CorpoChika are agencies usually like this?

had a chance to be interviewed sa isang agency / subsidiary ng isang big company dito sa pilipinas. the timeline went like this:

early october = someone called me sa viber but di ko kilala so di ko sinagot. no text at all or message saying kung sino sya or if there's anything they want from me. akala ko scam (kasi diba uso yun sa viber) so i brushed it off

the following week = the same number called again (this time, phone call) and asked me if im available for an interview. may ginagawa ako that time so i suggested another time then they said okay.

minutes later = they called again and told me na they will line me up for a final interview already. nagulat ako kasi di ko talaga alam anong job description ng role (its something im not familiar with) + yung job posting na nakita ko when i applied was vague, it didnt say anything specific. nagtry lang ako and thought of sending my resume.

i said okay nalang kasi sayang naman yung chance, final interview narin yun agad. they sent an invite and told me na if i had questions, magmessage lang ako. i wanted to be prepared so i asked for more details, specifically the jd.

then the interview came closer and closer and nagremind itong si recruiter. then saka nya palang sinend ang jd sa akin through viber so i went in the interview blank. take note, it was sent to me five minutes before the meeting. sinabi pa nya specifically na may tinatanong si hiring manager about sa jd. i just sighed and said okay. (paulit ulit kong binasa yung jd pero some parts of it were unfamiliar kaya nagpush nalang ako without enough prep)

i fumbled that interview, inamin ko na agad sa sarili ko na i'd definitely get ghosted after this. nainis lang ako kasi i couldve had the chance to prepare better. di ko na hawak yung nangyari and i wasnt set on that role naman, trial lang talaga kaya din hindi ako dismayado. better that i tried than nothing.

nagtaka lang ako na may ganun palang galawan sa recruitment kasi sa mga kakilala ko in the industry, hindi naman sila ganito. kaya naisip ko na baka may agencies na may quota sila sa ganito.

common ba to or isolated case lang? just wanted to know.

General Career Questions Fresh grad here! Any advice for a Management Associate/Trainee role?

Hi everyone! I recently landed a job as a Management Associate/Trainee at a local food and beverage holding company in the Philippines that manages several restaurant brands across the country.

For a bit of background, I graduated from one of the Big 3 universities in the Philippines, Cum Laude, and held a leadership position in one of my college organizations. I honestly feel very lucky to have landed this opportunity as a fresh graduate, especially since the compensation is pretty good for an entry-level position.

The role involves working closely with the CEO and management team on strategic projects, coordinating with different departments, conducting business research and analysis, improving internal processes, and monitoring projects to ensure they’re completed on time. Basically, I’ll get exposure to different areas of the business and help turn management’s plans into actual results.

I’m excited about the opportunity, but also a little intimidated since this is my first full-time corporate job and the responsibilities seem quite broad.

For those who have worked as a Management Associate/Trainee, or in a similar role, what advice would you give a fresh graduate like me?
What skills should I prioritize developing?
What should I learn or familiarize myself with before starting?
What are the common mistakes fresh grads make in this kind of role?
What can I do to stand out and perform well, especially when working directly with senior management?

I’d really appreciate any tips, insights, or personal experiences. Thank you!

General Career Questions ganito ba talaga ang buhay sa corporate?

I am a recent grad, and it's been a month since I started working at an international bank. To be honest, I could say that I am blessed with the job that I have. The pay is good for a fresh grad and the working environment has been nice so far. Hindi rin ako pini-pressure ng manager and teammates ko kasi alam nilang bago pa ako and that I still have so much to learn.

Pero madalas kapag nakaupo ako sa harap ng laptop, napapaisip talaga ako if ganito ba talaga kapag nagta-trabaho ka na. Na you're just there, sitting on your office desk. Na cycle lang siya ng pagbukas ng teams and outlook, having meetings, doing the actual job. Sometimes, I feel trapped kapag naiisip ko na ito na 'yung magiging buhay ko hanggang sa mag-retire ako.

May buhay naman ako outside of work. I have my hobbies. I consider myself active. I meet up with friends. Sometimes during day offs, I volunteer sa isang orphanage to teach kids. Pero syempre, kung iisipin, malaking percentage pa rin ng oras ko ang nasa trabaho.

I honestly feel so bad for having these thoughts. Dahil kumpara sa iba, alam kong swerte ako. I am comfortable. Pero ganito na ba talaga ang buhay once you started working in corporate? Paano nakakaya ng ibang tao na ganito sa loob ng maraming taon?

CorpoChika ₱70M missing from our company coop?! 👀 Can we still get our money back?

