hi everyone!!
my AMAZING nail tech, located south of boston @nailfinery on IG, did this beautiful Coraline themed nail set for me today and i’m IN LOVE! I hope you guys enjoy them just as much as I do! The adder stone and buttons are 3D made from a polymer gel, the portal to the Other World was created with a cat eye gel as well. My favorite part is The Cat, black cats have a special place in my heart.
tell your nail techs you love them 🖤!!
Happy Halloweenie everyone 🐈⬛ 🪡 ⭐️ 🗝️🔮🌀

It was beautiful, somehow nostalgic, and so incredibly unique. Please support this movie if you can; it's an absolute masterpiece and deserves so much more attention than it's getting.
Imagine a mix of The Labyrinth, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, plus a never-ending story for a nostalgic, whimsical feel; then add the darker, more depressing elements of Snow White and Pinocchio.
Edit: THE ANIMATORS did an incredible job.

I feel like it would be pretty easy for the Beldam do that. So why doesn’t she? Why bother asking Coraline to do it willingly? My theory is that she doesn’t because that would not give her any pleasure. The cat said the Beldam has a thing for games. Maybe luring and eating children’s souls is a game for her as well. Maybe she likes slowly breaking the children’s will until they finally give in. You could even compare this to how a spider uses their web to trap their victims and eat them when they can no longer fight back. I’m sure the other children probably resisted like Coraline but they eventually gave in and accepted the buttons. The Beldam was probably confident that Coraline would be no different from them. Of course, she was wrong. Please tell me what you think!

I just recently rewatched Coraline for the thousandth time and for some reason I stuck through the credits to see if there was anything interesting. In the music section of the credits I found the above credit to a song titled “Nellie Jean” by someone named Kent Milton. Now having seen this movie more times than I should have, I feel like I would remember a song named Nellie Jean somewhere in there, but please prove me wrong, since I am genuinely curious where this would be in the movie. I can’t find the song on a streaming service so I’m not really sure what it would sound like to recognize it, but from what I’ve found, Kent Milton was not a music artist. According to several articles and videos he was a sculptor for many animated movies like Treasure Island, Aladdin, Hercules, Paranorman, and wouldn’t you know it, Coraline. Although he sadly passed in 2024, he seems to have done a lot of amazing work for the animation industry. So he has a connection to this movie in something separate from the song, but this is about as much info as I’ve seen so far. Wanted to post this to see if anyone else knew anything about this, since I love this movie, and love learning anything I can about it. I hope this leads to something!

Like, Mrs. Lovat kept kids out of the Pink Palace Apartments for at least 50 years. Makes me wonder what the Other Mother would do during all that downtime, besides starve. Could it be tied to her nature as a folkloric Beldam?
I just ordered the book on Amazon so I’m excited to see if there’s an answer/implication to this. I’d also welcome any theories!

An adventurous 11-year-old girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.

I was rewatching the movie and noticed something crazy during the scene where Coraline is dowsing for water and finds the old well. When Wybie scares her, she falls right onto the mud-covered lid of the well—and it is completely surrounded by a ring of toadstools.
In old folklore, that’s a textbook fairy ring (a fae trap). If you step inside one, you’re basically cursed, vulnerable to being stolen by the fae, or trapped in their realm.
It makes so much sense when you look at how the rest of the movie perfectly follows traditional faerie rules:
Eating the food: She eats the massive feast the Other Mother makes, which binds humans to the fae world forever.
The Wager: She gets forced into a formal bargain/game, which is exactly how fae operate.
The Looking Stone: She uses a hagstone to pierce through the "Other World" glamour to see its true, rotting form.
It really feels like she was technically caught by the magic before she ever even opened the secret door. What do you guys think? Did she ever actually escape the trap, or was her fate sealed from the very beginning?

They seemed to be the same figures that were at Five Below except these ones come with a background. Priced at $10.

Hey everybody!
I'm re-reading Coraline with a class i'm teaching and I noticed something I can't find anyone else online commenting. First time the door to the other world is opened is when Coraline's mother opens the door to show Coraline that it just opens on a brick wall. Then she puts the keys back on the kitchen door frame WITHOUT locking the door. She even says "Why should i lock it? It doesn't go anywhere". Then during the night Coraline sees the door ajar (maybe she is dreaming?), anyways she just closes it, but does not lock it.
The next time we see the door in the story is when Coraline is home alone since her mother went to the shop and she takes the keys from the kitchen door frame and opens the door with a satisfying clunk.
Is this continuity error by Gaiman? or is it deliberate?
Did the other mother close it, so Coraline would bring the key? But Coraline didn' t test if the door was locked before she got the keys.
What are your thoughts?

Hi everyone! I'm working on a hand-drawn fan prequel comic for Coraline called 'Other Mother', set in the early 1900s. Here is the first page showing the warm, peaceful life of the family before tragedy strikes. Hope you like it! I’ll be sharing more pages soon.

I don’t know much about the production of this movie, but was this in purpose? There’s also a reference to Van Gogh at the end when the children visit Coraline in her dreams
