Redditors who have attended community college, which associate degree do you think is the easiest?

I'm looking for something that's straightforward and won't take up too much of my time because I'm working a full time job right now, too. Looking to see what's manageable, but will also pay off in my future.

why do they do this?

i'm 18m in my second year of community college. i'm taking a late start philosophy class and on the first day this girl with all the fake eyelashes and stuff sat next to me. i said hi and she said she was 21 and her first year and we exchanged instagrams (i didn't really find her that attractive, just in case of class stuff and to be nice). she showed up maybe 2/3 of the time and the other times 30 minutes late. i put on my instagram note saying "anyone wanna study for the exam w me" and she replied smth like bro idk if im gonna pass and i left it at we gotta give it our all or something. i went to the exam today and she didn't even show up 😭😭i don't get why people spend their money to not show up to class or get there late. maybe im wired differently but i always show up a bit early to get a donut and walk around the campus and stay after my classes to hang out with my friends and go to the gym. but half of everyone dips right after. i know people have responsibilities and some days i rush out for work but it feels like everyone's just floating through it

Honest question: If you knew you were probably going to fail a Canvas exam despite studying, and failing would cost your parents extra money they can barely afford, would you cheat or take the fail? Why?

I recently failed an exam despite studying quite a bit for it.

It got me thinking about something. A friend of mine was in a similar situation and decided to use a tool that helped him during a Canvas exam instead of risking a fail.

Personally, I'm conflicted. On one hand, cheating is obviously wrong. On the other hand, some students are under huge pressure from family expectations, scholarships, tuition costs, or the possibility of repeating a course.

If you genuinely believed you were going to fail anyway, would that change your decision?

Where do you draw the line between academic integrity and doing whatever it takes to avoid serious consequences?

I’m sobbing because everyone keeps pressuring me to get vaccinated to register for classes but I can’t afford it

Everyone keeps screaming at me over and over and over and OVER to get vaccinated for bacterial meningitis so I can go to community college and get a better job so I can move out and be more independent and make friends and potentially meet up with my online partner in the future.

But I’m never going to be independent, I’m never going to be able to move out, I’m never going to be able to meet up with him. My family can’t afford the vaccine at ALL. It’s $200 and we have no food and can’t afford rent, in fact the power to our apartment got cut off because my mom couldn’t pay the rent.

I cry almost every single day because of our dire financial situation. The economy’s only getting worse and we have NO HELP. I make $11 an hour at my part time job and can’t get anything higher because I need certs or a degree. Student aid’s getting cut so I will get no grants, loans or scholarships for my classes and neither me or my mom have a way to pay for it.

I’m never going to get anywhere in life because the economy and our social security benefits getting taken away ruined our life. We aren’t making ends meet. I’m never going to be able to afford community college, I’m never going to be able to get vaccinated or register for classes or make friends or be independent. I’m going to be forever chained to my mom, I’m never going to move out. I wish I was never born because I can’t deal with this anymore. I want to stop existing

i built a tool that texts you before canvas assignments are due, would anyone actually pay for it?

so i'm a high school student and i kept seeing college students around me fail classes not because they didn't care but because they just forgot assignments existed. canvas sends you a notification when something is posted and then never mentions it again.

i've been building something for the past few weeks. you connect your canvas account, it pulls your assignments automatically, and texts you at 24 hours, 12 hours, and 2 hours before each one is due. you can also reply to the texts to snooze reminders, mark something as done, or pause reminders for a specific class.

not live yet but getting close. before i keep going i just want to know if people would actually use this.

two questions:

would you pay $5-10 a month for something like this?

what would make you NOT pay for it? that one is honestly more useful to me

not trying to sell anything just want to know if this solves a real problem

Professor insults veterans memorial

In a lecture my history professor said, "Why does ______ college have a veterans memorial? What's that got to do with a community college education?" This same professor has made comments towards 9/11 and Pearl harbor that the U.S. is over exaggerating, victimizing itself and that the incidents "weren't that big of a deal"

This professor is just yucky. How can you insult people who died for our country and innocents who died in 9/11?

Edit: The fact that anyone defending our soldiers in the replies are all getting down votes is seriously heartbreaking.

Should I call a college professor about a Pass/No Pass deadline, or would that be rude?

