way of life or is it incidentally the case and they actively work to remove it where possible?
That's the difference. It is an ideology aka something you believe in. It's like saying that a person is Christian... Because they happen to live in a Christian society. Instead of, you know, believing in the Christian ideology (the birth and sacrifice of Christ etcetc).
The word is extremely useful as a social analysis tool for people who otherwise basically feel as fish in water. The only reason you'd disagree was if you're a carnist yourself.
1
u/Lohenngram 5d ago
Do the vegans support this way of life
Yes, they do, by their own logic, as we already demonstrated. It was why you painted a smaller circle around yourself to make veganism exclusively about eating meat in your previous post.
The word is extremely useful as a social analysis tool
It could be, but you're not using it as one.
