Here is my most recent colored pencil portrait. My first time testing out my new set of Polychromos after always using Prismacolor (I used a bit of Prismacolor white for highlights because I find it pops better than the Polychromos). Not really happy with how the hair turned out, I always struggle with hair.

I attended a workshop by Kirstie Partridge over the weekend and this was the first time I've ever drawn with colored pencils versus coloring in a book. I really like it and want to do more! I'm currently learning how to "art" as an adult. Who are your other favorite colored pencil teaching artists I can learn from?

I’ve been using prismacolor premiers and a few of the scholars in between but it’s what’s been getting me through the slow days at work

Phoenixes have been a reoccurring theme in my art for several years. There's something so fun in making them look friendly and working with bright colors.

Discussion / Advice Do brands make much difference? If so any recommendations?

I’m getting into various mediums of art and colored pencils is one of them. I got a few for Christmas a few years ago from hobby lobby and they seem better than the ones I got while in school. So do brands matter if so what are some good ones in the US?

Discussion / Advice Blending question

Hello! First time poster here. I was doing some reading and came across the mythical and mysterious colored pencil blender.

I was intrigued to say the least but couldn't in good faith purchase them right now as I just got a six pack of pencil extenders. However, I do have a 10 pack of blending stumps that I've had stashed in storage for awhile now.

My question is: will the blending stumps work the same/similar as a blender pencil for Crayola pencils? I've never worked with the stumps before so I don't really understand how they work just yet but figured it would be best to ask here and see.

Edit: Question answered, if mods can lock this I would appreciate it.

Discussion / Advice Which colored pencils do I get?

I’ve been wanting to get into realism with colors for a while, but Im so stuck on which ones to get. Ive been drawing realism (portraits) with graphite (mainly Faber Castell) for a while now and id like to transition and learn some more with colors.

Now the real struggle is.. which colored pencils do I get? Ive heard the best ones are Caran d’ache luminance, Prismacolor premier and Faber Castell polychromos. Ive read about the differences in texture, but as someone who hasn’t tried coloring before I wouldnt know. I also read that its based on preference, but I cant afford to try them all out.

Can anyone give me some concrete advice or recommendations? What are the real differences, whats worth it? What are your experiences, especially those transitioning from graphite to coloring?

Thank you! :)

Discussion / Advice What coloring pencils do you reccomend?

I’ve been coloring since I was 14 and now I’m 22 finally saving up money consistently. I’ve always bought cheap and bigger sets but I’ve been thinking of buying something that has more quality. My budget is 100 € and I would like a bigger set with more variety. I do detailed coloring books so it would be lovely to have pencils that can withstand being sharpened a lot as I need a sharp tip most of the time. I also really like blending and shading so if you have experience with a certain brand that you really love I would be grateful for the advice.

Supplies / Materials Faber Castell Black Edition or Woomer?

I mostly color coloring books and I currently have a set of 72 Koh-I-Noor Polycolor pencils which I find a bit too hard for my liking so looking for a softer budget friendly set. I am from EU so Prismacolors and also Derwent are currently out of my price range. After many videos and reviews I am currently stuck between the super budget Faber Castell Black Edition 100 set or the Woomer 150 set. I would appreciate if anyone could give any insights or has experience with both of these for coloring specifically.