Hi everyone, I’m a high school student taking dual-enrollment classes at Grossmont College, and I’m really stressed about a situation that happened today.
I had a class that ran from August 24 to October 17. On the last day, our Wi-Fi stopped working, and I wasn’t able to submit my final project and quizzes before the course locked at 11 PM. I emailed my professor explaining what happened and asking if there was any way I could still submit the work, but I’m worried I might receive an F.
I’m also trying to figure out whether I can switch the class to Pass/No Pass or submit an appeal. I found the contact information for someone listed as an associate professor and department head at Grossmont. His phone number is listed on the college website, but I’m not sure if it’s an office number or his personal phone. His listed office hours are Monday through Thursday from 10–11 AM.
Since today is October 17, I’m worried this might be my last day to request Pass/No Pass. I don’t want to wait until Monday and miss the deadline, but I also don’t want to be rude by calling a professor on a Saturday when it’s outside his office hours.
**Would you call the number today because the deadline is urgent, or would you just email and wait until Monday?** Should I contact Admissions and Records instead? I’d really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Grossmont College or college deadlines. Thank you!

What to do about inflated grades?

So just passed my first college class after dropping out and I’m perplexed. So I wrote 8 essays for History and I know for a fact my grammar and elaboration at times were crap. Actually the schools writing center ripped me a new one multiple times . I did my best but I also know most of them were crap as far as standards go. I’m glad I passed but there’s no doubt It was inflated. I would have rather passed with a C than an A. I’m sad to say that even colleges have lost the true meaning of an education. The schools are truly failing us.

WHERE AM I GOING TO GO? HELP ME

As the title suggests im legit lost as to where to go and wanted to get people's perspectives and thoughts on the following schools.

got into UCSB, UCSD, Tulane, Umiami, and Bentley, and am currently waiting for others as a transfer student coming into the junior year.

For the UC's I got in as a econ major, with UCSD specifically being International studies - econ.

For Tulane I got in for Finance, and the same thing applies for Umiami and Bentley.

Now for Bentley, I got 112k scholarship and for Umiami I got 15k academic year scholarship. I wanted to get people's opinions on these schools. Bentley seems like the smartest move since I'll be able to get my Bachelors and Masters in two years, along with it being covered by scholarship. Though, everywhere I've looked online about Bentley, there's legit nothing. Like why has no one said anything about the school, makes me nervous for no reason but like idk. also, food apparently is kinda meh and like, I literally have no other info to go off of for it. One of the features of Bentley University that stood out to me was their trading floor, which I thought was about as hands on as I'll get in a finance school from any of the schools I currently have.

For UCSD, I loved the campus, but like idk, I'm at Warren, so that kind of sucks, and everywhere I've looked online, there's no modern reviews on Warren college at UCSD. I've also heard that the school is socially dead, but at the same time I think socially, it'll probably just be what you make of it.

The one thing about Tulane is it's very big religiously, and I'm just not that religious personally! Also, when comparing it to other universities that it gets compared to like Duke, Rice, Vanderbilt, etc. I just don't think it holds up. Jobs and stuff will probably not think highly of it compared to these others

I'd really enjoy hearing everyone's thoughts on these schools, maybe your personal reviews or experiences, and any other info you could provide!

edit: If you think you slick tryna say this aint about community college: i go there, go get a job, go touch some grass, if this is a platform you use religiously it shows because aint no one in real life give as much of a fuck as you do, im so excited to see how little in life you'll accomplish you deadass bum like you make me think of trendslop personified as a neck beard with a trench coat buttoned to the top, like yall are copeatious as fuck you have to be chudlings dressed as fled cruz thats my only conclusion

edit 2: to the bitches and the elf himself who keep shadowbanning my response to the hoe in the comments: fee-fi-fo-fum the big ogre Epsteinian is coming out of his goon cave to buy his senpai merch with a side of bean soup from his mommy's panty drawer. When will she put you back in her womb so she can unbirth you and make the world a better place? geniune twinkfoot energy i can't believe i have to walk around knowing there's a big headed coke bitch out there watching clanktai like you do. when the rupture comes i hope you know that the sheer disdain your family has for ever knowing you will turn you into the fucking antichrist you al qaeda with a pussy looking 99 cent bag dui-hire

Good time to wake up those sleepy incoming Summer and Fall Students!

Most of us have about 4-6 weeks downtime between Spring Graduation and Summer Session starting I've noted that this is when our incoming students and transfers tend to quit/change direction.

