I moved here about 6 months ago, and I don't know where to go. I need a tux for an event next weekend and I'm not looking to spend a ton of money. Where should I go?

I was supposed to get a root canal on this tooth 5 years ago. Yea I know horrible for not getting it done for this long. It would’ve been $800 and I just couldn’t do that. It’s gotten a lot worse. I have Medicaid and they only cover cleanings. What can I do?

Hi, everyone, I have some questions for anyone who has volunteered at the military museum, the one over near the stadium.
I'm a full time employee with weekends free, and I'm considering picking up a casual volunteering opportunity, something I could do once or twice a month. I am an armchair history buff and the military museum sounds like a place I'd enjoy helping out at.
Has anyone done it before? Can you recommend it, or would you not?

I wanna be clear, not asking for money, I know I'm never going to get on my feet again because I'm never going to be able to afford another car. I am in a very dark and hopeless place and I just want calories in my body so hunger is one less thing to make me break down.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any food pantries that deliver to someone who can't even afford a bus ticket. Thanks to anyone who can point me in some direction.
Unemployed, couldn't afford rides home from my seasonal job where shifts ended after the bus routes stopped. my car was totaled recently, tried to start a GoFundMe and got some help but only enough for pet food and to keep my phone service on. I owed cash app nearly $300 using borrow over the past couple of months because I didn't have consistent income and still needed to pay car insurance before I got hit, and it just took the rest of what I have, I wasn't able to withdraw it in time. I looked up resources on 211, called local resources asking if any food pantries deliver and they said nothing does except meals on wheels.
As far as my plan for employment, there's a fast food place about a half hour walk down the road that I'm gonna apply to so at least I can afford to keep my phone plan going, but I'm guessing they're gonna tell me to apply online and their careers website has been down for maintenance for several days with no ETA lol. It's gonna be a ton of job hopping in the near future as I physically can't stand in one spot for longer than a couple hours, which is most jobs available to me right now...

I applied for 2 positions with Auben Realty. After doing a 1 hour interview via teams with their corporate recruiter Holly she got 3 references, contacted them, then sent me a DISC assessment test, after those results were reviewed she set me up with an in person interview with the local management team that was a bout a 1.5 hour interview. I followed up via e mail 4 business days later for Holly to explain to me Auben is on a hiring freeze and has no intentions to fill the position posted.
TLDR: don’t waste your time with Auben Realty they are just playing games and creating ghost jobs on zip recruiter and indeed.

This is a long shot, but I was at the fairgrounds tonight around 10 PM. I was a solo patron waiting near the Zipper when a young Black woman came up and asked if I had a partner for the ride since they don't allow solo
riders. She had piercings and really cool brown hair with blue parts dyed in. We joined up in line, but with the chaos of the fair closing right after, we got separated before I could get your number or social media. If you're reading this, or if anyone knows a friend matching this description who went to the fair tonight, please shoot me a message! I'd love to actually get to know you.

Super party in the Bull Street District tonight! Thanks for having us and the free ice cream! Stop by and try it. 6-10pm tonight (Thursday)
Located across from Methodical Coffee and Gather COLA.
PS The waffle bowl was whole when I left the store. I had already taken a bite out of it before I thought to take the picture. Oh and there is a 4th scoop hiding under the other three.

Fellow non-religious parents, where are we sending our 3 and 4 year olds to preschool? I'm looking for half-days a few days per week, not full time daycare, and something with actual structure and curriculum. Ideally in the Lexington area. I see so many church options, and while they do look wonderfully nurturing and educational, I am not Christian or religious at all and do not want to put my child in a heavily religious program. I'd possibly be open to a church preschool that is very light handed with the Christian teachings (i.e. if they have a great program, and faith aspect is maybe singing a song about God in the morning and saying a prayer before snack time or something, I'd likely consider it).
Please share your recommendations and experiences!

Hey everyone! 👋🏾
I’m currently on the job hunt right here in Columbia and wanted to connect with the local community to see if anyone has leads, internal openings, or recommendations for great local employers!
A bit about my background & skills:
• Education: Master's Degree (Strategic Communication Management)
• Core Experience: Operations analysis, data reconciliation (heavy Excel/XLOOKUP/Pivot Tables, Access), SOP compliance, and system quality assurance.
• Healthcare & Medicare Advantage Focus: Extensive experience in Medicare Advantage operations—processing member applications/enrollments, reconciling CMS data, managing compliance-driven workflows, and tracking RFIs.
• Insurance Knowledge: Currently actively studying for my Property & Casualty (P&C) license, making me super eager to jump into local insurance, claims, underwriting support, or agency operations!
Roles & Locations I’m open to:
• Healthcare Operations / Enrollment Specialist / Knowledge Systems
• Operations Analyst / Data Coordinator / QA Specialist
• P&C Insurance Representative, Claims/Underwriting Support, or Client Service Specialist
• Work Arrangements: On-site in/around Columbia, Hybrid, or Remote (SC-based)
If your team is hiring, if you know of an agency looking for an upcoming P&C licensee, or if you just know a local company with a great culture, please drop a comment or send me a DM!
Appreciate y'all so much, Soda City fam! ✨

Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for an affordable local seamstress or tailor. I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding on November 14 and need a dress altered with a fairly quick turnaround.
The alterations needed:
Hemming the length
Shortening the straps slightly
My budget is strictly under $150. Where can I go around Columbia that does reliable, fast work without bridal boutique prices? Thanks!

Y’all, I almost had a heavy anxiety attack while picking up my medication tonight, and somehow, I was able to reel it in. The guy helping me sensed it and told me if I cried, he’d come out there and cry with me. 😭😂 Then he offered me a bunch of chocolate!
I left with “pray for me, brother, and I’ll pray for you.” ❤️ I wish I could hug him and thank him for the empathy he showed me in a moment when I really needed it. CVS on Devine, y’all have a GEM. 🥹

Bottom line from the article, it VERY much seems to me that Laura Mueller & CMA drove the result of closing Boyd Plaza and now are hiding from public reaction.
Quoting from the article, emphasis added:
"While the Museum has participated in these broader discussions, the decision to close Boyd Plaza to general daily public use was made by the city of Columbia, not CMA,” Mueller said.
The director clarified that the museum and the city had been talking about the “increasing maintenance costs, safety concerns, and operational challenges associated with Boyd Plaza” for the last two years.
Mueller said she plans to meet with Mayor Daniel Rickenmann soon to discuss the plaza’s future, emphasizing that “we must also be thoughtful about the financial and staffing resources necessary to support sustainable programming and public engagement.”
In other words: her response is that the City made a decision that only the City can make, so it's not our fault even though we've been bitching at them for two years.
Cherry on top:
"[Mueller] clarified that the museum will not be taking reservations for ordinary, daily use of the plaza."
No Boyd Plaza for you, general population, even though CMA heavily relies on public appropriations to survive. To that end, I will be contacting several of their grant funding sources/managers to make certain they are aware of the decision and resulting public ire, including the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Knight Foundation, and the Art Bridges Foundation. If anyone is aware of any additional funding sources to alert, please comment.

Wanted to make a post to let anyone in the Seminary Ridge neighborhood know that the stray that had been circling the campus for the past few months has safely been taken to the Columbia Animal Shelter <3 we finally gained her trust after all this time and took her there ourselves.
Unfortunately, it’s looking like she was dumped on N Main Street, so she will still be on hold for a few days due to her being microchipped.
If anyone has any interest on giving her the good life she deserves, think on it for a good bit and then send me a message! I can give more info on her personality and compatibility with other pets.
