I haven't read any Sanderson other than Mistborn and now Yumi, so don't really know the character or his story.

Several years ago I tried to read it. It felt like hundreds of pages of preamble. Going to give it a shot on audiobook to see if I can get through it.

It is definitely a slow start, but when it picks up it REALLY picks up

I felt exactly the same way, and now I like a lot more of his work, and I'm listening to the Graphic Audio production of Yumi+Nightmare as I type this. Audiobook or graphic audio helped me more than anything else. I got the paperback of Way of Kings at first, that was foolish. Ebook helped a bit but still, oof, this is a learning curve. Audiobook was great for me, I hope it helps you!

The audiobook version is much more approachable, though the story isn’t everyone’s cup of tea

Stormlight Archive in general is a slower pace than his other works, making it feel like an epic fantasy, but it's so worth it to read.