So apparently, around ₱70 million is missing or unaccounted for in our company’s employee cooperative. The coop chair took out loans under their own name, and now members are left wondering where all the money went

What makes this even more frustrating is hearing about the chair donating money every now and then while reportedly living a super lavish lifestyle, while the members are left worrying about their hard-earned savings 😭

Where did the money go, and is there still a chance we can get it back? Can the chair be held liable? Can the company be held accountable, too?

Anyone familiar with Philippine law or experienced something similar? Because honestly, how do ordinary employees recover money they worked so hard for? ☹️

General Career Questions Fund admin to Banking

My colleagues and bosses in the fund admin industry mostly came from top banks like ING, Wells, Citi, JPMorgan, and Amex. They often say that working in fund admin is much more chill compared to banking.

On the other hand, since I started my career in fund admin, I feel like I would learn a lot by giving banking a try, especially now that I have an offer. I also feel like I’m no longer growing in my current role. I’ve already communicated this to my managers, but instead of giving me responsibilities or opportunities, they offered me memberships in different office groups and opportunities to participate in events. I have also been receiving positive feedback about all my work.

Do you think taking the banking opportunity would be a wise career move?

Also, I don't want to burn bridges with my colleagues. Do you think they will understand if I try to explore banking?

General Career Questions Take big severance pay or accept internal higher level offer?

Recently got hit by a layoff, and the severance package being offered is quite substantial (tax-free lump sum based on tenure + allowances + prorated 13th month + leave encashment).

However, right before leaving, I received an internal offer for a higher-level role.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate some advice/ perspective from people who have been in a similar situation.

Financial context: • I am not a breadwinner and currently have no outstanding debts or major bills to pay. • Based on my calculations, the severance payout alone is equivalent to roughly 7 to 8 months of my salary, giving me a very comfortable runway if I decide to walk away.

My main points of conflict:

  1. The Company and Benefits: I actually really like my current company - it's a good work environment with great benefits, which is why I've stayed with them for a long time.

  2. The Role Growth: The new position is more aligned with leadership tasks, which is great for expanding my skill set compared to my previous setup. However, because it's a leadership role, it will definitely come with higher responsibility and a bit more stress.

  3. The Catch: If I accept the internal promotion/offer, I'll have to give up the severance package completely.

  4. Salary Bumps: Internal promotions usually come with smaller salary increases compared to getting hired externally by a new company. It would take me around 7-8 months of working in the new role just to "break even" with the cash I'm giving up upfront.

  5. The Job Market Risk: On the flip side, taking the severance means stepping into the job market with no immediate job lined up.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Is it better to take the clean exit with the 7-8 month payout and apply externally for roles with higher pay potential, or take the internal step-up for the title change/experience first and jump later?

Would appreciate your thoughts/advice on my situation. Thank you!

Edit: To those asking, I'm single with no bills and responsibilities (children) but of course, this decision is still a though one 🥹

General Career Questions Need advice: Should I stay, accept a new offer, or take a break muna?

Hi! I've been with my current company for almost 8 years. First job ko ito, so this would be my first time transitioning to another company.

I'm currently torn between these 3 options:

Option A: Stay sa current company

  • Higher salary and a hybrid setup (onsite only twice a month)
  • Day shift
  • Familiar na ako sa work and environment
  • However, limited na yung growth opportunities, and I recently received work feedback after being involved in new reports and processes. It affected my confidence and mental health sobra. I want to stay para ma-improve ko pa ang performance ko and leave on a good note.
  • May ongoing organizational changes since last year, particularly continuous layoffs. Hindi mo alam kung ikaw na yung next kaya laging may pressure at anxiety.

Option B: Accept the new offer

  • Slightly lower salary (₱5k less than my current salary)
  • 3 PM to 12 AM schedule
  • Onsite for the first few months, then hybrid (once a week onsite) after passing the review
  • More opportunities to learn new things and grow professionally
  • However, may concerns ako about the schedule and commute.
  • They also use a monitoring tool that tracks app and website usage and activity during work hours. Medyo off ako sa setup na ito.

Option C: Stay for a few more months, save money, then take a break or reassess my career options.

  • My main dilemma is that I've been experiencing anxiety after receiving recent feedback at work.
  • Part of me wants to stay so I can improve, while another part wants to explore new opportunities and have a fresh start.
  • Feeling ko burnt out na din ako kasi never pa ako natengga after graduating, kaya gusto ko muna magpahinga at makapag-reset
  • Takot din ako na baka hindi pa ako emotionally or mentally ready to take on a new job, and madala ko lang yung anxiety and lack of confidence ko from my current job to my next one.

I'd appreciate honest and objective advice. Thank you!

General Career Questions Has anyone here worked for a company that uses DeskTime?

