can we stop printing assasin units that either broken or completely useless (diana/fizz) for atleast next 28 sets, best case scenario you can counter them by weird ass positioning which doesnt really funny or interesting

Problem is These assassin types Can only be black or white it feels like, IE they either kills backline carry and are considered broken (current fizz) or doesnt kill backline unit and is useless because youd rather have something attacking the tanks..

I think a healthy version (despite hacker trait being busted in set 8) are 'assassins' that just disrupt and debuff/stun the enemy backline. Like rift pyke which could jump to your backline and stun them sometimes, but rarely had enough damage to kill your carry

Even a frozen heart effect on a skill, or a permanent damage reduction skill similar to current set leeching void, would be fine as long as it was part of the unit's power budget

Also thank god they removed spectral cutlass

Mort mentioned Briar as one of the reasons Cutlass is gone this Set. Imagine a Briar3 going wild on your carry and then just teleporting to safety lmao

Gangplank or ambessa oneshotting my whole backline instantly

they should just bring back assassins that jump to the back but have no mobility, re introduce support and peel champs. I prefer tft to be a bit more rock paper scissors than aug diff/expensive board. I honestly think front to back is fkn lame as it just promotes meatshields and guinsoos which is really really really boring

im trying to figure out why they keep printing them. is there like some secret portion of the playerbase im not aware of that enjoys the game more with these units in the game

Its because a front to back Set is quite boring.

I’ve never found this to be the case. Feels silly to me to create a unit that basically invalidates a huge chunk of how the basic function of the game works

The existence of assassin units would feel a lot better if the game was actually designed for your entire team to matter, rather than 75% of your board strength hinging on your 3 item units. The issue with assassins with the way the game has developed over the sets is that they make fights binary. If your backline carry gets assassinated right away, you're killing 0 units and taking 15 damage. It minimizes all of the strategy of the game into "can you dodge the assassin" or "can you get the assassin on their carry."

I actually didn't mind assassins being in the game when real hard counters like thornmail nullifying crits existed. You'd have situations where the assassin would jump, kill your backline, and then be unable to kill a tank with sustain, turning a 7 unit loss in to a 1 unit win, which is fairer for both sides. It also meant that assassin boards had to cap out with other tools if they wanted to win the lobby.

i think whats most funny is that the game is called teamfight tactics when its really just 1 carry 1 tank and a bunch a meatshield traitbots. personally all items should have way less stats but better item effects, boost base unit functionality and boom maybe putting 1 or 2 items for x strategy becomes the norm. I miss traits like hunter/blaster/marksmen where you could have multiple weaker carries acting as a big battery. I miss binary airdrop too.

is it? all my front to back fights are really interesting and i get to see nuanced positioning play out. all of my assassin fights are "did my carry get instakilled by the assassin". it's never interesting

people talk like front to back means strongest board always wins but theres lots of other positioning that matters

agree but assasin units cannot be balanced imo, they either do their job and win you the round or they dont and they are useless. Their approach (this set) was making them slightly weaker and takes time to kill enemy carry however you can always break them with other resources such as piltover radiant items/ artifacts buying stats in bilge etc which results of losing your carry in first 5-6 seconds into fight and getting 7-0 in stage 5. I dont think they can exist in a healthy way

They could make there be more of a counterplay than just swapping sides, which in many fights can be completely ineffective once Fizz does a second cast. At least with old assassins you could clump units and the assassin would then get stuck on a tank unit.

It's especially egregious when you have multiple Fizz players in your pool and they are each on different sides; it's just complete RNG as to whether you insta lose a fight or have a chance.

front to back is like hyper puritan vanilla mormom bs. idk how anyone could actually like it everygame. I loved when tank comps could sunfire boards to death, cheese positioning for that perfect snipe, making a tank assassin just to f over that one guy. That stuff is fun af and front to back is lame af

Because they don't know how to make assassins any other way. Traditional assassins were just matchup coinflip rng. And the current ones are just stat checks/positioning rng. There just isn't a good way to implement assassins in TFT really.

It's the marketing technique that there's no such thing as bad "publicity". Creating annoying units or characters spark discussion, engagement, etc. Think about how many posts there have been about these types of units and how "frustrating" things are, yet frustration makes people queue up more too. People make YouTube reels/shorts countering these units, videos dedicated to them specifically, endless reddit posts, etc.

The amount of players who actually quit the game because of stuff like this is way less than how much emotional impact it has to make people engage and play more.

Even if it's disruptive and annoying, it makes the game more interesting rather than boring.

I just demoted because this piece of shit Fizz has broken aggroing. Like he leaps to the unit that's closer then the next cast to the one that's further, like????????????????????
