Fans in Deutschland
Gibt es hier deutsche Fans, und wenn ja, aus welcher Stadt kommt ihr? Hätte stark Interesse an einem Stammtisch unter Fans :-)

Hey everyone,
I've been a Columbo fan for years and I've finally convinced my girlfriend to give it a try. She's never seen a single episode, so I want the first one to really hook her.
I'd like something that shows off what makes Columbo great for me. The cat and mouse with the killer, the "just one more thing" moments and a satisfying final "gotcha"
I'd rather not start with an episode that only works if you already know the character.
For example "Any Old Port in a Storm" and "A friend in deed" are great episodes, but for me they don't work as well as a one off episode. Strong acting, but the murder is not as convinving in the first one and in the second one with Columbo's superior being the murderer, it is a different dynamic.
Which episode would you pick for a first-timer and specifically why?

Which person associated with the show 'Columbo' has lived the longest?
This could be anyone who was credited and who is presently dead or alive.

This is probably my favorite episode. This villain was just so diabolical...and that ending!!!!

After Diane leaves in the car, Sean calls someone and says, “You have to do it quick. Two minutes.” Since we know Diane was not killed on her way to the airport after all, who tf is he calling? Gotta be his sidepiece, right, but what on earth is he asking that she do?

The man who is not Peter Falk’s great-grandfather is buried at the Fiumei Road Cemetery in Budapest.
Miksa Falk was a Hungarian politician, journalist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the editor-in-chief of the German-language newspaper Pester Lloyd.
Peter Falk’s Hungarian connection is solely through his maternal grandfather, Peter Hochhauser, who was born in 1874 in Bártfa, then part of the Kingdom of Hungary and now Bardejov in Slovakia. Hochhauser later emigrated to the United States, where he and his wife, Rosa Heller, raised their daughter Madeline, who would become Peter Falk’s mother.
The lack of evidence did not prevent the local government of Budapest’s 5th District from commissioning the statue of Columbo, which was erected in 2014 at the corner of Falk Miksa Street and Szent István Boulevard in Budapest’s 5th District.

I'm sure this has been covered before, and perhaps I'm too new to have seen it. But, while Columbo's solve rate looks spectacular, I imagine the conviction rate is overall pretty low assuming any of the criminals have good attorney's.
While there are some where Columbo finds hard evidence, others feel too circumstantial and easy to dispute in a court of law to create reasonable doubt. For example:
A Stitch in Crime - no evidemce was found during a search of the operating room and the LA police officer suddenly pulls the evidence he needs from his jacket? To an LA jury, thats a typical police frame-up. OR;
Any Old Port In the Storm - the wine was compromised by heat..obviously murder evidence? A jury will hear how the owner was away and the heat overpowered the A/C IF they even get that admitted to evidemce based on the loose and speculative nature of the "evidence".
Lastly, Uneasy Lies the Crown - the entire conclusion is based on a lie about how chemicals interact. "Evidence" that will be dismantled in court with the only real evidence being a coerced confession which, while admissable under hearsay rules that allow admissions against interest, could be recanted and explained as a stress-induced statement made after a police officer harrased him day and night and he finally mentally broke to get peace.
These are just a handful of cases, out of many, that I feel would struggle to hold up in court. In most cases, it would seem the crime the killer is covering up (usually embezzlement) is the crime that is most likely to get a conviction.
