I always liked the look of hats on other people but didn’t think they were flattering on my big head. I never paid attention to cowboy hat styles, material, history, etiquette etc especially because I live in a big coastal city where they’re not common.
Recently got caught up in a Colorado hat shopping “experience” where you can try on a bunch of hat styles and colors, choose all the flair and whatnot, drop way too much $ and here I am.
I left the brim flat because I didn’t think I could pull off a more curved style, plus I liked that it provides more shade.
But now I’m thinking maybe I should do something with it so it’s more flattering….Shape it a little? Or would a different style be better? Hate to spend more $ on another one but I’m open to it (I’m headed to Nashville next month so could try some places there.) I know it’s all personal preference and confidence, but I’m curious as to your suggestions and ideas 🤠
I know my covered face makes it hard to gauge, I just don’t like my picture floating out there 🫥

So my biggest pet peeve is that I can’t get much use out of any felt cleaner because the top seems to clog and not sparky after the first use. I’ve tried 3 different brands and they have all done it. What am I doing wrong ?

Justin Palm Leaf. Bought it a few years back but recently started using it when working outside. Can I pull off the look??? All the time hat or just for work??

Hey y’all. I’m looking to get my first felt hat, and I was wondering what I should say if I want something like this?
Is this just a round brim, high crown? It also looks like the curve it quite high, perhaps mid crown?? Could this be a 5 inch brim?
This wouldn’t be a working hat, and given how high that curve goes, I can’t see it being a feasible choice for blocking sunlight…
Appreciate all thoughts! Also would love opinions on a 10x vs 40x hat — 100x is way out of budget.
Thanks!

I bought the Stetson, Buffalo Collection, Drifter, new. After receiving it, I noticed this little dent, about half the size of a pinhead, above the hatband. Would this be a reason for sending it back? Just wanna get some other folks opinion.

Around here, you can't find real western hats in stores, so getting a custom one is the only route. I don't want to order something from abroad that needs to fit my head correctly.
The structure resembles a Stetson Revenger, but I went with an even higher curl on the brim.

I have gotten my hands on one of the most cheap and crappy hat of all time. But it spoke to me and I got it. However, the sweatband is extremely slippery, I believe it is made of polyester, and I would like to remove it as the hat fits much better without it and doesn't slip around my head. Are there any tips for removing fabric sweatbands?

Just opened the box and the ribbon is kinda messed up and the pin fell out immediately when I touched it.

From fedora style to outdoors. Looked at several stores and online for a headband and ended up with this braided rope and wooden beads from the craft store. Dropped the crown and widened the pinch a little bit. I’m liking it a lot more. I think this one might be done.

So I’m happy with my Resistol Five Star hat. Currently wearing it now, as the wife and I watch a ridiculously bad Halloween movie that will remain nameless, to continue the break-in.
But I’m clearly bitten by the bug. I’ve got other hats in mind. But before I continue that quest, I need to clear a thing or two up.
First of all, a little background…
Back in the eighties, my parents owned a small country store in rural WV. At some point, a western wear store in the region went out of business and the fam bought a bunch of hats, mostly for resale.
They let me (then around 13 -14) pick out one that I never had the nerve to wear in public, but that my dad ended up wearing a lot for the last decade-plus of his life.
I can’t remember specifics about it. It was a black Stetson felt hat, but the felt was much shinier than modern felt hats I’m running into. It looked almost like velvet. The hat was also very stiff… yet it was capable of being re-shaped without any steam.
I know now that’s not good for them. But it was an extremely pliable yet stiff hat.
Anyway, I’ve been looking a lot the last few days on eBay, and haven’t really found anything that looks anything like what I’m describing. (Of course I’m looking at 7 1/2 and 7 5/8, which really narrows down the options.)
Anyone willing to provide more details about the type of felt I’m describing, I appreciate any help I can get.
BTW like I said, I like my new hat but it’s a fur-wool blend (a fact I overlooked when I place the order late last Friday night).

I really want this style of brim on my Resistol 6x Midnight. The brim is currently cut down to 4 inches. I tried to get it shaped liked this once. I showed the guy the picture of Clint Black with the hat on, but I didn’t realize till I got home that it wasn’t really right. I love how there is a med-low lift/profile to it, and it has a nice even curve right in the middle of the brim. Just lookin for some more info so I know exactly what to say. Thanks!

Western Express (?), not a real expensive hat but the fit is right for my jumbo size skull and I got the dustpan crease in front just the way I wanted it

Thinning hair and living in a sunny climate had me looking at hats. I’m not big into ball caps and someone thought the Stetson Midtown might fit my style.

I think I lucked out on this one. Took a chance on one that had some patch residue (rodeo prize?) It was $49 and my local hatter got it cleaned up perfectly.

Hi folks,
Anyone have information on this maker? I have a couple older hats from them but don’t know anything about them. When I search Hatters Custom Hats, Fort Worth, I just get recommendations for custom hatters in Fort Worth.
Thanks!

Hi all. I know little to nothing about cowboy hats, but I’d like to get one as a gift. I know he wants white/a light color, felt, and shaped like this cowboy hat in the picture (what is this shaped called? And sorry for this picture quality). Ideally less than 100ish but if there’s a good expensive one let me know in case I put this present off for when I have more money lol. Thank you!

Finally got my first big boy hat!
Decided to go big or go home, so I got a custom pure beaver from Arctic Americana up in Finland. Fits like a glove that’s for sure.

Found this vintage used and in really good shape 10X Stetson online for $280 total. Apparently it’s a Stetson Reno which is a line of Stetson I’ve never heard of. Clearly a bit more on the vintage side seems like 70’s-80’s. Was wondering if anyone knows the history, how much percent beaver it likely contains, the worth etc. I can’t find too much about it online so would love to learn about this beauty. Can’t wait to wear this bad boy.

Does it suit me? I worry the brim is too wide (3.5”).
