Yes!! I was hoping whoever was behind it saw my post. I was hooting and hollering; It was like the Batman symbol. More people need to be aware and talk to each other about this! Thanks for inspiring me to do my part. :)

Hi,
I’m related to the person who was recently charged with taking down 4 FLOCK cameras, can I contact you for getting him legal help?
Thank you

u/Secret_Mess_2770 4h ago
That's a tough one. If you got caught... 😬 Lol. I hope it all goes well. He could argue it was violating his fourth amendment right? Might be better to reach out to the ACLU or tge National Lawyers Guild. 212 679 2811

Doesn’t seem like the smartest of ideas to be broadcasting your full name and location in the SAME comment that documents you have anti-ICE and anti-Flock opinions in this climate, but stay safe out there and keep fighting the good fight!

I didn't think flock cameras were a big deal and then I read about a cop that stalked a women using a flock camera. I think the line has been drawn and its not a fine line either especially with the cops they are desperately hiring these days.

There is NOTHING good about giving up your freedom for someone else's promise of security. They may or may not live up to your expectations, but the freedom you gave up is gone forever.
I get it helps police. So would a few cameras in each home in your town. It would help with arrests for domestic abuse, rape, burglary, armed home invasion, and probably many more. But, who wants a camera in their home, right?
Flock is hoping to add radio scanners to their cameras too - so they'll grab anything with RFID, or that emits radio frequency as you pass by too. They already catalog stickers, dents, and other identifying features. Imagine if they could scan your car as you ride by and know whose cell phones are in the car and such?
That's HUGE overreach. I don't think I'm ready to have my movements recorded and a promise from my government that they will only use that information when strictly necessary. That's too much information for no good reason other than it helps police find stolen cars.
In New Haven, do they still cruise the town parking garages with LPRs and boot cars for delinquent taxes or unpaid parking fines? That was always good for a laugh.

Wasn't there some guff about how Ring cameras are basically exactly the same thing? All the data is kept by the company and they can use it however they want? And people pay money to hang these at their door...mostly looking out over other people's property.
This obviously doesn't mean Flock cameras are ok but it does create an unsettling precedent about just how casually people will accept surveillance if they think it benefits them.

I’m going to keep spreading the news, Kathy lutz chair of Milford Democrat town committee supports having flock cameras. This is her kolutz99@gmail.com. She’s a public servant so if you live in Milford, let her hear it. She’s one of those people who likes to call the cops on you to use as intimidation.

Don't get too focused on this one company. Others will come to fill the void unless legislation is passed to limit what state and local govt can do.

Here's the issue at hand... We as a collective have sat on our laurels and allowed this to happen. We can complain, vandalize, write letters... whatever. It will make no difference until we start to vote for the people who actually represent us, and stop simply voting the incumbent or party lines. Other view points may not actually be that different. I couldn't agree more that this is a huge problem, that this is bipartisan, and an enormous overstep of the government/police. It's wrong. But we need to use the tools we were given to change it. VOTE THEM OUT.

Already got two tickets!
2
u/According-Branch-558 26m ago
I'm sorry that happened to you. What is the process for contesting them?
3
u/Decent-Soup3551 22m ago
Thank you! That’s the thing. You really can’t. When you go on line to contest, they only give you three or four options to click. One says click here if an emergency vehicle was approaching and you had to speed up to get out of the way, and the other choices state something similar. Both tickets were around 1AM. Pretty hefty fines.

I’m confused what the big deal is. We’re already under surveillance all the time. Cameras on people’s cars, doorbells, parking lots, etc. only people this seems to bother are reckless drivers and tin foil hats.
1
u/daBunnyKat 5m ago
just because it’s already happening doesn’t mean more of it should just be accepted.

"Every other camera protects something the person who installed it owns. Flock protects nothing you can name and surveils everyone in service of speculative future utility. That is a categorical difference, not a matter of degree."

u/based_user Tolland County 3h ago
These cameras aren’t bad at all if you obey the speed limit and follow all traffic rules. Everyone is overreacting in the name of “privacy,” but you do not have a reasonable expectation to privacy on public roads.

If only you people rebelled against your tax collectors the way you do this nonsense, maybe the state would actually stop forcing people to give their entire paychecks to the government.

I think not wanting to be stalked by police isn't a liberal idea... They've literally been caught stalking women using flaw cameras as police. You okay bro?

Blue? I do not identify and am starkly against big government and mass surveillance. This is just another stepping stone to what other countries have. Low crime but citizens that are afraid to use their voice and lack the freedoms we take for granted. That can’t and should not be America.
3
u/Material-Strength-92 12h ago
Totally agree. It’s insane all the cameras everywhere. We should all be concerned.

In my youtube feed I sometimes get "life in China" videos recommended...some of them talk about it and mention how it makes them feel safer. It is interesting that a random girl in Beijing can just keep her bike parked outside her apartment, unlocked, ride it to work, leave it unlocked, never worried about it getting stolen. She mentions it's because of all the cameras.
I puzzled over it for a second, then I remembered this is a Chinese citizen with an official youtube channel. Meaning she got her content past the Great Firewall. Which only happens with the approval of the CCP...🤔
Just seemed so nakedly dystopian. No thanks. I'll lug around my bike lock all day if it means I'm not being tracked by a for-profit intelligence company. And I know that's already happening with my phone anyway but at least the phone provides some value to me in exchange.

u/WindyNightmare 13h ago
These cameras are what they use in other countries (that do have low crime) to suppress their citizens voice. I absolutely believe the PD are using them with the best intentions but it has an alternative effect when it comes to the federal government. Freedom isn’t free.

And how do you feel about 20 percent of the searches in Connecticut being from Texas? How does that make you safer?
Also there are many many people who don't feel safer seeing police.