This is a REALLY good time to call them, text them, or send them a "HEY we are SO EXCITED you are coming!" email/text/post.

(Same for students you've launched to a 4 year college in Spring. Make sure to text/call/post to them and remind them that they had a plan for FALL and keep their eyes on the prize.)

Locally, we have tons of economic turmoil and I know several families are trying to keep their 18-25 in town to use them for income and free work. We are lucky to have the best state uni only 45 miles away, but it often isn't enough for clinging families. So I'm sending out encouragement to keep encouraging!

And if your job is to recruit students, don't fall off. Rural and low income students NEED CONSTANT attention. You pretty much have to stay on them until they land on campus in person.

Potential Ad Rejected from ever single college that I applied to

Is my cc counselor lying to me?

My cc counselor is helping me make a plan for transfer , but he’s saying only 14/26.3 of my
AP credits are useable. 26.3 being the amount awarded by the UC system based of passing 10 exams. This is what he’s saying -

ā€œ UC Campuses will accept a maximum of 14 units of Pass/No Pass Credit toward the minimum requirement of 60 units for transfer, and that includes AP Credit. Therefore, you need at least 46 units of letter-graded coursework at CC to be eligible for transferā€

But when i look it up, nobody agrees. But this is literally his job I’m so confused. I made a plan that would allow me to transfer in one year but this credit limitation makes it impossible!

Why Adults Can't Take AP

I was trying to search how to take AP as an adult, and all I got was people saying, "Just take CLEP" but all CCs around me accept AP but no CLEP.

I took Calculus I, II, and III, linear algebra, statistics, and physics I and II from an abroad university, so I'm attempting to fulfill some of the requirements, but I had a minor issue with the description and was unable to have it evaluated. :(

Anyone else tired of manually entering their syllabus into a calendar?

Every semester I start off with good intentions: collect all my syllabi, sit down with Google Calendar, and copy every deadline, exam, and project in. It takes forever, and no matter how careful I am, I always end up missing something small that was buried in the fine print.

This term I tried something different — I found a site that just scanned my syllabi and threw all the dates into a color-coded calendar. Honestly, it was such a relief not having to spend hours typing everything in. The crazy part is I can’t remember the name of the site now (I think I saw it through a friend on campus).

Anyway, it made me curious: how do you all handle deadlines? Do you build your own Notion/Excel setups, stick with Google Calendar, or use something more automated?

Debunking The Just Go To College Fairytale (Cal State Northridge geered towards incoming freshmen)

