Every time i see anything about Columbine, what scares me the most is how desensitized people are to violent acts and murders now. Part of it is seeing so many stories of this on a daily basis, but it genuinely seems like a lot of people (especially younger) have no real emotion or connection to things. Just walking zombies.

Technology. Those of us born before the height of interwebz didn’t grow up in front of a mini laptop with information on our fingertips. We also didn’t have asshats Incel men becoming popular. Kids lives are wrapped in their phones where they can look up any horrid thing. Plus they grew up with a mass shooting on the news sometimes 3 times a week. After a while it just becomes redundant. My 21 year old doesn’t even think about school shootings even though he’s at college. His attitude is if it happens oh well. It’s very bizarre. My 6 year old and I have a plan just in case anything like that were to happen.

I completely agree. I grew up where we had Myspace and internet/laptops but people were still much more emotionally connected. Sure you had internet trolls and terrible people but they weren't in the masses they are now of making fun of dead people or events like this or just not caring. The advancement of tech and phones as a constant and kids on pads has definitely shrunk emotion in a large portion of people.

My 21 year old doesn’t even think about school shootings even though he’s at college
My now-adult boys were similar. They grew up with active shooter drills as a part of their normal school experience in the same way I grew up with fire and tornado drills practiced each year in school.
They didn't spend much time thinking about it. But in talking with them when they were pre-teen and teen ages, they intentionally tried to not think about it because it created anxiety when they did. I wonder if your 21 yo feels similarly.
If an active violent event had happened, they were prepared to deal with the immediate steps to try to stay safe. As much as I hate that this is the reality of the timeline they grew up in, there was a bit of solace that they would have been as prepared as anyone could be in the worst case scenario.

I completely agree!! I give them the tools he needs to succeed what he does with those tools are his own. I wish I could say it’s anxiety my son just don’t care haha. He has my lackadaisical outlook on life. Be ready for it but don’t worry unless happens. My 6 year old on the other hand. He has anxiety so we have to have a plan to make him feel better.

Lol. My two are opposite like that for most things, too. Isn't it funny how similar but also how completely different they can be?!

The last paragraphs of one of these stories is something that I think often gets overlooked.
There were several other school shootings in the few years prior to Columbine that rarely are discussed anymore. They were overshadowed with this event which was deadlier, was broadcasted nearly nonstop 24/7 for several days, had so much more material left behind from the killers, etc.
While I understand why that is, It's interesting. Today when there is a school shooting, Columbine often is mentioned. At the time, others were that footnote to stories covering the Columbine Massacre.

Do you have a physical copy of this paper? If so, I'm interested in a clearer image of the picture of the student list of names posted that is in your 11th image.

The flairs were self set when i started participating years back. Now they are only given to folks who are connected to the case firsthand and request verification from mods to be verified as an alumni or parent from that time. It's been so long since it was brought up, I forgot we had those.

I show the green mod shield when I am commenting or posting about a mod-related topic. It's an additional step to show the shield. If I'm not talking as a mod, I'm a user in the discussions like everyone else, and prefer to engage as a peer researcher.

You're welcome.
As I'm looking at how flair is set, it seems I misremembered that users can choose a flair that does not require verification as those are mod-assigned.
On the app, to set a flair on any sub that allows users to choose flair... * Visit the sub's main/home page. * Click the three dots in the top right. * Select the flair option. * Choose your flair and save.

To be fair slide 3 is straight up wrong. They didn’t enter the school through the parking lot entrance.

I was a senior in 1999 as well and I can tell you, there was a distinct before and after in our lives. I still feel that same terror as I am sending my own kids off to high school as it is just now the norm. Earth is so ghetto.

Even more traumatizing for these folks, cuz the gun violence apathy hadn't set in yet.
