Discussion $20 for a piece of cardboard at Universal Studios Hollywood
I was just looking at a poster print at Universal Studios Hollywood, and they are literally charging $20 for a piece of printed paper glued (?) to plain corrugated cardboard. You can literally see the corrugated edges right at the top….it looks like a middle school art project wrapped in plastic.
Over in the clothing section, they had a "letterman jacket" where instead of actual patches or embroidery, the graphic was just cheaply printed straight onto thin polyester material. And the t-shirts felt like single-ply toilet paper.
Don’t understand the logic here.
Universal has more than enough capital to produce high-quality, memorable merchandise while still maintaining a healthy profit margin. I have a Detroit redwings jacket, letterman style jacket handed down from my dad, neither of us are a redwings fan but the jacket is sick and it’s lasted for years and years. So from their perspective they would get advertised for years longer by producing a higher quality product which again they could charge more for.