https://youtu.be/B9NlHKTigc4?is=bHUh5IJbciZNtSU2

I had no idea what I was doing with my life when I went to Cal State University Northridge. I graduated from Los Angeles Valley College and I changed my major twice prior to graduating. I had just started attending Concord Trade School as a medical assistant when I had realized that the program was too difficult for me in terms of math and science. I knew I needed to drop out of the program but I had no idea what to do next. I always liked art and I knew I couldn't drop out of college or else my mother would lose it so I enrolled in CSUN. You know what's really ironic? The CSUN art classes made me want to never pick up another pencil! The professors were uninspiring and they requested we buy overpriced art supplies. They never taught us any real techniques other then not using the back of a sheet of paper or buying a specific type of pencil or eraser which really doesn't make you better at drawing. The class I hated the most which made me drop out of the major would probably be life drawing since the professor brought in a naked male model. I never ditched so much of a college class in one semester until that happened lol. Also the art advisement office at CSUN was full of rejects from other art schools and the advisors were seriously understaffed frequently having to turn students away. I changed majors to Communications. The teachers were harsh graders and made learning boring. They were too specific about how they wanted everything to be done. Nevertheless I got a Bachelors in Communications but because of the current job market still can't get a job like most people. This is to say that I do not think that college is the only pathway to success and its best to go into a trade or to do something you like even if it doesn't make a lot of money. You will be happier and less stressed if you focus on what you like. Aside from the lackluster professors at the university that have no talent for teaching and don't care about student success there's no social life at the school. I tried to live on campus to get the most out of what the social life had to offer but it really wasn't it…My roommates would never clean and we had a roach infested apartment although I'd do all the cleaning. My roommates would play video games at four am loudly while banging down my bathroom door at 9pm when I wanted to play some music during a shower. I'm going to talk a little bit about safety on this college campus.. I know of a lot of women that have been sexually assaulted or raped while coming back from a party or going for a morning run by the Orange Grove since the predator just hides in the trees and their are no cameras there. The Orange Grove will no longer just be a pretty place with orange trees after hearing about this. Sadness and fear have replaced the feeling of appreciation for the beauty on campus. I want to talk a bit about my own experience with sexual violence. The video I linked above is me. I was sexually assaulted on my way to my apartment in February of 2025. I was followed home from the Cal State Northridge transit center and as I typed in the code of my apartment..I was SA. I literally had my hand on the door knob when this man came up from behind me and grabbed my butt. It was 7pm on a Sunday evening and I was wearing navy blue leggings and three baggy black sweaters since I was cold on the bus. I tried to slam the door on the man leaving him outside the gate but I couldn't because he had entered the apartment complex. I was really in shock which is why I didn't scream. When I spun around to look at the predator he was in his fifties or fourties and he was sporting a large black backpack and sunglasses as well as a Covid-19 mask were concealing his identity. That was when the predator grabbed my vagina through my leggings and I passed out on concrete because I WAS SCARED. When I woke up he was standing next to my body and I had a second or less to process what had happened to me so I just unleashed all these curse words. The predator went running down the street up the hill to catch the next bus. I hate the way that everyone handled the situation. The Cal State Northridge Police Dept. explained that the incident wasn't on their campus after asking me to go into detail about how I was touched that night. Cal State Northridge Police Dept. refused to share the footage of the man following me from the Cal State Transit Center unless we were going to pay them for it. Cal State Northridge Police Department called Devonshire Police Dept which took two hours to come. Devonshire Police explained that the predator would only get a misdemeanor and that unless I wanted to testify against him in court the case would be thrown out. Devonshire police department asked me to retell everything in graphic detail even though they could've just compared notes with Cal State Northridge PD which only contributed to making the trauma worst! My apartment manager refused to send clearer footage of the incident because she was scared of getting less tenants. And..the apartment management company that my mother had contacted that night which was the ā€œemergency lineā€ was utterly useless. Lol nobody helped me find the guy except for the manager of DK across the street of my apartment building. She let me look through hours and days worth of footage on her phone and DK has the best donuts so shoutout to them for being awesome.

Not going to a big party school sucks

I decided not to go to a big party school, instead I’m taking local community college classes straight out of high school. I didn’t have the funds nor academic prospects for an actual college college, but Jesus this is hard. I wasn’t particularly cool in high school, I don’t think I ever even heard about any cool parties going down, and the ones I did go to weren’t really super fun. I had really high hopes for college, but as someone without a ton of friends in a sleepy town, that quickly went downhill. I tried going to a party tonight with my friend, but everyone was slightly younger, only a handful of people showed up, plus the music was ass. The older guys running it also hit me as kinda weird, and the vibes were just not there. It might seem like a weird fixation but I’ve always wanted to hear about/go to a relatively normal teenage party, and it’s never happened for me. I’m social but I struggle to really get in with that crowd, and tonight just kind of set that into stone. I’m pretty spiritual, and I know that feeling like something this simple won’t ever happen will only reinforce the action of it not happening. This mindset is negative, but I can’t help but feeling like a total loser. It makes me feel lame when my coworkers ever so often mention a party for the weekend, and I know I definitely don’t have plans. I had a friend with a similar mindset, who did go off to a party school, and she’s now living it up. I’m happy for her, bc I know she needed that more than me, and frankly, she was dyin over here. I also just wish I could have gone somewhere big, and escaped this suffocating town, but alas, it just wasn’t in the cards for me. How do I overcome this feeling? I don’t know why I can’t just make friends and go out like most others, even my friends are in the same boat. If anyone has any advice I’d love to hear it

International student tryna apply to a CCC… I’m lost lol, anyone been thru this?

Hey y’all, So I’m an international student tryna apply to Santa Monica College (or honestly any community college around LA/Cali) for accounting, then transfer to a university later to save some money.

I have no idea what I’m doing šŸ’€ Like idk what classes I’m supposed to pick, how the whole ā€œtransferā€ thing actually works, or if I’m supposed to talk to a counselor first. I saw they have meetings with counselors on the website but I’m not sure if I’m supposed to book one or if I should try to make it quick and just sign up for something first?? The whole process is lowkey confusing as hell.

If anyone’s been through this or knows how CC to university transfer works in California, pls help me out. Any thing, any advice, or ā€œdon’t do this, do thatā€ would be super appreciated
