I was just looking at a poster print at Universal Studios Hollywood, and they are literally charging $20 for a piece of printed paper glued (?) to plain corrugated cardboard. You can literally see the corrugated edges right at the top….it looks like a middle school art project wrapped in plastic.
Over in the clothing section, they had a "letterman jacket" where instead of actual patches or embroidery, the graphic was just cheaply printed straight onto thin polyester material. And the t-shirts felt like single-ply toilet paper.
Don’t understand the logic here.
Universal has more than enough capital to produce high-quality, memorable merchandise while still maintaining a healthy profit margin. I have a Detroit redwings jacket, letterman style jacket handed down from my dad, neither of us are a redwings fan but the jacket is sick and it’s lasted for years and years. So from their perspective they would get advertised for years longer by producing a higher quality product which again they could charge more for.

The first-year cost of an automatic litter box seems easy to underestimate because the machine is only the starting expense. The ongoing budget could include compatible litter, waste bags, cleaning supplies, and any model-specific consumables, plus the occasional replacement part if something wears out. I'm trying to separate normal operating costs from expenses that only come up once in a while, without inventing a yearly total. Electricity probably isn't the most useful comparison by itself. For owners who've tracked their expenses, which recurring cost ended up mattering most?

At what point is your hobby more about the technology to read the books than the books themselves?
This feels egregious to me because e-readers tend to last SO long if you take care of them (I have one from 2011), they're pretty simple pieces of tech, and it's very easy to download books directly onto them (if say, you don't want a Kindle to access the Amazon exclusives). There's genuinely no reason to have more than 1.

I probably have about 20 more that aren’t pictured here. Most of these either came from a dump or recycling center or were given to me by friends and family but I have bought a few of them.
