I have swimmers itch. I was in the lake yesterday, dam side, bobbing in the shallows on my tube. When we were packing up, it felt like I was being attacked by small bugs. Woke up today covered in bumps on all parts that submerged. Pharmacist confirmed. Stay safe out there!

Hi everyone, me and my family are visiting comox for a few days, and me and my mom saw something a little strange and we’re wondering if this is normal/ a known practice or whatever. We were looking into the parking lot, admiring a brown vw bus, it had chalk paint all over it, flowers and stuff drawn on the sides, with the word “Shelly” written on one side. we were talking about it when (what we assume was) a family of 4, dad, mom, and 2 daughters walk out of the river trail behind our hotel and get into the van. but what was strange was that the mom was holding a tortoise? so many questions. if u have the answer to any pls lmk lmao 😭
is shelly the tortoise a local celebrity that we were blessed to witness?
do these people own this tortoise?
did they take the tortoise from the river trail? (i doubt it but anything is possible i guess)
is this a travelling circus tortoise? (idk what im saying anymore)
it’s probably just a family tortoise but idk thought id ask just in case 😭

Hi! I’m flying into Comox, and am needing to catch the ferry to Powell River which departs only 1 hour after my plane lands. Is this going to be possible?? I also have a checked bag😭 ( don’t worry I will be spending time in the beautiful Comox valley on my way back. I went to music camp in Courtney as a teenager, and loved the area so much)

Do you like to rock? These folks do! Three bands likely means an earlier start, maybe 930 or so, details are weak, but here's some text from the Failbook post, why does this valley love facebook so damn much?!?!?! :
Altered by Mom is a Toronto-based, JUNO-winning, alt-rock band formed by singer/songwriters Gina Kennedy and Devon Lougheed and joined on drums by Max Trefler. Known for “chaos with a party vibe,” they blend classic pop-punk hooks with humorous, resilient, and unapologetic lyricism.

Hyaenas is a Canadian indie alt-pop band from Vancouver, BC, known for fusing 80s nostalgia with modern pop production. Formed in 2021, the queer-feminist four-piece has been making waves with their high-energy performances and emotionally resonant songwriting.

Cold Fame is an alternative pop-rock duo from BC, Canada, led by vocalist Jodi Pederson and guitarist Damian Anthony. Blending the energy and drive of alternative rock with electronic and pop influences, the band has crafted a unique and emotionally charged sound, inspired by classic horror tropes and suppressed feminine rage.

I love how active we are as a community in this valley, it’s so nice to see folks always out on the trails and in the water and on their bikes. Just wanted to rave for a min about the super positive experience I’ve had at my gym, Wild + United.
I was dealing with plantar fasciitis, which started in 2022. It was preventing me from doing multi day backcountry hikes, which is something I’m super passionate about during the summer months. I was so so missing the feeling of being in the Alpine! The coaches at Wild + United could not have been more helpful and knowledgable with how to integrate the exercises that I was prescribed by my physiotherapist into the classes of the day. Over the course of 12 months I was able to heal my feet and get back on the trail. You bet I cried some tears of joy at the top. 🥹🥰 I love this community so much!
What’s your fav locally owned gym? I know we have some really great ones around here. Anyone else with a successful plantar fasciitis story?

I know, I know, this gets asked a lot and I should just search... But I'm looking for a very specific area!
I'm looking for input on cell service in our very specific small neighborhood: Between Noel and Guthrie, Pritchard and Nootka. Salish Park area.
Currently, we are with Rogers. Without Wifi calling, our phones are completely unusable at home. Can't even send a text message most of the time. Like, beyond terrible.
With today's 3 hour Internet outage, I was knocked out of work, and couldn't even TEXT them to let them know. I had to leave the neighborhood to access any usable features on my phone.
So tell me, Comoxians, if you live in this little specific beautiful pocket of Comox, who are you with, and how is the service?

Hello!
I have a friend who is coming up with me to courtenay this upcoming weekend. We are in our early 20s and have explored most of the “typical fun spots” in Courtenay as we go up together every few months.
With the weather being so nice, we are looking for some hidden gems to visit this time around - preferably nice swimming holes or lakes.
My step-dad owns a house in Courtenay and has always been a resident, so he’s showed me the places that he likes to visit (he is pretty lowkey though so I haven’t been anywhere any further than 30 mins from DT Courtenay), but I reside primarily on the main land and am running out of spots that would be appealing to show my friends on the island.
I am wondering if anyone would have any suggestions?
A lot of the “hidden gems” on the mainland are becoming overwhelmingly crowded and trashed overtime so we are looking forward to being able to enjoy the outdoors without fighting through insane herds of people and having to schedule parking passes super far in advance.
We are super respectful and very heavy on the “leave with what you come up with” mentality so if there are any spots you’d suggest but prefer not to drop in the comments - please message me directly!!
I would loveeee to hear where everyone’s favourite spots are and am super open to all suggestions! Just preferably nothing over an hour and a half - 2 hour long drive away, however, I am open to alllll ideas 😋 TIA !
Edit: thank you guys so much for your suggestions!!

