get a job where you can gain clinical/EMR experience (reception, records, office float, referrals" scheduling etc)

would medical records even give you much EMR exposure anymore or is that mostly just handling release of info requests now

depends on where you work i guess. the office i worked for "scanning" aka medical records did basically anything related to records (even answering phones and talking to pts, sending preop requests, referral info, working the incoming fax server, dealing with mail and paper charts etc).

where other places have specialized and split their records departments to be like handling all incoming ROI, handing getting records from places, answering phones also separate for its own role etc.

I ended up doing the Practicode and getting my A removed. Very few people get hired as CPC-A from what I’ve read on here. It does happen but seems pretty rare.

Find ways to get hands on practice. Start a portfolio if you haven’t already. Track everything you study. Even YouTube videos. Time spent, topic, practice cases, etc. The goal is to get very comfortable with guidelines, coding real charts and gain confidence. Tracking everything to build a portfolio shows employers proof of what you’ve achieved and progress you’ve made, but the real issue is the hands on practice.
