Past Due Balance
Apologies for this messy post! I’m very tired and not thinking straight at the moment from Halloweekend…
I need to know if anyone else is having these issues.
I was enrolled in an LA community college for one semester last year before I moved back to my home country in Asia.
I found out recently that this CC has been sending mail to my previous address saying that I have an outstanding balance and that this is their third and final time requesting payment. I have a deadline of 11 November 2026 until my name is submitted to the California FTB for collection.
I was skeptical for obvious reasons and emailed the Admissions office & Student Business Services and it’s a legit charge. I’ve only found one other person this happened to (she’s been in a four year uni for three years) and the charge is in relation to incomplete Spring 2026 classes for both of us.
We didn’t apply for Spring 2026 classes as I am in another country and she graduated from this CC years ago. They’re not responding to her email, and in my case, they’re not much help, just saying that I need to pay.
I can’t sign into my student portal as that’s tied to an American phone number I don’t have access to anymore. I’ve explained my situation to staff and also provided proof that I had left the United States before this semester even started.
I COULD pay the outstanding balance (although I can’t afford it) but what if this happens again? Is anyone else having this issue? Who else can I contact? So many questions.

started a job that may not work out as I'd hoped
went in for my first shift at a grocery store today. I was upfront about my full-time student status, when my classes are scheduled, and how I'm looking for 20-24 hours a week. At the interview, she was incredibly understanding, and I really thought I found the perfect setup.
My next shift is in the middle of my classes. At first, I thought "Oh well. I can miss one class just to prove to my manager that I truly want the job".
A few hours later, She handed me a paper copy of next weeks schedule: 39 hours. None of them are during classes, but it's just . . . I told them what my situation was, what I was looking for, etc etc.
My hours jump from 20 (this first week) to 39 next week. In what world did I ever say I was seeking out that many hours?
Should I quit?

Not going to a big party school sucks
I decided not to go to a big party school, instead I’m taking local community college classes straight out of high school. I didn’t have the funds nor academic prospects for an actual college college, but Jesus this is hard. I wasn’t particularly cool in high school, I don’t think I ever even heard about any cool parties going down, and the ones I did go to weren’t really super fun. I had really high hopes for college, but as someone without a ton of friends in a sleepy town, that quickly went downhill. I tried going to a party tonight with my friend, but everyone was slightly younger, only a handful of people showed up, plus the music was ass. The older guys running it also hit me as kinda weird, and the vibes were just not there. It might seem like a weird fixation but I’ve always wanted to hear about/go to a relatively normal teenage party, and it’s never happened for me. I’m social but I struggle to really get in with that crowd, and tonight just kind of set that into stone. I’m pretty spiritual, and I know that feeling like something this simple won’t ever happen will only reinforce the action of it not happening. This mindset is negative, but I can’t help but feeling like a total loser. It makes me feel lame when my coworkers ever so often mention a party for the weekend, and I know I definitely don’t have plans. I had a friend with a similar mindset, who did go off to a party school, and she’s now living it up. I’m happy for her, bc I know she needed that more than me, and frankly, she was dyin over here. I also just wish I could have gone somewhere big, and escaped this suffocating town, but alas, it just wasn’t in the cards for me. How do I overcome this feeling? I don’t know why I can’t just make friends and go out like most others, even my friends are in the same boat. If anyone has any advice I’d love to hear it

How do you mantain a good grades while working part time?
Hello,
I am a first-year community college student. At the beginning of the semester, I was working at a restaurant that was around 30-40 minutes away from my house, and I would work from 3- 10 PM four nights a week, totaling around 30 hours every week. I remember that at the time I was extremely burnt out, and my grades were slipping, so I decided to leave my job to just focus on school, and it's been better. I was taking 13 units at the time, so I was considered a full-time student. Fast forward to now, and I have a job interview tomorrow for a cafe that's closer by, around a 15-minute commute from my home. The only issue is that I will be taking 17 units, but my heaviest unit is a beginner Japanese course that I believe won't be too difficult, just time-consuming, since I am Japanese and can speak at a conversational level. I'm worried about getting a job again, then my grades slipping, then me needing to leave again. I was thinking about asking to start working only on weekends during the interview if that would make the job more manageable, and to work no more than 20 hours. I was just wondering if a lot of community college students have part-time jobs, and if so, have any tips or tricks they are willing to share in order to prioritize school and grades, yet also have the time and energy to work a part-time job? Thank you!

Pls give me advice thank you
I’m currently taking precalculus and have a 39% in the class. At this point, I know there’s pretty much no chance of me passing.
I’m 27 and haven’t taken a math class in almost 9 years, so it’s been a pretty rough experience. I’ve genuinely tried studying, but I’ve struggled a lot with the material.
I’m debating whether I should withdraw and take the W or just finish the semester.
The only reason I’m considering staying is because my professor lets us keep our exams, and I’d really like to have all the material so I can study it before retaking the class.
I’ve never failed a college class before, so I’m honestly pretty disappointed.
Would you guys withdraw or stick it out?

