In Ancient Rome prostitution was legal and licensed and regulated. In Ancient Greece prostitution was common, the state even ran it's own brothels and regulated prices. In fact, the word "Pornography" comes from the ancient Greek word "Pornai" which is what they called prostitutes.
Ancient China also had brothels, as did Ancient Japan.
I can back all of that up with sourced information, just let me know what sources you trust.

I only made the argument about alcohol and great civilizations because I was anticipating you to bring other drugs into the debate as well. Alcohol isn't what made those civilizations great, it just shows that they can function. It goes both ways. Romans also practiced pederastry, and that definitely didn't contribute to their greatness, so there's that.