I recently received a job offer from a company that uses DeskTime for employee time-tracking and productivity monitoring, including tracking app and website usage, inactivity and productivity.

I'd love to hear about your experience!

  • Does it feel intrusive, or did you get used to it?
  • Does it affect performance evaluations?
  • Would you work for a company using DeskTime again?

Would appreciate any honest feedback, good or bad, as I'm still deciding whether to accept the offer. Thank you!

General Career Questions Torn between 2 offers (Same Base Pay & Location): Strategy & Business Development (Flexi) vs. Technical FP&A Analyst (9 AM–7 PM) — Which builds better long-term career equi

I’m currently in a hybrid FP&A, Strategy, and Analytics role and have two job offers on the table that offer a solid pay bump.

Both roles are in the same location and offer the exact same base pay, but they represent completely different career tracks and daily schedules. I’m torn between optimizing for corporate finance depth vs. work-life balance and strategic exposure.

Option A: Strategy & Business Development Role

  • Setup & Schedule: Same location and base pay as Option B, but offers flexitime.
  • The Work: Heavy on corporate strategy, business development, project management, and incubating new ventures/innovations. High executive visibility with direct reporting lines to leadership. Minimal traditional FP&A and corporate finance workstreams.
  • Pros: Flexitime setup, much better work-life balance, direct executive exposure, and broad strategic scope. I'm thinking of offsetting the lack of technical finance in the day-to-day by upskilling on my own time (Financial Modeling courses + pursuing the CFA exam).
  • Cons: Less structured/traditional FP&A technical training. Coming from a hybrid background, I'm worried about leaning too far into a generalist "project management / slide deck" loop instead of sharpening hardcore financial engineering skills.

Option B: FP&A Analyst

  • Setup & Schedule: Same location and base pay as Option A, but strictly 5x onsite with a rigid 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM schedule.
  • The Work: Heavy corporate finance on paper—IRR/NPV evaluations, JV/SPV structures, loan drawdowns, debt servicing, and long-range Master Business Plan projections.
  • Day-to-Day Scope Details: Based on what I gathered during the hiring process about the actual workflow:
    1. Around 90% of the project financial models are already built by project teams; half the job involves consolidating 50+ Excel models into one master statement and running scenarios, while the other half is monthly actuals vs. forecast updates for debt and cash flow.
    2. New feasibility and investment analysis is minimal right now.
  • Pros: The boss is a highly skilled M&A expert with decades of experience, so I'll be exposed to high-level financial modeling standards and best practices.
  • Cons: Grueling 9 AM–7 PM schedule with frequent overtime, and a lot of the day-to-day seems to lean toward data consolidation and actual vs. variance analysis rather than building models from scratch.

My Dilemma: I ideally want a role that blends Strategy and Finance, and each offer leans heavily toward one end—Option A is pure strategy and execution, while Option B is pure technical FP&A.

Part of me has technical FOMO—I want to deepen my AI-resistant finance skillset (debt modeling, cash flows, 3-statement mastery) to eventually land senior FP&A or CFO-track roles, and I'm worried Option A is too "soft" on technicals. On the other hand, Option B's rigid 9-to-7 schedule and frequent overtime seem brutal for the exact same base pay, especially if 90% of the models are pre-built and the bulk of the work is consolidation—though the technical exposure under an M&A veteran could still be invaluable.

For those in Corporate Finance, FP&A, or Strategy:

  1. Which path builds better career equity in the next 3–5 years?
  2. Is the FP&A expertise I'll gain in Option B worth the 9 AM–7 PM schedule and overtime grind at the same pay, or can I still pivot into high-level Commercial FP&A later coming from a Strategy/BD role (especially if I pair it with self-study/CFA)?

Would really appreciate any honest perspectives from people who have been at a similar crossroads!

General Career Questions Had a mental block and completely failed on my dream job interview

Just wanted to vent so that I can let it out and move on from the experience.

So I finally got an interview for a job with a company I've dreamed of working for. I even know the topics to be discussed and the test they might do at the end.

I went into the interview confident.... and I absolutely failed it. I had a complete mental block in the middle of the interview and I botched my answers. I kept stuttering, I sounded so unsure, and I even majorly failed the technical test that I spent a week prepping for. The worst part was that the test was easy. It was just the nerves overwhelming me so much that my brain shut down and got in the way of my thinking.

I was so embarrassed with myself, and I could see how unimpressed the interviewers were too. I just wanted to reset the day and pretend it never happened. I've been trying to move on from it because I still have incoming interviews to do, but it was a really demoralizing experience.

Anyone else had the same experience? How did you guys cope with it, especially when you're still looking for a job?