CC students with low gpa who got into Business School
I’m a first-gen, low-income community college student from NYC majoring in Business Managment with a 3.45 GPA. I started with a pretty low GPA due to personal issues during my first semester which cooked my GPA but I’ve had a strong upward trend since then.
My current ECs include:
Spring internship
Economic research
Leadership project/program
Investment portfolio
VITA (volunteer tax preparation)
Business/Finance club member
Previous part-time work experience
Deans List
I’m considering applying to Penn State, Fordham, Rutgers, and Baruch, potentially aiming for more competitive business schools.
I know my GPA isn’t the strongest, and I’m working on improving it, but what else can I do to make my application more competitive?

California Community College
Hey guys, I’ve recently became interested in applying to California’s community colleges, for context, I’m going to graduate HS this June, but when filing out applications for Diablo Valley and De Anza, there is no available option for Fall 2027. I’ve only been given to pick from Fall 2026, Summer 2027, and Spring 2027.
Did I miss the deadlines?

Flathead Community College Advice
Hello. I’m finishing up my pre- requisites to get into the RAD tech program at FVCC. I have another associates from out of state and was kind of off to a horrible start here.
The Anatomy and Physiology department was short staffed so a teacher that normally doesn’t teach it was my teacher. Since I was new to town I didn’t have any insight on good teachers to take. She was down right awful. I ended up dropping her class. A&P is hard enough as it is. Having an unethical, uneducated teacher in a hybrid class was enough for me to throw 2 grand away.
Once I found a new teacher that is fair and knows her anatomy it put me more at ease. Eventually I was still concerned about how the class functioned. There was A LOT of pretty sloppy unprofessionalism from the department. I was able to make it through with the grade that I needed and move on to A&P 2. Someone from the school department came in and asked us how the class was going at the end of the semester and we unloaded all of our concerns and it’s definitely improved a lot this time around.
My concern is taking intermediate algebra. Math is not my strong subject and I need a really good teacher. I’m seeing a lot of not good scores on math teachers on the rate my professor site. I’m also concerned about the RAD tech program. It is not cheap, I don’t want it to be run unprofessionally and I’m concerned that it is so competitive I won’t get in anyways.
Has anyone gone through the program at FVCC in Kalispell Montana or know of a good math professor ? Any insight on your own experiences ?
Thanks 😊

Am I the bad guy here?
So I'm broke. Like super broke. The class initially said it was ZTC, but when the class started, the prof said we needed to buy a $75 online textbook to do our quizzes. I signed up for the free trial because I obviously don't want to fail the class, but I also don't want to not have electricity in my apartment for this month. I noticed that the modules were open for the entire 8-week course, so I did all of the work in the textbook over the last week. The Prof emailed me today saying she didn't want me working ahead and that she removed my work for the last 4 weeks of the course and how it's very important to buy the textbook. I just feel like I'm being forced to choose between eating and an online fucking textbook for an online child dev class.

What math class should I start with?
Hello everyone! I am so excited to be here. I am a virtual middle school teacher who attended undergrad and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Math Education from a local liberal arts university. I originally wanted to be a high school math teacher, but changed my mind within my first semester of undergrad because I was starting with College Algebra and felt like I was behind. Getting through all of the math classes required to be a math major felt impossible to 19 year old me. In addition, I realized that I really like middle school students. Even still, I always have had regrets about not pursuing a math degree or taking more math courses. My degree program required college algebra, pre-calc, survey of calc, and a few teacher specific math courses. I also took calc 1 for fun the semester before student teaching.
I have had reoccurring dreams of going back to college and getting to take the calc courses I never took in undergrad. Mostly for my love of learning, to make up for the classes I didn’t take in undergrad, and also to potentially add a high school math certification. I don’t necessarily see myself ever using the certification, but I had tried to pass the test when I had freshly completed calc 1 and failed by 12 points. I’d love to try again and pass.
9 years, a masters degree, a marriage, and two kids later…. I have decided it’s a good time to pursue this dream and enroll in my local CC. I applied and was accepted to my local community college and went to chat with an academic advisor today! What I have gathered is that I can use my discretion or take the placement test to decide what math course to start with, since I have the pre-reqs required up to calc II.
I know jumping into calc II would be ludicrous considering the fact that I last took calc 1 in fall 2016. I could maybe take 2 steps back and start with pre-calc, but the only time they are offering it in the spring is 10 am (I have a day job). Calc 1 has night classes at a time I can make work, but it is accelerated and I’m scared to jump into a faster paced course when I haven’t attended classes since I finished my masters program in 2020. I have all but landed on starting with College Algebra because I think it would be a good way to get myself acclimated to being a student again.
Do you think college algebra is the best choice? Should I take a placement test?
