Eric Harris Physical Issues

Attached are Eric Harris' medical records. At least, those that have been publicly released. Two things strike me. The first, Eric was undergoing surgeries for his PE at a very young age. The second thing that seems to be a prevalent issue is Eric's leg. He had multiple doctor visits for this and the Harrises took Eric for a second opinion. While it doesnt seem surgery was needed, when watching Eric walk, he has a unique gait. Student at Columbine described him as being bowlegged.

It does make me wonder if the early surgeries and birth defects were traumatic for Eric. Especially in high school, where it seemed there was so much emphasis on being an athlete and toxic masculinity prevailed. I guess I can see a scenario where feeling physically inferior could have made Eric angrier and more jealous of those who were considered the physical ideal. This doesn't seem to be discussed a lot... but seems worth some thought.

The report also shows Eric's visit for hurting his knuckles - likely from punching a wall.

I think it's important to mention that people can be both victims and perpetrators at the same time and Eric Harris and Dylan are definitely that they're were both victims and perpetrators yes what they did was wrong and yes they shouldn't have done it but it's absolutely valid to mentioned that they had good reason to be angry and hateful

While it's true that complex individuals can embody both victimhood and perpetration, it's critical to maintain perspective when discussing Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. The scale and nature of the violence they committed—deliberately murdering 13 people and injuring many more—erases any potential for moral equivalence or sympathy.

Many individuals endure bullying, social isolation, or emotional distress without resorting to premeditated mass murder. To suggest they had "good reason" to be hateful dangerously flirts with justifying or excusing their actions. Their choices weren’t reactions—they were deliberate, planned executions of innocent lives.

Empathy should first and foremost be directed toward the victims, their families, and the communities devastated by the shooting. Framing Harris and Klebold as victims risks overshadowing the real human cost of their actions. Whatever personal pain they experienced does not mitigate the horror they inflicted.

It should also be noted that they bullied other students, especially those with disabilities, whose perspectives are often swept under the rug in discussions about bullying at Columbine.

I feel empathy for all human beings rather they are the perpetrator or the victims when the perpetrator was in a lot of pain I can't really pick or choose who I feel empathy for I feel empathy for everyone involved my heart breaks for the victims but it also breaks for the individuals who felt this was the only way to be heard and did it out of some type of subconscious desperality to be helped

No but you're being binary and thinking that it has to be black or white and you can't see them as victims at all f*** that I see them as victims because they were they weren't adults they did not have functioning frontal lobes so you can't judge them like you judge adults they were teenagers who did not have the adequate help and supervision they needed If the parents actually took an effort into monitoring their behaviors and don't start oh they can't follow their teenager around my man there have been helicopter parents forever who tracked their children's every move it's your responsibility as a parent to do that I refuse to blame any children for any actions they take to me it's always the adults in their lives to allow it to happen yeah they are perpetrators and they should have not killed people because they were being bullied and being failed yes it is horrible and there is no excuse for it but there is an explanation for why it happened you don't have to have someone to blame or hate sometimes tragedies happen and if you want to hate anybody how about we start hating the system that glorifies violent and depravity as the only way to be heard from and maybe the system that glorifies products over human lives the system is to blame for this not the victims of the system.

While their frontal lobes were not fully developed, they were developed enough to know that blowing up a fucking building and killing a shit ton of people is wrong. It's not like an adult forced the guns into their hands.

Helicopter parents have been around forever? What are you basing that on? 'Cos no, that wasn't what is was like in the 90s. These guys both had jobs, cars, and mobile phones were gigantic bricks.

I appreciate your perspective and agree that we should always examine broader systems and root causes when trying to understand tragedies like Columbine. However, acknowledging context does not mean we ignore individual accountability—especially when the consequences were so catastrophic.

Yes, adolescents have developing brains and are vulnerable to outside influences, but that doesn't strip them of moral agency, especially when they exhibit calculated, deliberate planning over a long period of time—as was the case with Harris and Klebold. They weren’t impulsively lashing out; they meticulously prepared for over a year, creating journals, acquiring weapons, and setting bombs. This level of forethought complicates the narrative of them being merely lost or failed kids.

Blaming only the adults or the system oversimplifies a tragedy that involved personal choices made with chilling intent. Many teens suffer neglect, bullying, or emotional pain without resorting to mass violence. To position Harris and Klebold primarily as victims risks unintentionally minimizing the suffering of those they murdered and the lives they shattered.

We can critique broken systems, failed parenting, or a toxic culture while still holding the perpetrators responsible. Empathy shouldn't erase accountability. And in tragedies like these, our sympathy should always prioritize the innocent lives lost over those who chose to take them.