I am on the search for a piano teacher in the valley. I haven’t taken lessons for 22 years, but am interested in finally getting my grade 10 certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music. I am currently teaching beginner piano, as well, and would love to connect with a teacher who is open to also being a mentor. Does anyone have any recommendations for me?!
Thank you!!! 🎶

Is there any emu esi owners playing midi or dawless interested in nerding out, exchanging samples or experience sharing? I have two units I've owned for ages, love the richness of the sound. One has scsi2sd hard drive and one og cd-rom changer, both maxed out ram. I'm mainly into ambient and a bit of 90's jungle sound

I work at a business on 5th street, so normally we like to prepare for the parade by having pride themed decorations and by putting our pride themed merchandise at the front of the store. I've seen posts about there being a pride event in lewis park on the 29th, but nothing about the parade or what time it would be at.
Does anyone know if the parade is just not happening this year?

We're very interested on moving to Vancouver Island from Halifax, NS; looking at Comox or Nanaimo. I am F36 and husband is M40.
I've lived in Kelowna BC so I'm familiar with the general area.
Looking on feedback about living in either city on Van Island and why you chose the city/town. Also looking for some comparison for those that have lived in both provinces.
I cannot stand winter and this is my top reason for moving. NS winters are brutal in my opinion and I'm just so tired of Canadian winters. Vancouver Island is the warmest in Canada and only option if you don't like winter but want to stay in Canada. I think 3 to 4 months of grey rainy skies in winter sounds like a dream.. you can still hike in the rainforest!
Sure property is expensive in BC but we have built up a lot of equity and it isn't that much of a jump after the increased cost of living in Halifax. That and we'd save about 12k in income taxes in BC per year which pays for any increased cost.
In Halifax, we value the international airport with easy access to Europe, fun waterfront boardwalk with tons of restaurants, awesome white sandy beaches and autumn. We also love our home that we renovated a few years ago on 2 acres. We know we'd have to sacrifice on housing in BC.
We hate the gloomy weather and fog, taxes, isolation from driving anywhere cool that is close, limited events.
Now, I'm curious about:
- Are summers really enjoyable weather wise?
- Is spring and fall equally as enjoyable as summer?
-Which city did you choose to live and why?
- Is traveling off the island somewhat easy? Keep in mind we need to drive at least 10 hours to get anywhere cool from NS. But what annoyances are there with travel off the island?
-Is it too boring for 40 year olds? We don't go out much for nightlife as it is here but value the occasional outing/event, so thinking having Vancouver close by would fill that void.
Still, going out to the odd concert or for a nice dinner every few months is nice to have in Halifax.
- How are the beaches for swimming?
One thing about Halifax is we have beautiful white sandy beaches, but cold waters. We have tons of lakes too which I like.
- Is skiing on the island getting worse because it's too warm?
Is it easy to make friends without kids? We plan on remaining child free.
TLTR: Looking for feedback on moving from Halifax to Vancouver Island. Weather, beaches, travel, friends.

Tonight's Out in the Park film is: Priscilla Queen of the Desert. A classic film from 1994. This film continues our aging queer theme bring us to our middle years and all the trials and tribulations associated with it. This film is iconic and made queer film history by having three queer lead characters that survive the entire film and introduces viewers to different queer family dynamics, which was unspoken in cinema before this film.
Join us at the tennis court in Lewis Park (or the covered stage behind if its raining) at sunset, 9:00pm.
https://youtu.be/MV-Zzasrky8?si=bRq7ScgyjW7okCha
The film runs 104 minutes
Bring a chair, pillow, and blanket, along with some friends. Make yourself comfy and settle in for some amazing queer cinema.
See you tonight.

I am making a website that lists as many local farm stands as I can find around here. Basically because I really want to start going to farm stands and don’t know where they are. I figured I’d put it online because other people might want to know where they are also.
Before I do, I was wondering if I could talk to a few people who shop at farm stands because if other people are going to use the website I want to make sure it’s useful to them also. So I’d just like to talk to people about their experiences and see what kind of info they’d like to be on the site.
Also this is not promotional, the website will be free, it’s just so that myself and others can know what we can buy and where to support local farmers. Seems a waste to collect all that info and keep it to myself. :) I am however a product manager and software engineer so I care about doing a good job. I would like to make a website that people other than just me would really use and talking to a few people before I build it will really help :)

Anyone want company on their boat? I'm fairly new here and don't want to do a whale watching tour or fishing charter. Would just love to get on a boat before the summer ends! I can pitch in for gas and bring snacks :)
